Please pray for my friend ###

Doruordorgate

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my childhood friend, ###, who is currently incarcerated. He has a ###-year mandatory sentence, and by God’s grace he has already completed ### years, with ### years remaining. I wrote him a letter, and he wrote back once. I later sent another letter, but I have not heard from him in over a year. I don’t know if my letter was lost or if something else happened, and not knowing how he is doing has been heavy on my heart. Please pray that God would give me peace and, if it is His will, provide a sign or an opportunity for me to know that ### is safe and doing well. Please pray that these years would be the last time ### is ever incarcerated, and that God would completely transform his life. Pray that the Lord protects him physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually while he is in prison. Ask God to provide for every need he has, surround him with His angels, guard him from harm, and fill him with His presence so that he never feels alone. Pray that God heals every wound, trauma, depression, fear, and negative thought in ###’s life. Pray that He softens and protects his heart so it never grows cold, bitter, or hardened, but instead remains tender, humble, and full of love. Pray that God gives him strength to endure these remaining years without losing hope, faith, or his mind. Please pray that ### encounters Jesus in a real and life-changing way. Pray that he develops a genuine relationship with God, grows in his faith, loves reading the Bible, and becomes the man God created him to be. Pray that the Holy Spirit transforms his thinking, gives him wisdom and self-control, and helps him truly understand what it means to live as a godly man. Pray that God reveals ###’s purpose and unfolds the plans He has already written for his life. Pray that he leaves behind every destructive habit, every wrong influence, and every pattern that led him to prison. Ask God to give him the strength and conviction never to return to his old ways, but to walk in obedience and freedom for the rest of his life. Please pray for ###’s future after his release. Pray that God opens doors for stable employment, safe housing, financial provision, and a strong support system. Pray that he is surrounded by people who encourage him to continue following God and making wise decisions. Please pray for his children. Ask God to protect them, comfort them, and strengthen their relationship with their father. Pray that God makes a way for ### to see them, restore the years that have been lost, and rebuild those relationships through love, healing, forgiveness, and trust. Please also pray for ###’s mother, sister, and entire family. Ask God to comfort them, strengthen them, provide for them, and carry them through the pain of having a loved one incarcerated. May they experience God’s peace and faithfulness during this season. Please pray for me as I continue to care about ### and support him as a friend. Ask God to teach me how to love him well, give me wisdom in every interaction, and place the right words on my heart whenever I write to him. May every letter I send encourage him, strengthen his faith, remind him of God’s love, and speak life into him. Finally, please pray that God blesses our friendship. If it is His will, may we continue encouraging one another for many years to come. I pray that the healing and redemption God has worked in my own life will one day encourage ### to believe that God can do the same for him. Thank you for praying with me that God continues His good work in ###’s life and that his future will be marked by hope, freedom, restoration, and faith in Christ.

We lift up your dear friend to the Lord with heavy hearts, knowing the weight of separation and uncertainty you both carry. The silence from him has surely been difficult, but we trust that God hears every unspoken prayer and sees every unseen struggle. The Bible reminds us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Even in the isolation of prison, God is near to him, and we pray He makes His presence known in powerful ways.

Father, we come before You on behalf of , asking for Your divine protection over him, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Surround him with Your angels, Lord, and guard him from harm, fear, and despair. Let him feel Your love in tangible ways, even in the darkness of his circumstances. Soften his heart, Lord, and heal every wound, trauma, and negative thought that has taken root. Replace bitterness with Your peace, hardness with tenderness, and hopelessness with faith. We declare that his heart will not grow cold but will remain open to Your transforming work.

We pray for his spiritual awakening, Lord. May he encounter Jesus in a real and life-changing way, surrendering his life fully to You. Let him hunger for Your Word, finding hope and direction in its pages. Give him wisdom, self-control, and a deep understanding of what it means to live as a godly man. Break every chain of destructive habits and influences, and replace them with Your truth and righteousness. We pray that when he is released, he will walk in obedience and freedom, never returning to his old ways.

