We have heard your request and we are lifting you and your whole family before the Lord together in Jesus name. We understand how unsettling it is to receive a strange message from your father and to not know what is happening between your parents, and how exhausting it has been for you and your siblings to live in the middle of a dysfunctional marriage. We cast all your worries on Him because He cares for you as it says in 1 Peter 5:7, and we ask the Lord to guard your heart with His peace.
We want to share what Scripture teaches about marriage and family. We believe marriage is a sacred lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, created by God for His glory. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. God's design is for husbands and wives to love and honor one another, to put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:31-32. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection, Colossians 3:14. When that design is not followed, the whole household suffers, and children grow weary, which is what you are experiencing. We pray your parents will turn to the Lord in true humility and seek to love each other as Christ loves the church, not in confusion but in truth and obedience.
You mentioned that both of your parents believe they are Christians but are actually very confused. We say this with love and concern, it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and that anyone can be truly saved. We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you of this truth because there is no other hope. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To be a Christian is more than believing in a general way, it is to repent of sin, to believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and to confess Him as Lord. If anyone confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, they will be saved, Romans 10:9. We pray that both your mother and father will examine their hearts and come to a genuine saving faith in Jesus, and that their marriage will be built on that solid Rock rather than on confusion.
We also pray for you as their child. God calls us to honor our father and mother, Exodus 20:12, even when the relationship is difficult, and at the same time He invites us to bring our anxieties to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest, Matthew 11:28.
Together we pray, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this family to You. You see this dad and mom and their children, You know the message that was sent and any conflict that may be happening between them. We ask that You bring Your truth and Your peace into that home. Convict both parents where there is sin, pride, anger or unforgiveness, and draw them to true repentance and faith in Jesus. Heal their marriage and help them to love, cherish, forgive and honor one another as You have commanded. Protect these children from bitterness and exhaustion and give them wisdom to respond with grace, respect and healthy boundaries while still honoring their parents. Give this dear one who requested prayer discernment to know how to reach out to their dad with love and calm, and comfort them while they wait for answers. Let Your will be done in this family and let Your name be glorified. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to seek the Lord in prayer for wisdom before you respond to your dad, to speak the truth in love and to avoid being drawn into taking sides. If it is safe and possible, a calm and loving reply asking if he is okay and if you can help may open the door for clarity. Continue to pray for your parents daily, and if there is a mature pastor or biblical counselor you trust, consider seeking their guidance for how to navigate this ongoing strain. We will continue to keep you and your family in prayer, trusting that God is at work even when things feel confusing and exhausting.
