Good Game Wasted
The Kiss of Welcome
Your prayer for your lost bird has been heard, and your honest confession before God is precious. You have asked not only for the return of a beloved creature, but for one more chance to be kind and patient with those you love, and God hears that humble heart.

We know how sharp this sorrow is. Even a small bird is part of the household God has entrusted to your care, and to miss its presence is to feel a real affliction. Scripture teaches us that affliction is not without purpose. Tribulation works patience, and patience experience, and experience hope, and hope does not put us to shame. Like a schoolmaster for children, affliction trains us, and for us who carry many faults, it can become the cause of numberless good things when we bear it bravely and give thanks in all things rather than sinking under it.

You spoke of missing many chances to show kindness and patience. That awareness itself is a grace. God does not turn away a contrite heart. His mercy gives new chances each day to grow in love. The Scriptures call us to run with patience the race that is set before us, not to faint or turn back, but to continue steadily in the course God has appointed. Part of that patience is to endure as Christ endured, and to wait for Him with a prepared heart, not troubled but trusting. Patience and hope strengthen each other, and both are nourished when we are comforted and steadied by the Scriptures.

So we pray for you in this waiting.

Father in heaven, you see this loss and the love that feels it deeply. You care for every living creature, and you care far more for the heart that turns to you in sorrow and repentance. If it is your will, we ask you to guide this small bird to safety and return it home. Whether it is found or not, we ask you to grant comfort, to quiet fear and anxiety, and to give a renewed spirit of kindness and patience. Teach through this affliction what is needed, strengthen hope, and help your child to run the present race without fainting, abiding in your Word and waiting faithfully for your help. Forgive past failures in love, and by your grace grant fresh opportunity day by day to love people and animals well, as a faithful steward of what you have given. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who endured for us and who promises never to leave us. Amen.

Keep seeking the Lord in prayer and in Scripture, and let each day be the new chance you have asked for, to show the patience and kindness He is forming in you.

Your honest prayer about your lost bird and the regret you feel is heard, and the sorrow in it is understandable. To love a small creature that has been entrusted to your care and then to have it lost brings real grief, and to look back and see missed chances to be more kind and patient makes that grief heavier.

Scripture gives a refrain that is meant to settle deep in the heart, that His mercy endures forever. It is repeated over and over when it speaks of creation, of the sun ruling by day and the moon and stars by night, of all the ways God provides, so that we will not think His mercy is thin or short lived. His mercy is as high as the heavens are above the earth and it reaches from everlasting to everlasting. It is not a supply that runs out after a certain number of failures.

There is a sad word in the prophets where God said to a persistently unfaithful nation that He would have no more mercy for a time, because they had lived only by His mercy and yet kept turning away. That word was for hardened, unrepentant wandering. It is not the word for a contrite heart that turns and calls on Him. The same Scriptures show that God delights in mercy and is looking for the reason to forgive, waiting for the simple prayer, God I am sorry. When Jonah was sent to warn a cruel city, he did not want to go because he knew God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in kindness, and would forgive if they repented. That is the heart you are praying to.

You said you have missed many chances and are asking for one more. That humility is like Jacob when he prayed, I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and all the truth you have shown to your servant. God does not turn away from that kind of honesty. Another psalm teaches that even when trouble comes through our own fault, when we are to blame and we finally call on the Lord, because His mercy endures forever He hears and delivers and leads by a right way. Though it is your fault, His mercy is still open when you call.

God also understands the love for what is lost. Jesus told of a shepherd who seeks a lost sheep and a woman who searches diligently for a lost coin. A coin has no use while it is lost, and a sheep is helpless when it strays, but the seeker does not dismiss the loss. The finding brings joy, and that picture tells us how God sees the lost and how He shares in our longing for restoration. He who made the heavens and the earth, who notes even the sparrow that falls, knows where your bird is and cares about your care for it.

Mercy and truth meet together in Jesus Christ. God is both just and merciful, so He does not overlook wrong, but He has made a way through the cross where justice is satisfied and mercy can be freely given. The atonement is like the mercy seat where blood was placed, showing that access to mercy is open through Christ. That is why you can come boldly and ask for mercy, for help, and for a new opportunity to show the kindness God has shown you.

Bring your request to Him plainly. Ask Him if it be His will to guide your bird home or into safe hands, and ask Him to give you peace to trust His goodness whatever the outcome. Thank Him that His mercy has not run out on you. And as you wait, let this become the return in your heart that Scripture speaks of, a turning back to your first love for the Lord, choosing with His strength to be more patient and gentle with people and animals He places before you. Each new day will bring fresh chances to live that mercy out.

May the Lord hear your cry, comfort you in this waiting, forgive what is past when you confess it, and fill you with His enduring mercy. In Jesus name, may He guide what is lost and guard your heart with His peace.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for the return of your lost pet bird.

We have continued to lift you and your beloved bird before the Lord and we have asked Him to guide your pet safely home and to grant you peace while you wait. We were deeply moved by your honest heart in confessing that you have missed chances to be kind and patient with the people and animals you love and your prayer for one more chance. We want to remind you that our God is full of mercy and compassion and His mercies are new every morning as it is written in Lamentations 3:23, and that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us as promised in 1 John 1:9. We know He sees your love for your pet and your desire to show greater kindness and patience.

We also take comfort that not one sparrow falls apart from the care of our Father as Jesus tells us in Matt 10:29, and how much more He cares for you and for all He has created.

If your request was answered and your bird has been returned, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you and give glory to God. If your request does not seem to have been answered and your bird is still missing, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to keep standing with you and asking the Lord for His gracious help.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that He will comfort your heart, renew your hope, and show you His unfailing love and forgiveness each day in Jesus Name, Amen.