For his future, Lord, we ask that You prepare the way. Open doors for stable employment, safe housing, and financial provision. Surround him with godly people who will encourage and support him in his walk with You. Restore his relationships, especially with his children. Heal the brokenness, rebuild trust, and let love and forgiveness flow between them. Comfort his family as well, Lord, his mother, sister, and all who love him. Strengthen them, provide for them, and fill them with Your peace.

For you, dear friend, we pray that God gives you wisdom and discernment as you continue to support . Let your letters be a source of encouragement, reminding him of God’s love and faithfulness. May your friendship be a testament to God’s redemption, showing him that transformation is possible. We ask that God bless this bond, using it for His glory and the good of both of you.

Finally, we declare that God’s plans for are good, plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We trust that He is working even now, preparing for a life marked by freedom, purpose, and faith in Christ. May the years ahead be filled with restoration, healing, and the joy of walking closely with You.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We’re holding your concern for ### close to our hearts. Waiting over a year without word from someone you love is its own kind of ache, the silence can feel heavy and disorienting. The fact that you’re still reaching out, still writing, still praying speaks volumes about the kind of friend you are. That steady commitment is already a gift to him, even when you can’t see the fruit of it.

It’s worth remembering that friendship is built over time through the small, faithful acts of showing up. In prison, mail call can be a lifeline, and each letter you send, whether answered or not, plants a reminder that he is not forgotten. There’s no way to know why the last letter went unanswered (it may be lost, held up, or a season where he simply couldn’t bring himself to respond), but please don’t let it discourage you from writing again when you feel prompted. Even a short note saying “I’m still here, still praying” is like a steady pulse of hope.

We’ll join you in asking God to let you know somehow that ### is safe and to steady your heart with peace that doesn’t depend on hearing back. And we’re praying with you that these years are the turning point, that he genuinely meets Jesus, heals from the wounds that shaped his past, and walks out a different man, with restored relationships and purposeful work.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, you see ### right where he is. You know the weight of loneliness and the battle to keep hope alive. Surround him with your presence, guard his heart from bitterness, and bring people into his life who will point him to you. We ask for transformation that touches every part of his story, his mind, his future, his children, his family. Give our friend peace in the waiting, wisdom for when to write and what to say, and the quiet assurance that you are at work even in the silence. In your name, Amen.

The not knowing, the silence stretching into more than a year, must lie heavy as a stone upon your heart. Yet it is precisely in such seasons that the promise stands firm: “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Perfect peace, a peace doubled and redoubled, is the portion of the soul that rolls the burden upon the Lord. That peace you crave for yourself, and that peace you long for your friend, is not found in the absence of trouble but in the presence of Jesus.

Your friend is shut in where you cannot reach him with a letter, but there is a Friend who walketh through stone walls and iron bars as though they were morning mist. Jesus Christ is the Friend that sticketh closer than a brother, and He enters the prison cell with a tenderness no human love can match. He is the sinner’s Friend, yes, the Friend of those who have fallen, who have made wreck of their lives, who have nothing to bring but their chains. He was numbered with transgressors, and He counts it no shame to sit by the captive and whisper hope into the deepest dungeon. Lay hold of this: if your friend is in the dark, the Sun of Righteousness can rise there. If he is alone, the Eternal Companion can fill the silence. Pray on, and rest your heart in this, for the Friend of the poor and the lost never slumbers.

That he has completed two years by God’s grace is a mercy to recount with thanksgiving. And those remaining years, they may well become the workshop of the Holy Ghost. Many a man has found liberty of soul while his body was in bonds. Pray that these days be the last of his incarceration, but pray more that they be the first of his true freedom in Christ. The Redeemer delights to take the ruined things, the shattered hopes, the men counted worthless, and from them fashion vessels of honor. He can transform the thinking, renew the mind, soften the heart so that bitterness dies and love blooms in the most unlikely soil. He can make the prison a sacred study where the Bible becomes his daily bread, where the old habits lose their grip because a new affection reigns.

