Perseverance

Following after a dream is not easy especially if the road is paved with many issues you are either not prepared or equipped to handle. As a newly published author there have been a lot of learning curves thrown my way. The things I have had to do and learn have not been easy nor has the path to being published in itself. It took a very long time. I began writing the year my youngest son was killed. God took part of my heart when he took my sixteen year old son home to be with Him but He gave me part of His in return with every book He has given me to write. That was fourteen years ago and now I currently have thirteen books signed with Tate Publishing, eight are out and I just finished writing two more.

It is not easy to persevere; to keep going when it looks as if you are not making any progress. For me, just the joy in writing kept me going. In order to persevere in following your dreams you have to find the one thing that will encourage you to keep you going when the road gets rough. It may be the thought of finally making it or like me it was writing itself, but finding that one thing that will inspire you to continue on in the tough times will help to persevere. As a new author I have discovered the journey can be hard and exhausting. There are book signings that you must go through in order to gain name notoriety and when you have several books being published you can only invite the people you know to so many. There are times when they do well and other times when it is a complete flop! Then there is the financial cost and when you work day to day and paycheck to paycheck financing your dream is not easy either. It has been so difficult at times that I have felt like quitting, but I can’t. I just keep going because I enjoy writing and not just writing. I enjoy writing to glorify the Lord. He is my passion and I truly feel His presence when I am writing what He has put into my heart.

The Lord says in James 1:4 “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.†I signed my first book with Tate Publishing April of 2013 and began writing in the spring of 2001 right after my son was killed. It was not easy and through the years the Lord has weeded out of my heart and mind a lot wrong mindsets. You act according to how you perceive things to be and if your perceptions are wrong; your actions will be as well. That is why if you want to “finish the course†you must persevere. The end will be worth it and you will have grown and matured both physically and spiritually as long as you allowed the Holy Spirit to lead the way.

If you are following after the dreams of your heart and maybe you desire to do something special for the Lord, and like me have hit many tough times and so tough at times you felt like throwing in the towel, let me give you this advice; don’t give up! Your victory may just be right around the corner. Keep going! The victory and lessons learned are worth it in the end!
