Please pray for my friend ### and his family

Disciple of Prayer
He sent this message: "Got a call that my grandma got rushed to the hospital. She isn’t doing too good at all and the doctor said she’d be lucky to make it 48 hours and the family has to make a decision in that time frame. She has COPD and a massive mass on her lungs. This is one of the hardest things for me because that’s the woman who pretty much raised me. " Thank you <3

We lift up and his family in this heart-wrenching time, standing together in prayer as they face the uncertainty and grief of his grandmother’s critical condition. The love he describes, being raised by this precious woman, makes this trial all the more painful, and our hearts ache with his. We know the weight of such moments, when medical reports bring urgency and decisions feel overwhelming. Yet even in this valley, we declare that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and that His grace is sufficient to sustain them.

Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for ’s grandmother. You are the Great Physician, the One who numbers our days and holds life in Your hands (Psalm 139:16). We ask for Your mercy and healing, trusting that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37). If it is Your will, we pray for a miracle, restoration of her strength, a lifting of this burden from her lungs, and more time for her to be surrounded by those who love her. But if her time on earth is drawing to a close, we ask for Your peace to envelop this family. Comfort them with the assurance that You are close to the dying and that to be absent from the body is to be present with You (2 Corinthians 5:8). Give them wisdom as they make decisions, and let Your presence be their anchor in this storm.

Lord, we also lift up specifically. The bond he shares with his grandmother is sacred, and this loss would leave a profound void. Strengthen him with Your love, reminding him that You collect every tear in a bottle (Psalm 56:8) and that You are near to those who call on You in truth (Psalm 145:18). Surround him with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let him feel the embrace of Your presence in this painful season.

We rebuke the spirit of fear and despair that seeks to take hold of this family. You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that Your perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18), and we stand on the promise that You will never leave nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). Father, let Your hope rise in their hearts, even as they walk through this dark valley.

For those reading this, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to consider the brevity of life and the eternity that follows. The Bible tells us that it is appointed for man to die once, and after this comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27). But God, in His great love, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life (John 3:16). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not placed your faith in Jesus, we pray you would do so today, confess your sins, turn from them, and trust in Him alone for your salvation.

We continue to pray for and his family, asking that You would be their strength, their hope, and their peace. May they feel Your presence in tangible ways, and may this trial draw them closer to You and to one another. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We’re holding ###, his grandma, and the whole family in our hearts right now. Watching someone who poured so much life and love into us slip toward eternity is a deep, disorienting ache, especially when that person was the one who raised you. The weight you described is real, and it’s okay to simply sit with that heaviness alongside ### rather than try to lift it away.

One of the most grounded things you can offer is your steady presence. Let ### know you’re there, not just to pray, but to listen, to remember, to help with the little practical things that become impossible when you’re sitting vigil. A meal, a ride, a quiet hour spent just being near. Grief this fresh doesn’t need explanations; it needs someone willing to be still in it with you.

We’re also praying that the family’s decisions in these next hours are surrounded by clarity and compassion. That kind of pressure is weighty, and God does not stand far off from it. Even in a hospital room, even when words run out, the Spirit is present.

Lord Jesus, draw near to ###’s grandmother right now. Calm her body and her spirit. Surround her with your peace, and if you choose to restore her, we give you thanks, but if this is her time to come home, we ask that it be gentle and filled with your nearness. Hold ### and every family member keeping watch. Let the love she poured into them be a steady anchor, not a crushing weight. Guide the hands and minds of the medical team, and give the family single-heartedness in whatever choices they must make. Most of all, let them sense you holding them up, moment by moment. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

The plea of your friend’s heart is heard, and the shadow of the valley looms large when the one who nurtured us from childhood draws near to her end. Yet from the throne of grace, the command rings clear: “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people.” This comfort is no shallow draft but a draught from the river of the Water of Life, flowing from Christ Jesus Himself, the very essence of all true consolation. In this crucible, we are driven to our Father, crying, “My Father, will You not comfort my heart?” and He does not leave His child desponding.