Commit your friend into the pierced hands. When you cannot know, trust. When you cannot see, believe. The great Head of the Church often works in the hidden places, under ground, as it were, where no eye can trace Him, but He is mining out precious jewels. And as for yourself, be not anxious about the letter. The Lord can bridge the distance without paper and ink. Your own walk with God, your own experience of healing and redemption, is already a living epistle that speaks louder than any penned page. If you are enabled to love him well, to write when the Spirit prompts, to pray without ceasing, you are doing a friend’s truest work. Remember that Abraham was called the friend of God, and he pleaded for the ungodly. You, standing on the promises, may plead for your childhood friend and know that the Lord inclines His ear.

Peace, perfect peace, have it now. In this dark world of sin, the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. That peace is yours, and it can be his. Cast your care on Him, for He careth for you and for that soul behind the bars. The Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one straying sheep is on the move. Rest in that, and let your heart be quieted. He who began a good work in your friend will not leave it unfinished. The years ahead are not beyond the reach of omnipotent grace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I perceive in your request a love for your friend that is a rare and shining thing. You have poured out your soul in prayer for him, and you long for him as for the light itself. Do not think this is small. A genuine friend, when he sees his friend in bonds, carries him in his heart and would gladly give his own soul for him. This is the love of which the apostle spoke. Your anxiety over the lost letter and the silence is the wound of love, and it is a holy wound. But now I would have you remember what you yourself have known: that hope which is upon God is an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast. It does not let the vessel be wrecked by the waves of uncertainty. Your friend, though hidden from your sight, is not hidden from Christ, who has entered within the veil as High Priest. Cast this anchor often. You have not heard from him in over a year, but hope still enters where you cannot see, and it holds fast to the promises.

Do not let your heart be troubled because you demand a sign. You ask for peace first: receive it now. The peace of Christ is not a feeling that comes and goes; it is a gift. When He said, “My peace I give to you,” He meant that we should hold it with all alacrity, even before the trial lifts. If you wait for a letter or a proof before your heart is still, you have reversed the order of grace. Believe that God will do what is best for your friend’s soul, and let that be your peace. The same hope that saved you when you were dead in sins, having nothing of your own to bring, will not betray you in this matter. For if He made you a son when you were an enemy, will He not care for a beloved friend who is far away?

I commend your desire that these years should be the last of his incarceration, and that Christ should transform him utterly. Pray for this with boldness, and then add your own faith that it is already being worked out, even in the silence. The prison house is a dark place, but many have found there a table of blessings, sweet and free of cost. There, stripped of every worldly companion, a man may at last encounter the Friend who sticketh closer than a brother. Pray that he learns to love solitude with Christ, so that he never feels alone. The wounds of the past, the depression and fear, the bitter thoughts: these are the very materials that the Divine Physician uses. He softens the heart not by removing all hardship, but by anointing it with hope. Entrust all that healing to Him, and do not insist on seeing the process.

You ask for his future: employment, housing, provision, a support system. These are good things, but the greatest door you can ask God to open is the door of his heart. If he walks out a godly man, having left behind the habits that led him there, then all other needs will be added. Pray first for his soul’s liberty; the rest are shadows that follow the substance. And for his children: what years the locust has eaten can God restore. I have seen it. So pray with tears, but also with the confidence that the enemy of souls is not stronger than the Redeemer of families.

Now regarding your own part: you wish to love him well, to have wisdom, to write words that speak life. This is the mark of a spiritual friend. But do not be cast down if your letters seem to go unanswered. A letter that is written in love and prayer is never lost; it drops like seed into the ground, and God gives the increase in His time. Continue to write as the Spirit prompts, and then leave the outcome to the One who is able to do exceedingly above all that we ask. You have said that the healing and redemption God worked in your own life might one day encourage your friend. This is a holy ambition. But remember: it is not your story he needs most, but Christ’s story written upon your life. Let him see that you live in hope, not in the fretful anxiety of the world, and that will be a silent sermon.

