Psalm 37:27 :
Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.

A Prayer Based on Psalm 37:27:
Our prayer:
"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word that guides our steps. Please help us to depart from evil and give us the courage to do good in every part of our life today. Grant us wisdom to resist temptation, and fill our heart with Your lasting peace and security. In Jesus' name, amen."

We hear your earnest plea for divine strength to turn away from evil and walk in righteousness, and we join our hearts with yours in seeking God’s transforming power. Your prayer is rooted in the truth of Psalm 37:27, which declares, "Depart from evil, and do good. Live securely forever." This verse is a beautiful reminder that holiness is not merely about avoiding sin but actively pursuing what is pleasing to the Lord. The call to "do good" is just as vital as the command to "depart from evil," for true faith is evidenced by both a turning away from darkness and a walking in the light (1 John 1:6-7).

We also affirm your recognition of Jesus as the Word of God and the Bread of Heaven. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and it is by His name alone that we are saved (Acts 4:12). His life, death, and resurrection are the foundation of our ability to depart from evil and do good, for He has broken the power of sin and given us His Spirit to empower us (Romans 8:1-4). Without Him, our efforts to live righteously would be in vain, for apart from Christ, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, grateful for Your Word that lights our path and Your Spirit that empowers us. Lord, we confess that at times, evil can seem enticing, and the courage to do good can waver in the face of temptation or fear. But You are faithful, and Your grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strengthen us, O God, to turn away from every form of wickedness, whether it be in our thoughts, words, or deeds. Search our hearts and reveal any areas where we have compromised with sin (Psalm 139:23-24). Give us the boldness to reject the lies of the enemy and the wisdom to discern Your will in every situation.

Father, fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit so that we may walk in obedience and bear fruit that glorifies You (Galatians 5:22-23). Where we have grown weary in doing good, renew our strength (Isaiah 40:31). Where we have been complacent, stir in us a holy fire to serve You wholeheartedly. Help us to love what You love and hate what You hate, aligning our desires with Your perfect will. May our lives reflect the character of Christ, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

Lord, we also pray for the courage to stand firm in a world that often mocks righteousness. When faced with opposition or persecution, remind us that we are not of this world (John 17:16) and that our reward is in heaven (Matthew 5:12). Let us be salt and light, showing forth Your goodness in our families, workplaces, and communities (Matthew 5:13-16). May our actions point others to You, the only source of true life and peace.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your promise that those who seek You will lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10). Guide our steps today and every day, that we may walk in Your ways and dwell securely in Your presence forever. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Be encouraged, dear brother or sister, for the Lord is with you. The battle against evil is not yours alone, it is the Lord’s (1 Samuel 17:47), and He has already won the victory through Christ. As you abide in Him, you will find the strength to resist temptation and the joy of walking in His purposes. Remember the words of James 4:7-8: "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." Stay close to the Lord through prayer, Scripture, and fellowship with other believers, and He will sustain you. You are not alone in this journey, we stand with you, united in Christ, pressing on toward the goal of godliness.

We were encouraged by your prayer to turn from evil and to find courage to do good in every part of life today. That is a humble and honest desire, and we are joining you in bringing it to the Lord.

We know that desire to get it right everywhere all at once can feel heavy. We have found it helpful to think of this more like training than trying. Like preparing for a long distance run, lasting growth comes through small, faithful practices over time, not through one perfect day. God is forming us step by step as we keep turning to Him.

One simple way to live out your prayer today might be to choose one area that feels most pressing and name one clear good to do there instead. Deciding ahead of time what you will turn away from and what you will turn toward, and inviting a trusted believer to know and pray with you about it, can make courage more concrete. Quietly noticing what pulls at you and gently turning your attention to what is wholesome helps build the habit of choosing well.

We are grateful you shared this with us and we are praying with you.

Father, thank You for the heart that wants to walk in Your ways. Give our friend wisdom to recognize what to turn from and courage to do what is good today, one step at a time. Draw near and fill them with Your steady peace as they seek You. In Jesus' name, amen.

This is a prayer which the Lord Himself delights to answer, for it asks according to His own word. Turn from evil and do good, then you will dwell in the land forever, says the Psalmist, and your heart has rightly taken hold of that promise.

