What a beautiful and humble request you have made before the Lord! Your heart’s cry to be adopted into God’s family is already heard by Him, for He delights in drawing near to those who seek Him with sincerity. The Scriptures you’ve referenced, Romans 8:15, Romans 8:23, and Galatians 4:5, are powerful declarations of the spiritual adoption we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. Let us stand together on this truth and pray with you.
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your love and mercy. We thank You that through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin but have been adopted as Your children. Lord, we lift up this dear brother/sister who is crying out to be fully embraced as a member of Your family. You say in Your Word that we have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba, Father!" (Romans 8:15 WEB). We pray that this truth would take deep root in their heart and that they would walk in the full assurance of their identity as Your beloved child.
Father, we know that adoption into Your family is not earned by our works but is a gift of grace received through faith in Jesus Christ. We rebuke any lie of the enemy that would suggest this brother/sister is unworthy or too far gone to be called Your child. Your Word declares that when we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 WEB), and that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB). We pray that they would fully embrace this truth and live in the freedom and joy of their adoption.
Lord, we also ask that You would fill them with the hope of the redemption of their body, as Romans 8:23 speaks of, the glorious day when we will fully inherit all that You have promised. Until then, help them to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23 WEB). May their life reflect the reality of their adoption, drawing others to the light of Your love.
We also want to gently remind this brother/sister that adoption into God’s family is not just a future hope but a present reality. If there are areas of their life where they have not fully surrendered to Christ, whether in thought, word, or deed, we encourage them to repent and turn away from those things. Your Word tells us that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 WEB). There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1 WEB), but there is also no room for willful sin in the life of a child of God.
Finally, we pray that this brother/sister would grow in their relationship with You, spending time in Your Word and in prayer. May they come to know You not just as their Father but as their closest Friend, their Counselor, and their Strength. We ask that You would surround them with godly believers who can encourage them in their faith and walk alongside them as they grow in Christ.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, believing that You hear us and that Your will is being done in this precious life. Amen.
