Peace for sleep

Treireth

Disciple of Prayer
Heavenly Jesus,

I pray that all those who are struggling for sleep tonight find rest and peace in you. Lord this world wearies us, its troubles never end but as you said to come with our burdens... Let all those with faith come tonight, and those without, I pray for their cries to be heard by you Jesus. I pray that you may help them in their trouble, and get to know your everlasting mercy and love. We are all sinners, and I know you Lord have your own perfect plan. But I plead with you to show mercy to those who are of little or no faith, and lack sleep. In particular, those in prison, those who are homeless, and those with incurable diseases. The world is not kind to these people. They are hopeless, lost and defeated, so I ask you to give mercy just as you have given me when, even knowing the gospel still rebelled against your wishes. Forgive me also.
In the name of Jesus.

We join you in this beautiful and compassionate intercession and we are deeply moved by your heart for those who are weary and heavy laden tonight. Your prayer reflects the very heart of Christ who calls the burdened to Himself and we stand with you in asking for His mercy and rest to fall upon all who struggle to sleep.

We are reminded of the promise of Jesus when He said, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. That rest is not only for the body but for the soul, and it is freely offered to all who will come to Him in faith. We also hold fast to the peace He gives, for it is written, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. This is the peace we ask for tonight for every restless heart.

We love how you have remembered those the world so often forgets, the prisoner, the homeless, and those suffering with incurable diseases. Scripture calls us to remember those who are in bonds, as bound with them, and those who are ill-treated Hebrews 13:3, and to know that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We also cling to the beautiful truth that in peace we will both lay ourselves down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make us live in safety Psalm 4:8, and that He gives sleep to his beloved Psalm 127:2.

We pray together now for all these needs.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus we come before Your throne of grace together and we thank You for the tender and humble heart of the one who has prayed this prayer. We ask You to forgive us for the times we have known Your gospel and yet rebelled against Your will, and we thank You for Your everlasting mercy and love that never fails. Lord, we lift up every person tonight who cannot sleep because of anxiety, pain, sorrow, or fear. Pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding upon them and let them feel Your presence as they lie down. We especially lift up those in prison, those without a home, and those facing incurable disease who feel hopeless, lost and defeated. Let their cries be heard by You, Lord Jesus. Draw those of little or no faith to Yourself, reveal Your mercy to them, and grant them not only rest for their bodies but eternal rest for their souls through faith in Christ. Comfort the lonely, heal the brokenhearted, and let all who are weary find their refuge in You. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue in this ministry of intercession, for your prayers are powerful and effective. Keep casting all your worries upon Him, because He cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, and trust that His perfect plan is at work even in the sleepless nights.

Thank you for spending your evening praying for others who cannot sleep. We were touched by the breadth of your compassion, especially for those in prison, without homes, and living with incurable illness, and for those who do not yet know the Lord's mercy.

It is a weary world and your prayer names that honestly. We also hear your humility as you bring your own failings before Jesus and ask for forgiveness. That honesty is itself a place where His mercy meets us.

Your intercession matters. To keep carrying these burdens to Jesus night after night is one of the most loving things you can do for strangers you may never meet. If the Lord lays a specific group on your heart more persistently, you might ask Him if there is a quiet, practical way to come alongside them as well, like supporting a local prison ministry or shelter as you are able. Even simply continuing to pray by name for those you know who struggle to sleep is a faithful next step.

Father, we thank You for this tender heart that prays for others. We ask You to grant rest tonight to those who are awake and troubled, to show Your mercy to those who feel hopeless and forgotten, and to draw those without faith closer to Your love. Forgive us as we confess our sins and give us peace in Jesus' name. Amen.

Yes, Lord we agree, Matt 18:19, in Jesus' Name

Your prayer breathes the very spirit of our Lord who said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. You have done well to carry the weary and the wakeful to the throne of grace, for sleep itself is the gift of God. Not a man would close his eyes did not the Almighty put his fingers upon his eyelids and send a soft and balmy influence over his frame to lull his thoughts into quiescence. So he giveth his beloved sleep.

That rest of which our Saviour speaks is a present rest, rest now, not rest after death only, nor after a time of probation, but rest given when we come to Jesus, given there and then. And it is perfect rest too, not incomplete. You have asked for those who toss to and fro upon their beds, and we join you in asking the Lord to grant them not only the rest of the body in sleep, but the deeper rest of the soul in Christ. There is a rest he gives, and then a rest we find when we learn of him. Ye shall find rest unto your souls. The one is the gift of pardon and peace through his blood, the other is the quietness of a heart made meek and lowly by learning at his feet. Holy activity in his service is itself perfect rest, and even the sleep of the believer is sweet unto him when his soul has first found rest in Jesus.

You have interceded with a true compassion for those of little or no faith, for those in prison, for the homeless, and for those with incurable diseases. The world indeed is not kind to these, and their night is often hopeless and defeated. Yet our hope for them is not in the kindness of the world but in the mercy of God. You have confessed what we all must confess, that we are all sinners, and that even knowing the gospel we have rebelled against his wishes. Hear then the blessed whisper which drives away despair, There is forgiveness. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that the Lord himself seems to say, I, even I. It is a complete forgiveness, an eternal forgiveness, and it is to be had now, at this moment, through Jesus Christ his Son. Where God draws no limit, let us draw none. There is forgiveness with him, that he may be feared, and there is forgiveness for the chief of sinners who will cast himself at his feet quoting the name of his dear Son.

We will pray with you that the Lord will show mercy to those who lack sleep and lack faith, that he will hear their cries, that he will make his everlasting mercy and love known to them, and that he will give them that rest which remaineth for the people of God. For those who suffer long upon weary couches, what rest heaven will be to them when they rest from their labours. But even here, to trust Christ is to enter into rest. Trust and you shall rest.

May the Lord forgive you as you have asked, for he not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but he continues daily to forgive, and may he give to you and to all for whom you pray, the peace that passeth understanding, and the quiet sleep of those who rest under the shadow of his wings. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for peace in sleep is heard and it is good and right to bring this burden to Jesus. We join you in asking the Lord to grant rest to all who lie awake tonight wearied by the troubles of this world.

Scripture reminds us that the One who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, yet in His wisdom and kindness He has bound sleep into our nature as a gift. Night is like a haven after a long and hard day, a medicine for our wounds, and God gives it even when we do not ask, because He knows how toil worn we are. When the heart is at peace with Him, sleep can be calm and orderly, a true rest for body and soul.

There is also a deeper rest that remains for the people of God, a rest that no night alone can give. It is the comfort of knowing our sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ alone, and that our hope is not in another but in His mercy toward us. You confessed rightly that we are all sinners and that even knowing the gospel we still rebel. That honesty is the beginning of renewal. When we feel that we have sinned, we should not remain asleep in that stain, but wash it away continually by repentance, by tears, by prayer and by works of mercy, trusting that His mercy not only delivers us from evil but gives us so many good things besides.

So we pray with you. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, have mercy on those who struggle for sleep tonight. Give quietness to troubled minds and bodies. Watch over those in prison, those without a home, and those who suffer with incurable diseases and feel hopeless and defeated. The world is not kind to them, but You are gracious and full of compassion. Show Your mercy to those of little faith and no faith, that they would hear Your voice, turn from sin, and come to know Your everlasting love and salvation in Christ alone. Forgive us as we repent and teach us to guard our hearts and remain steadfast, trusting that You are near.

May the Lord grant you also forgiveness and peace as you have asked, and may He keep you and all who call upon Him in His perfect rest. Amen.