To depart from evil is not to yield the form of godliness while keeping the friendship of the world, nor to do a little wrong that greater good may come of it. Your duty is to do the right, and consequences are with God. It will never in the long run be good for you or for others to do wrong. Therefore pray as you have prayed, Lead us not into temptation, and then walk consistently with that prayer. Do not go where temptation is to be found and expect to stand, but seek grace to resist it, and to do good in every part of life, not in your own strength, but in communion with Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit who alone can work this in you.

Remember also that good works do not make your peace with God, but flow from it. We are not saved by our doings, for our best works have spots and blurs and need to be washed in the blood of Christ, yet being saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, we are created unto good works. What the Lord bids you do, He enables you to do. He is good to the soul that seeks Him, and He will keep up your courage and prevent you from sinking into despair, even when temptation presses hard upon you.

May the Lord hear this cry and answer it for you today.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your word that guides our steps. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, that You would grant to these Your seekers grace to turn from every evil way and courage to do good in every part of life. Give wisdom to discern temptation and strength to resist it, and fill the heart with Your lasting peace and security, that dwelling in Your presence they may abide forever. Keep them much with Christ, both in private and in public, and make them steadfast to do the right. In Jesus name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer to turn from evil and do good is according to Scripture and it is good that you bring it before the Lord. As it is written, Turn from evil and do good, then you will dwell in the land forever, and again the prophet says, Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit, depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.

This is not a small matter, for the fear of the Lord needs to be taught and learned. It requires wakeful attention, like any art that must be practiced. To come to God and ask for help to depart from evil is the beginning of that learning, and God hears such a prayer when it is offered through Jesus Christ, who alone is our salvation and who is the true Word of God and Bread of Heaven.

To truly depart from evil is more than only leaving old sins behind. Repentance means to bring forth fruit worthy of it, to do the opposite of what was done before and to show forth good deeds greater than the former evil. If we have spoken harshly, we learn to bless. If we have lived carelessly, we learn self control and moderation. If we have looked toward what is wrong, we turn our eyes and heart toward what is pure. In this way we not only pull out the dart but also heal the wound, and we seek peace both with God and with others. That peace has left the earth in many ways, but God can bring it back when we put away pride and follow a sober and faithful life.

You also ask for courage to do good in every part of life today. Such courage comes from the Lord. When the heart is strengthened in Christ, we can speak and act without fear, with boldness to do what is right even when it is difficult. Ask Him therefore not only to forgive but to make you bold and steadfast, to give you wisdom to resist temptation and to walk faithfully in His word.

Let us pray together for you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word that guides our steps. We ask You to help these who have prayed to depart from every form of evil and to give them courage to do good in every part of life today. Teach them the fear of the Lord, grant them wisdom to resist temptation, and fill their hearts with Your lasting peace and security. Keep them in Your mercy, strengthen them to bear fruit worthy of repentance, and help them to seek peace and pursue it through Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

Your prayer reflects the heart of Psalm 37:27, to turn from evil and do good, with the promise that those who walk in that way will dwell secure in the Lord. It is a good and right prayer, and God hears it.

Scripture shows us why we need His help to live it. The law of God is good, and in our inward person we agree that it is good and right. Yet we also find a struggle within us. The flesh and the spirit war against each other, so that the good we want to do we often fail to do, and the evil we do not want to do is present with us. This is why turning from evil is not something we can do in our own strength alone. It begins with a reverence for the Lord. To fear the Lord is to hate evil, and by that reverence we are kept and helped to depart from evil.

That turning also has two parts. It is not only shunning what is wrong, but actively doing what is good. That includes guarding our tongue from slander and unwholesome speech, turning away from contention and strife, seeking peace and pursuing it, and not withholding good when it is in our power to give it. Scripture reminds us that to know to do good and not do it is itself wrong. To follow what is good shows that we belong to God, and we are called to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.

The Lord sees this walk. His eyes are over the righteous, and He will bring every work into judgment, even the secret things, whether good or evil. He does not want us to do good only for reward or only from fear of quick punishment, but from a heart of love for Him. He delights to give wisdom to resist temptation, to establish your steps, and to fill you with His peace as you choose His way.

We join you in this prayer before the Father.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which shows us what is good and guides our steps. We ask You to help us turn from evil in every area of life and give us courage to do good. Teach us to reverence You, to hate what You hate and love what You love, and to live not by the desires of the flesh but by Your Spirit within us. Give wisdom to resist temptation, guard our lips and our actions, and help us to actively do good and seek peace where You have placed us. We trust in Jesus, who is the living Word of God and the bread of life, and in His name we ask for Your strength and lasting peace. Amen.
