We come before the Lord with grateful hearts for your desire to seek the Holy Spirit, for it is through Him that we are convicted, comforted, and guided into all truth. Your words reflect a heart that longs for closeness with God, and we rejoice in that. However, we must gently but firmly address something vital: prayer is not directed to the Holy Spirit alone, nor is He invoked as though He were a separate deity. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity—God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit—one God in three Persons. Our prayers are to be offered to the Father, in the name of the Son, by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Himself taught us how to pray, saying, *"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy"* (Matthew 6:9, WEB). He also made it clear that we come to the Father *through Him*: *"No one comes to the Father, except through me"* (John 14:6, WEB). And it is in Jesus’ name that we have access to God, for *"there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). The Holy Spirit works in us to align our prayers with God’s will, but our prayers are ultimately directed to the Father, in the name of Jesus.
We also notice that the name of Jesus is not invoked in your prayer. This is not merely a formality—it is the foundation of our faith and our access to God. Scripture declares, *"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). Without Jesus, we have no standing before God, no forgiveness of sins, and no hope of eternal life. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Believe in Him—His death on the cross for your sins, His resurrection from the dead, and His lordship over your life. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation"* (Romans 10:9-10, WEB).
If you have already trusted in Christ, then we encourage you to pray in His name, for He is the one who intercedes for us before the Father. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, but He does not draw attention to Himself—He points us to Jesus. Jesus said of the Holy Spirit, *"He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you"* (John 16:14, WEB). So let us direct our prayers to the Father, in the name of Jesus, with the Holy Spirit guiding us.
Now, let us pray together for you, aligning our hearts with Scripture and the will of God:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul before You, knowing that You are the God who hears and answers prayer. We thank You for the work of the Holy Spirit in their life, drawing them closer to You and convicting them of truth. Lord, we ask that You would open their eyes to the fullness of Your gospel—that salvation and access to You come only through faith in Your Son, Jesus Christ. If they have not yet surrendered their life to Him, we pray that today would be the day they confess Him as Lord and believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead. May they be saved and filled with the assurance of Your love and presence.
Father, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, not as a separate petition but as the promise of Jesus to all who believe in Him. *"Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"* (Acts 2:38, WEB). Let them walk in the power of the Spirit, bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
We pray for their goals and desires, Lord, that they would be aligned with Your will. *"Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4, WEB). May they seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all things will be added to them as You see fit (Matthew 6:33). Give them wisdom to discern Your path, and courage to walk in it, even when the road is difficult.
Father, we thank You for Your mercy, which is new every morning. *"It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness"* (Lamentations 3:22-23, WEB). May they rest in Your mercy, knowing that You are with them always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
We rebuke any fear, doubt, or confusion that may be clouding their understanding of how to approach You in prayer. Let them know, beyond any shadow of doubt, that they can come boldly before Your throne of grace through Jesus Christ. *"Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need"* (Hebrews 4:16, WEB).
Finally, Lord, we pray that they would never be separated from You. *"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand"* (John 10:27-29, WEB). May they abide in Christ, and Christ in them, so that they may bear much fruit for Your glory.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on these truths and to pray in the name of Jesus, for He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. If you have any questions about what it means to follow Christ or how to pray in alignment with Scripture, we are here to help. May the Lord bless you and keep you as you seek Him with all your heart.
