Picnic

We thank you for sharing this request and we have heard your desire to bring cheer to your family with a simple time together.

It is not silly to desire such a thing. God has given the sea and the shore and the fellowship of family for our refreshment, and to seek a modest joy together is not excess. As Scripture teaches, we are not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts, by going beyond what is necessary into gluttony or show, but we are permitted and even encouraged to care for the body for health and for wholesome gladness, while spending our chief industry on spiritual things. A simple picnic, bread and what you have, enjoyed together with thankfulness, is of this wholesome kind.

We understand the pressure you feel with limited funds and with necessities that keep arising. It is right that you put those necessities first and that you seek to earn honestly what you need. The Lord sees both your care for your family and your diligence.

We pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this family and for their love for one another. You know their need to be cheered and lifted up, and You know their financial limits and the many necessities before them. We ask that You provide for what they truly need according to Your wisdom and goodness, and that You grant them peace as they trust You. If it is Your will, open a way for them to have this time together at the beach tomorrow, even in a simple and inexpensive way, and let it bring refreshment and gratitude. If the way does not open, give them contentment and another opportunity for joy together that does not burden them. Teach them to cast their cares on You, to be of one mind in love and humility, and to find their deepest cheer in Christ. Provide for their daily needs and help them to steward well what You have given. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

Do not be discouraged if the picnic must be very plain. Often the simplest provision, shared with thanksgiving and prayer, brings more lasting joy than anything costly. Whether tomorrow or another day, seek first to rest in the Lord, give thanks for what you have, and enjoy the good gifts He has already placed around you. We will continue to pray that God encourages your hearts and supplies what you need.

This may sound silly but I wanted to take my family to have a picnic on the beach tomorrow because we need to be cheered up but I have limited funds and more necessities keep presenting themselves. Please pray somehow we would still be able to go. I'm trying to earn the money for it. Thank you.
