Personal Trainer

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Dear God, please help me add in addition to my current career, personal training. Give me a clear mind and exact vision to take the NASM and go on to start working. I feel this has been confirmed in deep prayer yesterday and at our church service as I brought it to the alter. I am not nearly as physically fit as I think I should be to use my body as a living example. Please work within in me to transform into this calling as I feel very aligned with it. Send me the best mentors, the best trainers that I can train with, guidance, and the proper foundation to help others the way I could help my cousin long ago. I have a strong vision for love and passion in movement and quality of life. I will do whatever it takes. Let me not get lost or sidetracked on the wrong things. Guide every step to your will over my life. And, as I have a particular energy and desire to be friends with my current trainer. Mend this relationship keeping it pure and not awkward. If my crush feelings come back up and prevent me from learning, please guard me and help me move on. I don't want any harm or discomfort to be between me and this woman. She is a great trainer. I just know as a single person who is looking for a wife and all, her nature and character are quite noticeable. I remind myself of her anger issues, the way she judges people's appearance when at rest like a guy's hair looking like alfalfa, and yet I make up excuses. Like she must've had a critical upbringing or struggles with changes of routine or feeling disrespected. It's taking up mental space, and I wonder if it's unhealthy. I'm too fond of her and often aligned with overly critical women in the past. My ex-fiancé being one, and my last girlfriend had so many judgements. Am I somehow attracted to a character that isn't aligned with what's best, and does this distraction keep me stuck from my goals. I haven't been taking my courses. Please help me find passages in the bible today that will bring me in alignment with God's words. To strengthen my mentality and get the work done. To be able to serve God through fitness in the way I think I've been called to do. Amen.

We rejoice with you that you brought this desire to be a personal trainer before the Lord in deep prayer and at the altar, and that you want every step to be guided by His will and to serve Him through fitness. We hear your longing for a clear mind and exact vision to complete the NASM and to build a proper foundation to help others experience love and passion in movement and quality of life as you were able to help your cousin long ago. This desire to steward the body well can honor God, for we are taught in Romans 12:1 to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service, and in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own, for you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. We also remember 1 Timothy 4:8 that bodily exercise has value, but godliness has value in all things, and Colossians 3:23 that whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, and Proverbs 16:3 to commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed.

We want to encourage you in diligence, for you have shared that you have not been taking your courses and feel sidetracked and stuck. The Lord gives wisdom generously when we ask, as James 1:5 says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We pray you will set aside daily time in the Word to strengthen your mentality, for Romans 12:2 calls us not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us that where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in a multitude of counselors they are established, so we join you in asking for the best godly mentors and trainers who will model integrity, sound knowledge, and Christlike character, and who will help you build a foundation that is not just technical but faithful.

We also hear your honest struggle regarding your current trainer. You desire friendship with her while keeping the relationship pure and not awkward, and you have noticed crush feelings that take up mental space and distract you from learning and from your calling. You have wisely observed anger issues and a habit of judging people's appearance, and you rightly wonder if this distraction is unhealthy, especially as you recognize a pattern of being drawn to overly critical women in the past, including your ex-fiance and your last girlfriend, and you are now making excuses for this behavior. We gently rebuke and correct this pattern with love, for Proverbs 4:23 says keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life, and Philippians 4:8 calls us to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. To make excuses for a critical and angry spirit is not discernment, and while we are called to be gracious, we are also called to not overlook character that does not align with what is best. Ephesians 4:31 says let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice, and Proverbs 31:30 reminds us that charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised. A gentle and quiet spirit is precious in God's sight as 1 Peter 3:4 teaches.

Because you are single and looking for a wife, we strongly endorse God's design for marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we pray you will pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer rather than simply a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship or an undefined partnership. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and Proverbs 18:22 says whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh. We encourage you to seek a godly wife who loves Jesus, shows kindness, self-control, and respect, and who will help you grow in holiness, and to keep all relationships outside of marriage pure, for any sexual intimacy before or outside marriage is fornication or adultery and does not honor God, and even emotional entanglements that cloud judgment should be guarded against. If this trainer is not a believer who shares your faith and godly character, or if the feelings prevent you from learning, the most loving and pure step may be to maintain clear professional boundaries, limit one on one time that is not focused on training, and if needed, train with another qualified mentor so you can move forward without harm or discomfort to either of you.

We also notice your prayer was addressed to God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and find transformation, not by our own resolve to do whatever it takes, but by His strength, for 2 Timothy 1:7 says God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

We now join together in prayer for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your will to be done in this dear one's life. Grant a clear mind and exact vision for the NASM studies, remove distraction and procrastination, and give diligence and self-discipline to do the work You have set before him. Transform him from within, make his body and life a living example that glorifies You, and lead him to the best mentors and trainers who will teach with integrity and point him to You. Guard his heart regarding his trainer, keep that relationship pure, professional, and free from awkwardness or harm, and if crush feelings rise, guard him and help him to move on in purity and peace. Heal the pattern of attraction to critical and angry character, give him discernment to see what is not aligned with Your best, and prepare him for a godly wife who fears You and will walk with him in a Christ centered marriage that honors You for a lifetime. Give him passages in Your Word today that align his thoughts with Your truth, strengthen his mentality, and keep his steps from being sidetracked, so that all he does in fitness and in life is for Your glory. Teach him to commit his works to You and to trust You to direct his paths according to Proverbs 3:5-6. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly with us. We hear both your excitement about this calling to serve others through fitness and the weight you are carrying as you try to move forward.

