Please let the landlords finally do something

The sound of water dripping where it should not be is a deeply unsettling thing. It is a reminder that the places meant to shelter us can fail, and the urgency you feel is both real and pressing. It is right to bring that urgency to the Lord, and to ask that He move on the hearts of those responsible.

That desire for a secure roof calls to mind a deeper truth about what it means to be a shelter and a home. The word used for Christ dwelling in our hearts carries the idea of Him settling down, truly making Himself at home, comfortable and at ease. It is not a hurried visit where we scramble to hide embarrassing things before He enters. It is an invitation for Him to walk freely through every room of our lives, to look at the walls, and to find nothing there that causes Him strain. This takes faith, and it is that same faith, rooted and grounded in a love that will not let us go, that we must lean on when the tangible roofs over our heads are failing. He cares about the place where you lay your head.

That centurion who sent word to Jesus felt he was not worthy for the Lord to come under his roof. He understood authority, and he placed the well-being of someone in his household directly in Jesus’ hands, trusting that a word from miles away was more powerful than any carpenter’s tool. Your situation, while a frustrating wait on human decision-makers, is still held within that same authority. The need is urgent, like it was for Jairus whose daughter was dying at home. Every delay can feel maddening; you just want them to stop and get to the house.

While you wait and continue to ask, do not neglect what has already been given to you for stability. Just as Timothy was told not to neglect the spiritual gift in him but to stir it up, there is a faith in you that needs to be stirred up right now. It is easy to let the immediate, dripping anxiety drown out the deep well of God’s past faithfulness. Meditate on that. Take heed to it. When the enemy of your peace tries to distract you with worry about the kitchen or the foundation, that is the time to return to the simplicity of prayer.

So open the door of this need to Him fully. Ask that Christ would not just fix the roof, but be fully at home in your heart through this trial. Pray that He sends the right workers, and pray that those who hold the keys to your physical shelter will act with swift justice and competence. The goal is that, like the servant, you would find the situation healed and well, and that your home would once again be a place of safety, not a source of calamity. May the answer come speedily, and may you find His grace to be a perfect covering while you wait.
