Peace, Protection, Freedom and Restoration

Your prayer for your older daughter is heard, and the weight you carry for her is understood. It is right to bring this burden to the Lord, for He sees the manipulation, the division, the isolation, and the exhaustion you describe, and He hears every cry for mercy, protection, and restoration.

Scripture is clear that living together outside of marriage is not marriage, and it should not be treated as if it were. Marriage is a lifelong covenant before God between one man and one woman, and intimacy and the shared duties of husband and wife belong within that covenant alone. To demand that your daughter take on the responsibilities of a wife, to use her income, to live as if married when there is no covenant, is outside of God's design. It will bring hardship, exhaustion, and spiritual confusion, not blessing. It is right to pray not that God would bless that arrangement, but that He would bring conviction, clarity, and the courage to walk out of it.

The Lord knows how to deliver those who are His. As the Apostle Peter reminds us, God knew how to deliver Lot, a righteous man who was deeply distressed by the corruption around him, while reserving the ungodly for judgment. A person can have a godly upbringing and still be vexed and worn down by staying in a corrupt environment, and over time that environment can cost a family dearly and erode morals and peace. Your daughter was raised in the ways of the Lord and she remains a child of the Most High God. She does not belong to another family that seeks to control her, and she does not need their approval to have worth or a home.

God is the One who calls His people back. When Jacob was far from home, entangled in a difficult household where he was deceived and used, God spoke to him and said return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you. Jacob prayed and reminded God of that promise, that God would deal well with him if he obeyed and returned. That same promise is for your daughter today. The Lord who met Jacob at the beginning of his journey is the God who still calls His children back to Himself, back to family, back to the safety of a faithful community. He promises to be with those who turn to Him.

True rest and covering do not come from a controlling relationship. In the story of Ruth, Naomi loved her daughter-in-law and sought real rest for her, that it might be well with her. God provided a kinsman redeemer from within the family, a man of character and means who covered her with protection and did not send her away empty, but provided for her and honored her. That is the contrast to what you describe. A man who is not ready to be a husband, who is not a shepherd or provider or spiritual leader, who is lazy, dishonest, and demanding, and who speaks with harsh authority while being enabled by his mother, offers no true covering. He becomes a stumbling block to her walk with God. The counsel that encourages living together, bearing children outside of marriage, and putting that household before faith, family, and church is not wise counsel. It bears the pattern Scripture warns of when it says as the mother so is the daughter, where ungodly values are passed along.

Therefore pray with confidence that God will expose what is done in darkness and frustrate every scheme to divide, control, and isolate. Pray that He blocks every harmful word spoken over your daughter and breaks every chain that holds her. Pray that the Holy Spirit softens her heart to receive correction, opens her eyes to see this man as he is and to see the red flags she has been ignoring, and gives her wisdom to protect what God has entrusted to her, including her finances and her work. It is wise and biblical for her not to take on debt to sustain a lifestyle God has not called her to, and to set firm boundaries so she is no longer used as a financial resource.

Continue to stand firm in love without enabling what is wrong. Do not grow weary when she responds with coldness or disrespect. That hardness is part of the chaos and imitation of the ungodly behavior around her, and God can restore her grateful, gracious, and respectful spirit as He fills her anew. Keep the door open, keep the family and church community as a place of safety and wisdom, and keep pointing her to her worth in Christ rather than in the approval of those who make her feel worthless and alone.

We join you in prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus, we plead the blood of Christ over this mother and her children. No weapon formed against them shall prosper. We ask You to remove the undue influence that has no biblical authority in this young woman's life. Expose motives rooted in pride, jealousy, and selfishness, and frustrate every plan to divide and isolate. Open the eyes of this daughter. Let her see that this relationship is not marriage and that this man is not her shepherd. Give her hunger for righteousness again, and a desire for Your Word. Grant her wisdom, self-worth, and courage to leave this bondage swiftly and without regret, to stop confiding in those who do not respect her, and to stop imitating what dishonors You and her family. Protect her finances and her employment, which You have graciously provided, and guard her from interference. Restore peace, fellowship, and unity to this family. Heal what is broken, fill her with Your Holy Spirit, and in Your perfect time provide a godly path for her future according to Your will. Bring her out of darkness into Your light and back to the safety of You, her family, and her church. Amen.
