Please Pray for My Insomnia

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Recently, because of so many ongoing concerns, I have been struggling with severe insomnia. I often lie awake for hours, unable to fall asleep. Even after taking a strong sleeping medication, I still find it very difficult to sleep, and it has begun to affect my work. Please pray that God will grant me peaceful and restful sleep, and that the many issues weighing on my heart will be resolved one by one in His perfect timing.

We hear your cry for rest, and our hearts join with yours as we bring this burden before the Lord. The weight of sleepless nights and the exhaustion they bring can feel overwhelming, but we know that our God neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and He is attentive to your need. The Scriptures remind us in Psalm 4:8, "In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety." Let us hold fast to this promise together.

First, we must address the concerns weighing on your heart. Anxiety and worry can steal our peace and disrupt the rest God intends for us. Jesus Himself tells us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." We encourage you to cast every care upon Him (1 Peter 5:7), trusting that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Sleeplessness often stems from a heart that is carrying more than God ever intended. Let us pray that He lifts this burden and replaces it with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We also want to gently encourage you to examine the use of strong sleeping medication. While we understand the desperation for relief, we must be cautious not to rely on earthly solutions more than we rely on God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." If these medications are not bringing the rest you need, it may be time to seek wisdom from godly counsel, whether through prayer, trusted believers, or medical professionals who honor God, to find a path that aligns with His will for your health.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is struggling with sleeplessness and the heavy burdens of the heart. Lord, You are the God who gives sleep to those You love (Psalm 127:2), and we ask that You would pour out Your peace upon them now. Calm their mind, still their thoughts, and quiet their spirit so that they may rest in You. Father, we ask that You would resolve each concern weighing on their heart in Your perfect timing. Help them to release their anxieties to You, knowing that You care for them deeply.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom in how to address this physical struggle. If there are habits, dependencies, or patterns that are not honoring You, reveal them and guide them toward Your truth. Strengthen their body to find natural rest, and if medical intervention is needed, lead them to the right help. Above all, draw them closer to You in this season, that they may find their ultimate rest in Your presence.

We rebuke the spirit of anxiety and sleeplessness in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is written in Philippians 4:19, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We declare that this need for rest will be met, not by our own strength, but by Your power and grace. May our brother/sister wake each morning refreshed, renewed, and reminded of Your faithfulness.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on God’s Word as you lie down each night. Speak Scriptures like Psalm 23, Psalm 91, or Matthew 6:25-34 over yourself, and let the truth of His promises replace the lies of fear and worry. Consider keeping a prayer journal to write down your concerns before bed, symbolically handing them over to God. Surround yourself with godly community who can pray with you and hold you accountable in this struggle. Remember, the Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He is working even in the stillness of the night. You are not alone.

We hear you on the sleepless nights. When so many concerns pile up, it’s no wonder rest slips away, even with strong medication. That cycle of lying awake while your mind replays every worry is utterly draining, and we’re sorry you’re having to carry it into your workday.

Since the medication alone isn’t bringing the relief you need and this is affecting your daily life, it might be time to loop your doctor in again. They can look at the bigger picture and help you find a more effective path forward, that’s not a lack of trust in God, it’s simply good care for the body He’s given you.

One small thing that sometimes helps is to keep a simple notepad beside your bed. When the thoughts start churning, write down the specific issues that are weighing on you, just a list, nothing elaborate. Getting them out of your head and onto paper can sometimes loosen their grip enough to let go. Then, before you try to sleep again, picture handing that list over to the Lord. He isn’t overwhelmed by any of it, and you don’t have to solve it all tonight.

We’re asking Him together to quiet the internal noise and give you the deep, peaceful rest you need. May you feel His presence in those still hours, steady and close, and may each concern be untangled in His perfect time.

Jesus, grant our friend the mercy of restorative sleep. Still the racing thoughts, ease the heaviness, and pour out Your peace that goes beyond our understanding. Until every burden is resolved, be their sustaining strength. In Your name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Rest in the LORD. Oh, what sweet precepts these are! Yet it must be confessed they are easier to read than to practice, but if Grace is given, you shall find it blessedly easy to rest where Omnipotence and eternal love are sweetly joined together. Your sleepless hours speak of a mind burdened, and I hear you when you say the many concerns press upon you. But have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty? The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and to be perfectly at peace amid the hurry-burly of invading cares is a blessed condition of soul, and the only way to reach it is this: to do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Come now! By an act of instantaneous faith which will bring instantaneous peace, come and rely upon Jesus, and He will now give you rest. It is a present rest, not after a time of probation, but given when we come to Him, there and then. We who have believed do enter into rest. The salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble. You speak of issues needing resolution, and you wait for God’s perfect timing. Wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself. The meek shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Anybody can see that a man of that kind possesses far more of what is worth having, namely, ease and peace of mind, than the owner of broad acres who has no true rest of heart.

Bear you one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ, yet every man shall bear his own burden. This means you may cast your care upon Him who cares for you, but you are also called to learn of Him. It is the rest of a learner: “Learn of me, and ye shall find rest.” To be sure that what you are doing is what Jesus would have you do is peace! If you are telling yourself about these concerns and your anxiety is confined to yourself, no good will come of that. But if in simple trust you hand them over to your Master, then the promise stands: You will keep him in perfect peace, peace, peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

This peace is a present possession and may be enjoyed in the ordinary circumstances of life, even in the midnight of this world of care. It is rest after rest, the repose of a man who has received a given rest and now discovers the found rest. Oh, what rest it will be to be forever with Him! But this is our rest even now, to be with Him. Trust and you shall rest. The way may be rough, but it cannot be long; let us smooth it with hope and cheer it with song, for the end of that man is peace.

The sleep that comes from nature is a gift of God to our weary race, but you have found that the anxieties of many concerns drive it away, as the wise man says, “The anxieties of wealth drive away sleep.” You have even taken a strong medicine, yet your mind still tosses; this shows the root of your wakefulness lies not in the body but in the soul, weighed down by cares you were never meant to carry alone. The Lord who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps commands you not to suffer your foot to be moved. The suffering, in great measure, depends on yourself. Why lie awake charting the courses of your own deliverance, as if your scheming could add a single hour to your life?

Consider the blessed sleep of Peter in prison, bound with chains and facing death, yet so at peace with the will of God that not even an earthquake disturbed him until the angel struck his side. His rest was the rest of a soul anchored in faith, not the broken, watchful drowsiness of one who cannot let go. Do not be like the rich man who has subjected himself to a tyranny worse than any slavery, for whom nightfall brings no haven but only fresh alarms and the raking up of smouldering anxieties. Instead, labor to enter that rest which remains for the people of God, a rest that begins in the heart when you cast every concern upon Him who knows your need.

The many issues you mention are not hidden from your Father, and in His perfect timing He will resolve them, if you do not harden your heart through unbelief. I will pray with you, but I urge you first to seek the rest of a trusting spirit. Then, when your soul is no longer stifled by the excess of earthly fretfulness, sleep will come lightly upon you as a true solace, your dreams will be free from wild fancies, and you will rise with hands pure for the work of the day, leaving all outcomes in the hand of the One who never slumbers.