Above all, love Christ more even than you love this friend. That is not a cold instruction; it is the only way to love your friend well. For if you love the Lord with all your heart, then you will desire for your friend what the Lord desires, and you will bear whatever delay the Lord appoints without losing faith. I have said that a friend is more longed for than the light, but I say to you that Christ is the true Light, and in His light we see light. Your friendship will be blessed and will endure for many years only if it is held within that greater friendship.

So let me pray with you now, not in the words you have given me, but in the spirit of them: O Lord, who look upon those in bonds and call them out of darkness, visit this prisoner with Your salvation. Be his peace in loneliness, his strength in weakness, his hope when time grows long. And give tears to his friend, but also the confidence that enters into the veil where Jesus our forerunner stands. Let them meet again in this life, if it be Your will, as brothers in Christ, and if not, let them await the day when all prisoners are set free. Amen.

The weight you are carrying is real, and that ache of not knowing is a heavy one. When you care deeply for a friend and the silence stretches on, it can stir up all kinds of fears and questions. But the Scriptures give us a sure anchor for times just like this. The peace you are praying for does not depend on receiving a sign, though God is gracious and may provide one. The deep, abiding peace comes from a mind that is stayed on Him, trusting in His Word rather than in our changing feelings or circumstances. Feelings of peace come and go, like the flavor of a meal without salt. Monday mornings can feel flat and miserable, but the faith that saves and sustains is built on the solid rock of what God has said, not on how we feel. You are asking for a sign to know your friend is well, and that is an honest prayer, but the truest peace will come as you release that need into the hands of the One who loves your friend even more than you do.

Think of the parables where something precious was lost. The shepherd went out searching for the one lost sheep. The woman swept the house diligently until she found the lost coin. And when the lost son deliberately walked away into a far country, the father never stopped scanning the horizon with a heart ready to restore him. Jesus receives sinners; that is the rejoicing truth of heaven. There is joy in the presence of the angels over one sinner who repents. So when you pray for your friend to encounter Jesus in a real and life-changing way, you are praying in perfect harmony with the heart of the Shepherd. He is already seeking the lost. The silence you feel does not mean He has stopped searching. The Holy Spirit is that woman with the lamp, looking into every dark corner of a life, and no prison cell is too remote for His light to reach. The God who ordains peace for us is at work, even when our eyes cannot trace His hand.

Keep writing those letters. Even if you never receive a reply, you are sowing seeds of peace into a life that has known turmoil. The wisdom from above is peaceable, and when you sow peace, you will reap a harvest of righteousness. Your words, penned in love and speaking of God’s faithfulness, are a spirit force that can enter that prison and bring a calm that passes all understanding. You are being salt, preserving hope and bringing the flavor of grace into what could be a bitter existence. A heart hardened by prison walls can be softened by the persistent, faithful love of a friend who keeps showing up with the truth. You asked that God would heal every wound and remove every destructive pattern, and this is exactly His business. He says, “Peace, peace, to him that is far off,” and your friend, however far he feels, is not beyond the reach of that promise. God heals that which is broken and restores that which is lost.

The transformation you are asking for is what the Good Shepherd does. He finds the lost sheep and carries it home rejoicing. So pray with confidence, not because of a feeling of peace, but because of the Word of the Lord that promises He is able to do this. The hope we have results in joy and peace when we believe. So believe that the Father is already running out to meet the returning son. Believe that in the place where your friend is, the bonds of Christ are being manifested, and the gospel can advance even there. The silence of waiting is not a denial of your request; it is often the soil in which faith grows deepest. Keep your eyes on the Lord, and His perfect peace will guard your heart and mind. The day of rejoicing over the one who was lost being found is coming.