The sorrow is keen, for the bond of one who “pretty much raised” us is a sacred cord. But remember, when earthly comforts fail and even past experiences minister fresh distress, there remains a peculiar and unfailing source: the quickening Word of God. “This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your Word has quickened me.” Let your friend cling to that living Word, for when it breathes life into the spirit, it brings a consolation that outshines all grief. The place of trial itself, this hospital room, this vigil, is Jerusalem, and there God pledges to comfort His people. Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together; in the fellowship of the saints, in the very Church of God, is the ordained place of comfort.

The end of this mortal life stands before her as a certainty, a finale to all her service and suffering. Yet for those in Christ, that end is but the passage into eternal life. The dread of something after death melts away for the child of God, for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Your friend must know that it is better to be the most afflicted child of God than the happy worldling, for the sorrows of time, even the sorrows of death, shall soon be utterly forgotten. He drinks of the Water of Life and forgets his previous pangs of thirst; the liberty of the sons of God eclipses the chains of earthly bondage.

Therefore, let him not be of little faith, why does he doubt? All trials are in the hand of the great God. If his grandmother is in Christ, her soul will leap away from death into eternal life in a moment. The Lord’s omniscient eye sees all her history, all her affliction, and He tends her with the fondness of a mother. And to your friend, who feels his own lack of sensibility or fears the future, the word is clear: you who have received Christ as the source of your life, continue to walk in Him. As the blind received sight, so you received salvation as a sheer gift. Persevere in this life of faith, even through the valley of the shadow, and you will find Him the same comfort when you walk through to the end. Peace shall be upon the Israel of God.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Sorrow is the common lot of this mortal life, and none can sail its long sea without disquietude. Your friend's affliction now is heavy, for the one who nurtured him lies near death. This is a grief that pierces deep because it springs from love and gratitude. Yet do not lose heart in this tribulation, for such sorrow, when borne with faith, can become a seed of great joy. Weep for this woman who raised him, for tears shed in love are not wasted, even if they seem to profit her little now. They soften the soil of your friend's own soul, turning him from vain comforts and drawing him to examine his own standing before God. In such a furnace, dross is burned away; the heart learns to cling not to transitory things but to the eternal.

Let your friend pour out his grief to the Lord, who alone heals the soul's wounds. The doctors give their sentence, but God's mercy endures beyond the breath of this body. Pray not that she escape death, for no one does, but that she find peace with her Maker in these hours. If she has not yet repented of uncleanness and sin, this is the moment for godly sorrow that brings salvation without regret. For the soul that departs in Christ does not truly die but enters rest. Your friend's duty now is twofold: to honor her with presence and tenderness, and to commend her spirit to the only Judge whose verdict matters. He must set aside the joy that brings forth grief and embrace the affliction that yields everlasting comfort. Let him trust that God's timing, though painful, is never without purpose.

Thank you for bringing this to us so we can stand with your friend and his family in prayer. The weight of such a sudden crisis is immense, especially when the one suffering is the woman who raised him. In moments like these, words often feel thin, but we have a Savior who is not distant from our pain. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, He understands the flood of emotions your friend is facing right now, and He draws near to the brokenhearted.

As the family faces a difficult decision in these coming hours, pray for them to have a supernatural peace that defies human logic. Whatever they choose, they will need to rest in God’s mercy, knowing that they are not the ultimate authors of life and death. The enemy would love to heap guilt on them later, thoughts of “If only we had done something different.” Gently remind your friend that death often stirs such feelings, but they are not from the Lord. His grace covers our limitations and the moments we cannot fully see.

Remind him too that this life is not the end. The resurrection was foretold long ago and made certain through Christ’s own rising. The apostle Paul described it like a seed planted in the ground, what appears to perish is actually the doorway to something far more alive. He wrote those words specifically to comfort believers who were grieving loved ones, assuring them that those who die in the Lord are not lost but are simply ahead of us, waiting in God’s presence where all trials are finally over. There will be no more need for comfort then, for every sorrow will be swallowed up.

Let your friend know he is not alone. Just as Paul once longed for Timothy’s company because he knew Timothy would genuinely care for his state, so the body of Christ is meant to gather around those in pain. Be that presence for him. Come alongside with steady, quiet love, not with hurried answers, but with a willingness to simply be there, to listen, and to weep with those who weep.

We are praying that the Comforter Himself would draw near to this grandmother and to everyone around her, and that in the days ahead the family would find their true refuge in Jesus, who died and rose again so that death would have no final sting.
