Peace and rest

Your prayer for peace and rest reveals a deep longing that God fully understands. When our bodies or those we love signal that something is wrong, fear can rush in and steal the calm we desperately need. Yet the Lord offers a peace that is not just the absence of trouble, but a steady, unshakable confidence in Him. This begins with being at peace with God through Jesus Christ. By His blood, the war caused by our sin has ended. You are not condemned; you belong to Him, and nothing can separate you from His love.

But even a child of God can live without experiencing the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. That peace comes when we stop trying to carry the weight ourselves and instead hand everything over to Him. Perfect peace is promised to the mind that is stayed on the Lord, that trusts fully in Him. When you look only at the situation, anxiety grows. When you look to Jesus, you find rest. He invites you to cease from your own frantic efforts, just as He rested from His finished work on the cross. Your healing may come in the way you hope, or in another way, but the rest He gives is found right now in abandoning the outcome to Him.

For your friend with similar symptoms, the same truth holds. You can intercede and stand in faith together, knowing that Jesus ever lives to make intercession for us. He does not condemn; He upholds. The world looks for rest in a clean diagnosis or in circumstances lining up, but such peace is fragile. The rest God provides is deep and unbreakable because it rests on the sure cornerstone, Christ Himself. The wicked are like a troubled sea that cannot settle, but those who belong to Him can know a calm harbor even when storms rage.

Fear the Lord and depart from evil, and it will be health to your body and marrow to your bones. The fear of the Lord is not terror but a reverent trust that hates evil and clings to Him. As you honor Him with your concerns, you will discover that His wisdom is peaceable and gentle, bringing rest to your soul. May this day be filled with His mercy, not because you have no trial, but because you are held by the One who ordains peace for you. Rest your case fully in His hands, and let His peace guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
