Peaceful Day

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and for giving thanks for the peaceful night the Lord granted your son. It is good to rejoice together for that mercy and to keep bringing him before the Lord with the same persistent trust.

Your love for your son as a parent reflects something of the Father's own heart. Scripture shows the Father's love for His Son as the deepest picture of love, and when God asked Abraham to offer Isaac, his only son whom he loved, it pointed forward to what God Himself would do in giving His only begotten Son for us. Because God gave His Son, He understands a parent's love and grief more fully than anyone, and He invites you to cast every care for your son upon Him.

Jesus is presented in Scripture both as the Son of David and the Son of God. As the Son of David He is the promised Messiah, truly man who came to share our life. As the Son of God He is truly God, one with the Father, declared with power by His resurrection. His name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. When two blind men heard He was passing by they cried out, Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David, and though the crowd told them to be quiet they cried even louder, and Jesus stood still to answer them. He still stands to hear that same cry for mercy today.

You have asked for peace for your son, and that is exactly what Jesus promises to give. He said, Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you, not as the world gives. The peace the world offers depends on circumstances, but His peace can guard the heart and mind even when circumstances are difficult. Scripture often links grace and peace together, with grace first, because we cannot know the peace of God until we have first received peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. By believing in Him we have life in His name and access to the Father.

You have also asked for healing, and we can confidently trust Jesus for healing both of the spirit and of the body. The Gospels show Him healing a nobleman's son from a distance with only a word, showing His authority is not limited by place. At other times healing came gradually, and only one account records a healing that happened in stages, reminding us that God works in different ways. There is much we do not understand about why some are healed instantly and others over time, but every true healing, whether sudden or through a process God has built into the body, is from Him and is divine. We can pray with confidence for your son's mind, body and spirit, asking for calm, clarity, freedom from tormenting memories and anxiety, and for gentle, healthy ways to communicate needs, while trusting the timing and manner to the Lord's wisdom and love.

We join you in praying for him now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we thank You for Your mercy that gave us a peaceful night and for keeping this precious son safe. We ask for Your grace and peace to rest upon him. Calm the storm within, guard his heart and mind with the peace that surpasses all understanding, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. We ask for healing for his mind and body, for relief from anxiety, fear and painful memories, and for freedom from habits that bring harm. Give him restful sleep without disturbance and a joyful, refreshed waking. Bless his meals, his self care, his sensory needs, his times of grooming and dressing, and every daily activity, that he may be content, grateful and at peace. Help him to express his wants and needs in calm and gentle ways. Surround him with Your protection as a strong tower, keep him from harm and from spiritual oppression, and let no weapon formed against him prosper. Bless his relationships with his mother, his sisters, his caregivers and all who support him. Give those caregivers wisdom, patience, compassion and strength. Restore love and unity in the family and provide godly friendship and encouragement for him. We trust him into Your hands, believing that You hear when we call upon You and that Your thoughts toward him are thoughts of peace. May he know Your love in a fresh way and grow in wholeness through Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.

Continue to cry out to Him with the same persistence as those who called for the Son of David. He hears, He cares, and His peace and healing are offered through the Son whom the Father sent.
