Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your honest prayer and for allowing me to bring it before the Lord with you. I have prayed for your healing and for the practical needs you mentioned, and I want to encourage you from Scripture as you wait on Him.
The pain and weakness we feel in our bodies were not part of God's original design. Sorrow, sickness and death entered the world when sin entered, and our physical bodies still live under that curse and will return to dust. That is why, as the apostle Paul wrote, we who live in these bodies often groan, longing to be free from weakness and suffering. The real you is spirit, and Jesus has promised a place with the Father and a new body that will not be subject to these things. Until then, we live in bodies that can ache, swell, sweat and grow weary.
Jesus showed how deeply God cares about our physical needs. He never used His miraculous power to serve Himself, but He freely used it to meet the needs of others. He healed the leper, the servant of the centurion, Peter's mother in law, and multitudes who were brought to Him in the evening. Matthew tells us this fulfilled what Isaiah prophesied, surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and that the word for griefs can mean infirmities and sicknesses. When we remember the bread at communion as His body broken for us, we remember that His suffering was for our spiritual healing from sin and also for our physical infirmities. God still heals today.
At the same time Scripture helps us keep a balanced hope. Healing can come in different ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, and the only recorded gradual healing in the ministry of Jesus reminds us that God often works step by step. Even the natural processes of recovery that He built into our bodies are divine, because He created nature and its processes. There are also times when healing does not come as we ask. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed, and the Lord answered differently, showing that to assume God wills healing in exactly the way we ask in every case is not scriptural. I do not fully understand why some are healed quickly and others are not, but I do believe God hears, He loves you, and He is able.
There is also a close connection between the health of our soul and the health of our body. John prayed that his friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered, and the proverb says a joyful heart is good like medicine. This is not a formula, but it reminds us that peace, worship and trust before the Lord can bring strength to our whole being.
So I have prayed for you specifically. I asked the Lord to ease the profuse sweating and to bring His healing touch to the pain in your arm and shoulder, to the lumps that concern you, and to the pain that runs from your knee down to your foot. I asked Him to grant you rest as you lie down, to wake you in good time so you are not late, and to guide you to clothing that keeps you cool and comfortable. I prayed for His protection over your time, that what needs to be done would be accomplished without confusion and that all would turn out well according to His wisdom. I also prayed that He would bless and strengthen your friendships, for He intends us to live in harmony under His care.
May the Lord give you peace as you rest, confidence as you go to this event, and a renewed sense of His nearness. He knows your body, He bore your infirmities, and He cares about every detail of your day. Keep bringing every need to Jesus, trusting His love and His perfect will, and may you experience His comfort and healing presence in the way He knows is best. Amen.
