Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing something so deep and painful. The hurt that comes from childhood can stay with us for a long time, and it is right to bring that pain to the Lord and ask for His healing.
Scripture shows us that Jesus has power over every kind of brokenness. He healed the leper with a touch, He healed from a distance with only a word, He lifted Peter's mother in law from her fever, and in the evening crowds brought to Him the sick and those oppressed spiritually and He healed many. Matthew connects this to the prophecy in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 4, that He Himself bore our griefs and carried our sicknesses. That word for griefs can also be translated infirmities. In communion we remember that His body was broken for us, and that His suffering covers both our spiritual need for forgiveness and our physical and emotional need for healing.
At the same time, there is much about healing that we do not fully understand. Sometimes Jesus healed instantly, sometimes healing came gradually, as with the blind man who at first saw men like trees walking before his sight became clear. Sometimes He touched, sometimes He only spoke. He is not confined to one pattern. All true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the slow processes He has built into our bodies. Those natural processes are still divine, because He is the one who created nature and its ability to mend. And His healing is not only physical. He also heals the mind and the emotions, the deep scars and wounds that painful experiences leave behind.
We also live in a world that is broken because sin entered through Adam. Pain, sorrow, sickness and death were not part of God's original design. They are the indirect result of living in a fallen, corrupted world. That does not mean your pain is your fault or that God is punishing you. Good people suffer, and often there is no simple cause and effect. Paul the apostle prayed three times for the Lord to remove what he called a thorn in the flesh, and the Lord did not remove it in the way Paul asked. This teaches us not to presume that God wills instant healing in every case in this life, even though we know He is able and He does heal today. We can trust His compassion while also trusting His wisdom.
What we do know is that God sees your pain and He cares. He knows what it is to carry grief, and He invites you to bring your wounds to Him. And we have a sure hope for the future, that a day is coming when He will wipe away every tear, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain, for the former things will have passed away. In that day, when Jesus reigns fully, we will know what life was meant to be when hearts are wholly centered on Him.
I am praying for you now, that the Lord Jesus would touch the place of pain rooted in your childhood. I pray He would bring healing to your body, your mind and your heart, whether in a moment or through a gradual work over time. I pray He would lift the weight of those early wounds, calm the memories that still hurt, and fill you with His peace and comfort. I pray He would show you His love in a very personal way, and give you strength for each day as you walk with Him. May you experience His presence as the one who bore your infirmities and who is able to make you whole.
