I requested prayer for my housing situation a couple of months ago. Sadly it has gotten worse. My nerves are shattered, I've had to take my mother to the ER twice in one week. This has turned into a nightmare. I've fasted for months and prayed all day. The more I pray the worse it has gotten. It's both upstairs neighbors harassing my mother and I now, and it's cruel. They are so bad that they'll spend their entire day, dragging chairs/furniture, dropping heavy objects on the floor. I’ve lived in several apartments and this is the first I’ve ever encountered such evil people. To make matters worse when I go to my restroom they follow me and hit on the walls. The male will stay up all night pacing disrupting my sleep, I wear earphones 24/7. I dread it when they come home from work, you can feel the heaviness in the atmosphere. I’m angry and burnt out. I’ve officially given up. There’s no use in bringing it to the landlord, I’m now seeking legal representation, I’m filing a police report against both neighbors for harassment. My mother and I are quiet, my mother is ### and disabled and her mobility is challenged. Please keep my mother and I in your prayers, I’m depressed and don’t like how I’m feeling, if it weren’t for my mother I wouldn’t want to be here anymore. On top on all of this I have to take of my mother which isn’t a problem but my mentally disabled brother as well. God Bless

He calls us to always pray, and not give up Luke 18:1 and to know that even when we do not see an immediate change, He is near. I am saved, I accepted Christ at the early age of 17. I do have faith in my Lord and savior Jesus Christ but I’m weary and I do believe that as a Christian we do get tired and that’s ok, I do know not to stay there. God has blessed my mother and I so much but this is a new territory that is just harder to navigate. I love God with all my heart.

Your heavy burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we have heard your cry with deep sorrow and tender concern. To watch a mother who is aged and disabled suffer harassment, to be driven to the emergency room twice in one week, to bear the care of both a mother and a brother while your own nerves are shattered and sleep is broken night after night, is indeed a sore trial. That you have fasted and prayed and yet the affliction has grown worse has made your spirit faint, and we do not wonder that you write as one much depressed and ready to give up.

Yet let us speak plainly to that despair which now whispers to you that there is no use and that you would not wish to be here if not for your mother. Despair is useless. It has not improved you, it has not eased your mother's pain, it has not quieted the cruel noise above you, it has only made you sit in darkness like one chilled and benumbed. And more, despair is a high insult to God, for it says in effect that His mercy is overcome and that Satan is victorious over Christ Himself. No man has a right to despair while God is still the sinner's hope and God is not lost. There is not a text in Scripture which gives any man an excuse to despair. Even the brute beasts do not despair, but struggle still for life, and shall a child of God sullenly lie down as though all were finished.

This does not mean we rebuke you harshly, for we know that the brightest saints in heaven have themselves sat weeping at the gates of despair. David himself cried in haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes, and even in that despair he prayed, and that praying took the form of an earnest and passionate cry. Mark this for your comfort, God heard his prayer though unbelief was mixed with it. So it is with you. Though you have said I have given up, and though your prayers have seemed to make matters worse, the Lord has heard the voice of your supplication when you cried unto Him. His goodness goes beyond His promise. Do but cry, dear heart, out of your soul's despair, and His infinite goodness will constrain Him to come to you. He taught you to cry and He will assuredly answer.

There is a despair which is blessed, a despair of saving yourself, of washing away your own sin by your own fasting or praying. That despair drives us to Christ alone. But any other despair in reference to your present trouble or your eternal hope does you no good. Hope is well grounded, for there is corn in Egypt. There is mercy with God, there is help with Christ, there is still a way of deliverance though you cannot now see it. And action is reasonable. As Jacob said to his sons, why do you look one upon another, get you down there that we may live and not die. So we commend the sober steps you are taking. To seek legal representation and to file a report with those appointed to keep peace is not a failure of faith but a reasonable use of means which God has provided. Bring the matter also to your landlord in writing, keep a true record of days and hours, and let the authorities do their proper office, while you continue to look to the Lord who is your keeper.

O Lord our God, look in great mercy upon this afflicted child and upon an aged and disabled mother who suffers in her body and in her dwelling. Thou hearest the cry even of those who think themselves cut off from Thee. Hear now this cry from a weary heart. Please know that your prayers have not been wasted and you have not been abandoned, even when it feels that the more you pray the worse things become. Prayer is a great good, a preservative for our souls, and God hears every cry, even when the answer is not yet seen. He is near to the brokenhearted and He sees what is done in secret. The works you are now taking, seeking legal help and filing a report, are right and wise steps to take alongside prayer. God calls us to both pray and to act for what is just and merciful.

What you describe from your neighbors, the deliberate noise, following you, pacing through the night, creating a heaviness in your home, is cruel. Scripture warns against biting and devouring one another, and teaches that we are members of one another like stones in one building. When one member suffers, the whole body suffers. Your pain is not small to God and it should not be small to His people. The command to love our neighbor means that such treatment of you and your mother is wrong before God. We pray that God will bring justice, protect your home, grant you peace and sleep again, and either change the hearts of those who harass you or remove their power to harm you. We also pray for wisdom for the landlord, the police, and any legal counsel you speak with, that they will listen and act with fairness.