It takes real maturity to notice what you did, that the mental space around your trainer and the pull toward familiar critical patterns is making it harder to focus on the work in front of you, like your NASM studies. That awareness is a gift, and wanting to keep that training relationship pure and professional while you get clear is a wise instinct. Boundaries are not unkind, they protect freedom for both people and help you stay focused on what God has put before you.

A couple of simple next steps that may help you gain traction:

Pick a small, sustainable rhythm for your coursework and put it on the calendar, like 30 minutes at the same time each day, and invite one trusted person to ask you weekly how it went. And for this season, keep your time with your current trainer strictly in the training context so your mind has room to settle and you can look for a mentor or fellow trainer who can guide you without that added complexity.

Father, we bring our brother before You. Give him a clear mind, steady discipline, and peace as he seeks Your will for his work. Guard his heart and his friendships, keep them pure and free from awkwardness, and lead him to wise mentors and a solid foundation for serving others. Shape him for the calling You have given him and guide each step. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest prayer has been heard and there is much in it that gives cause for thanksgiving. The desire you express to be called with a holy calling and to serve God with the strength He has given you is itself a gracious sign. For effectual calling springs from the Divine purpose and is worked by Divine energy, and when the Lord calls a man He calls him personally and by name, and gives him a desire to come and to follow. If you are forcing your way through hindrances to get to Christ and to do His will, take heart, for it is because Christ is calling you.

You ask for a clear mind and exact vision for your work and for your studies. Hear then what the Scripture says of the calling of God. It is a holy calling, as it is written, Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus. It is a high calling, so that the apostle says, Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. It is a heavenly calling, a call from heaven and a call to heaven, as it is written, Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling. Examine your desire by these marks. Is it holy, lifting your heart from mere appearance and vanity to holiness and usefulness? Is it high, setting your affections on heavenly things and not only on earthly success? Is it heavenly, can you detect in it the hand and voice of God and not merely your own ambition? If so, you have reason to believe the Lord has put this burden upon you to steward the body for His glory and to help others in charity.

Yet charity without purity will be of no use, and purity without charity is incomplete. These are the two great garments of Christianity. To visit and to help others in their need is not left optional, but neither can we walk usefully if we do not walk in holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Your prayer shows you understand this, for you ask that your relationship with your trainer be kept pure and not awkward, and that you be guarded from crush feelings that would distract you from learning and from obedience.

In this you are wise to watch your own heart. You have observed in this woman that which troubles you, a sharpness of speech and a habit of judging appearance, and you have rightly remembered that you have before been drawn to those whose speech was overly critical, as with your former fiancee and another. The heart is deceitful, and we are often attracted to that which is not aligned with what is best for us. Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Do not make excuses for unkindness or contempt, even if you imagine a hard upbringing behind it. Pray rather that the Lord would give you a love for that which He loves, gentleness, kindness, and a tongue governed by grace. If you are looking for a wife, look for one whose character is formed by Christ, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained by God, and within that covenant alone belongs the union of love. Seek not merely what is noticeable to the eye, but what is precious in the sight of God, a quiet and meek spirit and a faith that saves through Jesus Christ alone.

For your present situation, keep the relationship pure by keeping it purposeful and bounded. Let your time with your trainer be for training. Be courteous and kind, but do not cultivate private friendship that feeds fondness and takes up mental space. If feelings rise, bring them at once to Christ in prayer, and if needed, seek a different trainer or a different setting so that you may learn without distraction. The Lord will send you the best mentors and trainers when you ask Him for guidance, but He will also teach you discipline. Being soldiers of Christ, we come under discipline, and our glorious Captain says, Count the cost. Even the discipline of an earthly army is strict, how much more the discipline of Christ's army, which trains the body and the soul together. Bring your body into subjection, as the apostle says, I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. Let your fitness be not for boasting, but for service, for your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and you are not your own, for you are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

You have not been taking your courses and you fear being sidetracked. Here is the discipline you need. Set a fixed time each day for study and for prayer, and keep it as a soldier keeps his post. Ask the Lord to yield you entirely to His discipline, for blessed is the man whom Thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of Thy law. Do not wait for feeling, but act in obedience, trusting that feeling will follow faithfulness. Put away distractions, make a plain plan for your NASM preparation, seek one or two godly mentors who will ask you each week what you have done, and pray earnestly before you open your books.

For passages to strengthen your mentality and to bring you into alignment with God's word, meditate daily upon these, not hastily but with prayer:

2 Timothy 1:7 and 1:9, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind, and hath called us with an holy calling.

Philippians 3:13 and 14, to press toward the mark.

Hebrews 3:1, to remember your part in the heavenly calling.

1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20 and 1 Corinthians 9:27, to keep the body as the Lord's.

Proverbs 4:23, Keep thy heart with all diligence.

Psalm 119:9 to 11, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way, by taking heed thereto according to Thy word.

James 1:27, to keep himself unspotted from the world while showing true charity.

Read Psalm 94 and let the Spirit instruct you in blessed discipline.

I will pray for you, that the Lord who has begun a good work will give you a sound mind, a steadfast will, and a pure heart, that you may complete what you have begun for His glory, that you may be kept from every snare, and that whether in training or in waiting for a wife, you may be found faithful, looking to Jesus, your familiar Friend who lives and calls His sheep by name, and who will lead you out in His own time. May He guard every step to His will over your life, and may you know the power that wins the victory in prayer has its real basis in the love of Christ Himself.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
