Peace.

Disciple of Prayer
My husband has been becoming very impatient with me because I have been making silly mistakes due to pregnancy brain. Pray that I can do better about pleasing my husband, so he can have peace.

We hear your heart and we join with you in seeking the Lord together for peace in your marriage during this precious and tender season of pregnancy. We thank God for your marriage, for this lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that He has ordained, and we thank Him for the new life He is forming within you, for children are a heritage of Yahweh, the fruit of the womb is his reward, Ps 127:3.

We understand your desire to please your husband and to bring peace to your home, and that desire to honor your husband is good and biblical, for wives are called to respect and love their husbands, Eph 5:22, Col 3:18. Yet we want to gently encourage you and also speak truth about where true peace comes from. Your husband's peace cannot rest solely on your performance or your ability to avoid mistakes, and your worth is not measured by perfection. The Lord knows your frame, He remembers that you are dust, Ps 103:14, and He gives grace for the weakness and forgetfulness and fatigue that often come with pregnancy. We encourage you to not be harsh with yourself, but to rest in His strength and to cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you, 1 Pet 5:7.

At the same time we must lovingly rebuke the impatience that has risen in your husband, for this is not the pattern God has given for husbands. Husbands are commanded to love their wives even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, Eph 5:25, and to live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered, 1 Pet 3:7. We read that husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them, Col 3:19, and that love is patient and is kind, 1 Cor 13:4. With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, Eph 4:2. Especially in this season when you are carrying his child and your body and mind are under great strain, he is called to cherish you, to be gentle, to bear with you in love, and to be your protector and encourager, not one who adds burden. We pray he will see this as an opportunity to grow in Christlike patience and tenderness.

We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and peace with God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved, Rom 10:9. It is by His name we pray, and it is in His name we find true peace that surpasses all understanding, Phil 4:7.

So we pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear wife and her husband and their unborn child to You. Lord, we thank You for this marriage and for this child You are knitting together. We ask You to pour out Your grace upon this sister, to quiet her heart when she feels she is failing, to remind her that Your strength is made perfect in weakness, 2 Cor 12:9, and that You do not condemn her for silly mistakes. Give her rest, give her Your peace, and help her not to be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let her requests be made known to You, Phil 4:6. Father, we also lift up her husband, and we ask You to soften his heart and fill him with Your Spirit, that he may be patient, kind, and understanding. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, to speak gently, to encourage, and to bear with her in love. Let him be the source of comfort and security for her in this vulnerable time. We pray that You would give them both Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:7, and that their home would be marked by grace, forgiveness, and joy as they prepare to welcome this child. Help them to communicate openly, to pray together daily, and to extend to each other the same mercy You have extended to us. We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to share openly with your husband how you are feeling, not in fear but in love, and to invite him to pray with you each day for patience and peace. Rest when you can, extend grace to yourself as God does, and trust that as you both seek Christ first, He will establish peace in your home far more than striving for perfection ever could.

We hear how much you want a peaceful home right now, and how heavy it feels when you make a small mistake and sense your husband's impatience. Pregnancy can affect memory and focus in real ways, and it does not mean you are failing as a wife.

Wanting to please your husband comes from a good place, but peace in a marriage is something you build together, not something you have to earn by being perfect. Both of you are adjusting to a big change, and tiredness and stress can make anyone quicker to react.

One small step that often helps is to talk about this outside the moment a mistake happens. When you are both calm, you could share simply what pregnancy brain feels like for you day to day, and what kind of response helps you most when you forget something. Asking him how he is feeling too can open the door for more understanding on both sides. Learning to name feelings clearly and check what each other heard can lower the static that builds when you are both under pressure. If forgetfulness or fatigue worries you, it is also good to mention it at your next prenatal visit, alongside prayer.

You are carrying a lot right now and we are holding you both in prayer.

Father, we thank You for this wife and for the new life You have entrusted to her. Give her rest and strength, and give her husband patience and gentle understanding in these months. Help them to speak kindly to each other, to extend grace quickly, and to find peace together in You. Guard their home and draw them closer as they prepare for this child. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request and we bring you before the Lord with tenderness and care. The season of bearing a child is one of great wonder and also of great weakness of body and mind, and the Lord who formed you knows your frame and remembers that you are dust. That you forget things or make small mistakes in these months is not a failure before God, and it does not make you less pleasing to Him.

We want to gently lift a burden from you. Peace in a home and peace in a heart does not come from perfectly pleasing a husband or from never making a mistake. The Scripture says, You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. True peace, perfect peace, is found as our minds rest upon Christ and His finished work, not upon our own performance. Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing unto God, but through faith in Jesus Christ, by His blood, even sinners are made complete in Him and well pleasing in His sight. Your acceptance with God does not rise and fall with your daily slips, but stands firm in Christ.

This is not to say that love in marriage does not seek to serve. It does. Yet the Word lays a tender charge upon both husband and wife. Husbands are called to dwell with their wives with understanding and to love them as Christ loves the church, with patience and gentleness, especially in seasons of weakness. Wives are called to love and respect their husbands, but never to carry alone the weight of creating peace for the household by flawless performance. Peace comes when both turn to Christ together and learn to bear with one another in love, forgiving as the Lord has forgiven.

So we pray not simply that you would try harder to please your husband, but that the Lord would pour His grace and peace into your home, and that both of you would know His sustaining help.

Let us pray together.

Our gracious Father, we thank You for this sister and for the life You have knit together within her. We thank You for marriage, which You have ordained, and for Your design that husband and wife would find rest in You and in one another. Lord, we ask You to grant to this dear one a quiet confidence that she is loved and pleasing to You through Jesus Christ, not through perfect performance. Guard her heart from fear and from the thought that she must earn peace by never failing. Give her rest, give her strength for each day, and give her joy in the midst of weariness.

We pray also for her husband. Grant him a double portion of patience, tenderness and understanding. Help him to see the great work her body is doing and to love her as You love us, with forbearance and kindness. Let Your peace, which passes all understanding, keep both their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Make their home a place of grace, where mistakes are met with gentleness and where both are quick to forgive and to encourage.

Above all, keep their minds stayed upon You, that they may know that perfect peace which the blood of Jesus whispers within, even when duties press and sorrows surround. May grace and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ rest upon this household now and in the months to come. In the name of Jesus our Savior and Husband and Friend we ask it. Amen.
