We join you together in the name of Jesus Christ in asking our Heavenly Father for His peace and wisdom and direction, and we thank you for coming in that precious and powerful name by which we have access to God and by which we are saved.
We know how weary the heart and mind can become when peace feels distant and sleep will not come, and when we long for clear direction. The Lord invites us to bring every anxious thought to Him. As it is written, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7. And again, You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. Isa 26:3. This is not a peace that depends on our circumstances, but a guarding peace that comes from trusting Him.
For wisdom and direction we are encouraged to ask boldly, for our Father loves to give it. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We are also called to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Prov 3:5-6. As we acknowledge Him and seek His will above our own, He promises to lead us.
For sleep, we remember that rest is a gift from His hand. It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, to eat the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones. Psalm 127:2. And we can pray with confidence, In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. Psalm 4:8.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You pour out Your perfect peace upon this heart and mind, that You would quiet every anxious thought and guard this heart with the peace that surpasses all understanding. Grant wisdom liberally as You have promised, and give clear direction for each step ahead, making the path straight before You. We ask that You grant sweet and deep sleep, that You would allow this one to lie down in peace and safety under Your watchful care. Help us to keep our minds steadfast upon You and to trust You with all our hearts. We cast all our cares upon You because You care for us. Your request for peace and wisdom and direction and for restful sleep has been heard and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Lord has promised a keeping power to those who trust Him. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. This is not a peace that the world can give, for the peace of the world is often only a false calm. The true peace is the peace which Jesus Christ has bought with His own blood, and which the Holy Spirit works in the soul. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and to do the will of Jesus is rest even when duties press and sorrows surge around.
You ask also for direction and wisdom. This is a prayer God delights to answer. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally. When human wisdom is spent and we come to a dead stand, then Divine Wisdom appears. Wait upon the Lord, stay your mind upon Him, seek His will in His Word, and He will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. He who is made wise unto salvation has received that wisdom which gives life to them that have it, and He will guide you step by step as you trust Him.
And you ask to be able to sleep. This also is a gift from the hand of our Father, for so He giveth His beloved sleep. That sleep is the sleep of a quiet conscience made right with God through Christ, the sleep of contentment and of security in His keeping. Cast your cares upon Him before you lie down, confess all that burdens you, and leave both yourself and your loved ones in Jesus keeping, for there you are safe. He neither slumbers nor sleeps who watches over you.
We pray for you now, that the God of all peace will bless you with His own peace which passes all understanding, that He will grant you clear direction and heavenly wisdom for every decision before you, and that He will give you quiet and refreshing sleep as His beloved.
