We join you in praising God and we lift you up together before His throne, asking Him to pour out His peace upon you in this season of deep hurt.
We hear the pain in your words, that your purpose and sense of humanity feel stripped away by what you endured in your past relationship. We want to remind you of what God says is still true about you. You are made in the image of God, Genesis 1:27, and you are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14. No person and no painful relationship can erase the value God placed on you, and no hurt can cancel the purpose He has for your life. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them, Ephesians 2:10. And we know His thoughts toward you remain good, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11.
We also hear your cry for justice, and we bring that cry to the Lord who is a God of justice and truth. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and heals those who are crushed in spirit, Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. He sees all that was done to you, He does not overlook it, and His justice is perfect. As it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord, Romans 12:19. We encourage you to place the need for justice fully in His hands, trusting Him to act righteously in His time, and to free your heart from the burden of carrying vengeance yourself. This does not mean what happened did not matter, it means we trust the righteous Judge to make all things right while we seek to forgive as Christ forgave us, so that bitterness does not take root.
The peace you are asking for is exactly what Jesus promised to give. He said, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful, John 14:27. That peace comes as we bring everything to Him in prayer, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. And as you keep your mind stayed on Him, You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you, Isaiah 26:3.
We also want to gently speak to the area of relationships, since the wound came from there. God designed relationships and courtship to honor Him and to lead toward marriage between a man and a woman who are believers in Christ, a lifelong covenant. When relationships fall outside that design, including intimacy outside of marriage which Scripture calls fornication, hearts are often left wounded and stripped as you describe. If any part of that past relationship involved sin, whether done by you or against you, we encourage you to bring it to the Lord for His forgiveness and cleansing, for He is faithful to restore and make new. And as God heals you, we pray that any future courtship will be centered on Christ and aimed toward a godly marriage that honors Him.
We now pray together for you.
Father in heaven, we thank You that our brother in Christ has come to You in Jesus' name, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to You, and there is no other name by which we are saved, Acts 4:12 and John 14:6. We praise You that You are our refuge and our healer. We ask You to pour out Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding over this dear soul, to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Where he feels stripped of purpose and humanity, restore to him the knowledge of his worth in You and the purpose You have prepared for him. Bind up his wounds, heal his broken heart, and renew his mind day by day. We place his cry for justice before Your throne, asking You to act justly, to vindicate according to Your righteousness, and to help him to release vengeance to You and walk in forgiveness and freedom. Lead him forward in wholeness, guide his steps into the good works You have for him, and in Your timing, if it is Your will, lead him to a godly marriage that reflects Your love. We ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
