Players

We join you in praying against this evil behavior and for the souls of those who practice it, and we thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord with us.

We agree that being a player in romantic relationships is sinful and destructive. It treats other people made in God's image as objects for selfish pleasure, it involves deception and lying, and it almost always involves sexual immorality outside of God's design. God created romantic love to lead to courtship with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who are believers in Christ, and that marriage is to be lifelong and honored. Scripture is clear that Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight Prov 12:22, and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Heb 13:4. We are also warned to Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Cor 6:18, and But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints Eph 5:3. Those who live as players are not walking in love but in the works of the flesh, and we rebuke that pattern because it harms the player, it deeply wounds those who are deceived and used, and it mocks God's holy design for love and marriage.

Yet we also know that no one is beyond the grace of God if they will repent and come to Christ. We pray for their salvation and transformation, for God does not desire that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9, and Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Cor 5:17. We pray that God would convict them of their deception and fornication, grant them godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and give them a new heart as He promised I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you Ezek 36:26.

We pray together in Jesus' name, Father, we lift up every person who is living as a player, manipulating hearts, lying, and committing sexual immorality. Lord, open their eyes to see their sin as You see it, break their pride, and draw them to true repentance. Bring them to the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ where forgiveness and new life are found, cleanse them by the blood of Jesus, and make them new creations who flee from immorality and pursue righteousness, love and purity. Heal also those who have been hurt and betrayed by such behavior, comfort their broken hearts, restore their trust in You, and guard them from bitterness. Raise up in this generation men and women who will honor You in courtship and who will seek a godly spouse for a Christ centered marriage that honors You. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray with boldness for these souls, knowing that God is able to save and to change even the hardest heart, and to speak the truth in love when you have opportunity, warning others that true love is patient, kind, faithful and pure and is found in God's way alone.

We appreciate you bringing this before the Lord so directly. It hurts to watch people treat romance as a game, leaving others wounded and distrustful, and it is good to want something better for everyone involved.

We join you in asking God to interrupt that pattern. We believe He is able to redeem even deeply ingrained ways of living, to free people from serving their own desires and to teach them to love with honesty and faithfulness. That change begins with a humble turning to Christ and a growing dependence on Him day by day, and we pray God would draw those who have been playing with hearts to that place of repentance and new life.

If this is close to home for you, one simple next step can help keep your prayer focused. Bring before the Lord the names or faces that burden you most, ask for their good and for healing for those they have hurt, and ask Him to show you how to model faithful, respectful love in your own relationships and community.

Father, we lift to You all who have used others in romance and all who have been hurt by it. Have mercy, open eyes to the harm done, and draw each one to Jesus for forgiveness and transformation. Guard the wounded, give them healing and wisdom, and help us all to walk in Your ways. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer is heard and it is a right and godly petition to bring before the throne of grace, for you ask not that sin should be excused but that sinners should be saved.

We join you in praying that those who play with hearts and trifle with love, who are unfaithful and deceitful in romantic relationships, may be brought to see their evil behavior as God sees it and may be granted true repentance. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh and brings no glory to God, but there is a repentance unto life which is the blessed gift of God the Holy Spirit and is absolutely necessary unto salvation. We pray that the Lord would grant them that holy, healthy, heavenly repentance which gives Him glory, a godly sorrow for sin that leads them to look out of self to Christ and to Christ only.

For faith and repentance are inseparable. We pray that they may be brought to trust in the faithful Friend who sticketh closer than a brother, the Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is faithful in all things. He proclaims salvation full and free, without money and without price, to all who will come. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, for Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and He is exalted on high to give repentance as well as remission of sins.

Let us pray together that God would work in them that repentance which makes them avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for them, that they would forsake the path of unfaithfulness and be found faithful to their Master, faithful to His Word, and faithful in all their ways. For it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful, and only the grace of God can make us so.

We pray that where there has been deceit, there may be truth, where there has been lust and selfishness, there may be holiness, and where there has been hardness of heart, there may be that rainbow of tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His finished work. May the blessed Giver of all repentance unto salvation guard them from false repentance and give them that repentance which need not to be repented of, and with it the full and free forgiveness of all sins through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer request is heard and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord. It is right to grieve over deceit and unfaithfulness in romantic relationships, for such playing with the hearts of others is sin, and it wounds both those who are deceived and those who deceive.

We pray that God in His goodness would bring these men and women to a true sense of their own sin. As Scripture teaches, God is longsuffering and calls all to repentance, not desiring that any should be punished but that having become humble and condemning their own sins they might hasten to receive remission through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other way of salvation, and no other name by which we are forgiven.

We ask the Lord to work in them a godly sorrow, not a worldly sorrow that passes away, but a sorrow that works repentance unto salvation without regret. True repentance is more than tears or words. It brings forth fruits meet for repentance. That means turning away from sexual immorality, from lying and manipulation, from using others for selfish pleasure, and turning to Christ in faith.

We pray that they would learn what God has ordained for good, that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy and living together belong only within that covenant. Outside of it, such acts are not love but sin, and they treasure up wrath for the day of righteous judgment if they remain unyielding. Yet even now God reveals His mercy, and if they will be converted He will heal them.

The Church is like a spiritual bath that washes not the filth of the body but the stains of the soul, through many methods of repentance that God has given. So we do not pray that God would bless or affirm these unstable and unfaithful relationships, but that He would convict, cleanse, and make new. Let us pray that those who have been hardened, even after hearing many times, may yet hear once more and be converted, for often the fruit of many warnings appears all at once when the heart is finally softened.

So we pray: Father, show these who are players the seriousness of their sin, grant them humility to confess it, grant them faith to look to Your Son crucified and risen for forgiveness, and grant them grace to walk in newness of life, forsaking their former way and pursuing purity, honesty, and faithfulness. Bring them into Your family, form Christ in them, and help them to bear fruit that remains. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Redeemer. Amen.

A while back, I urged everyone to pray for the healing of the bass player in my band, who suffered a heart attack 3 months ago, and underwent triple bypass surgery. Now, he's good enough to play again. Though he still cannot lift heavy weights, he has to get other people to do it for them...
