Oppressed by fear

Please someone pray for me. I have been deeply oppressed by fear especially social anxiety. I know that we are called to fear God not man. We can’t be true servants of the Lord while wanting to please man and I know that but I still struggle with this intense fear and anxiety from past trauma. Please in the name of Jesus deliver me from this fear, worry, and anxiety. You have not given us a spirit of fear but of power, of love, and of a sound mind. In Jesus’ precious name amen.

We hear your cry and we join with you in Jesus' name for deliverance from this oppression of fear and anxiety, and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find freedom and peace.

We understand how heavy social anxiety and the fear of man can feel, especially when it is rooted in past trauma. You spoke truth when you said we are called to fear God and not man, and the Word confirms this, for Proverbs 29:25 says The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe. We want to encourage you that your struggle does not mean you are failing as a servant of the Lord, but that you are in a battle where the Lord wants to heal and strengthen you. He does not condemn you for feeling fear, He invites you to bring it to Him so He can deliver you.

The scripture you quoted is a powerful promise we claim with you, for 2 Timothy 1:7 says For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. That fear you feel is not from God. His perfect love is meant to cast it out, as 1 John 4:18 tells us There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. As you grow in knowing how deeply and perfectly He loves you, that love will drive out the fear that has oppressed you.

We also remember the promises that God is with you in this anxiety. Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. And Psalm 34:4 gives us hope for deliverance, I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. He is able to heal the wounds of past trauma that have taught your heart to be afraid of people, and to renew your mind day by day.

We encourage you to continue to bring every anxious thought to Him in prayer, and to let His Word renew your mind. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. When fear rises, speak His truth over it, seek fellowship with other believers who can support you, and consider walking with a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can help you process that past trauma in the light of God's grace.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the precious name of Jesus Christ. You see the oppression of fear and social anxiety and the pain of past trauma that still weighs on this heart. Lord, we ask for Your deliverance. We rebuke that spirit of fear and we ask You to fill this heart instead with Your power, Your love, and a sound mind. Let Your perfect love cast out all fear. Heal the wounds of the past, Lord, and show how safe and held this life is in Your hands. Teach us to fear You above all and to find our worth and approval in You alone, not in the opinions of man. Grant Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Strengthen, help, and uphold with Your righteous right hand, and lead into freedom to serve You with joy and boldness. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun. We hear how heavy this fear has felt, especially in social settings, and how much you want to be free to serve the Lord without that constant worry about what others think. Knowing what is true and still feeling gripped by anxiety is not a failure on your part, it is a painful tension many believers carry, especially when past trauma has left its mark.

What you describe makes sense to us. Anxiety touches the whole person at once, mind and body together, so it is not simply a matter of trying harder. That is why ongoing support matters as much as prayer.

One steady next step we encourage is to invite one trusted person to walk with you regularly, whether a pastor or a Christian counselor who can listen well and help you process the trauma at a gentle pace. If this fear and worry are interfering with daily life or sleep, or you notice physical symptoms like a racing heart or tension, it is also wise to check in with your primary care provider alongside prayer, just to care for your health well.

We are standing with you and bringing this to the Lord.

Father, we lift our brother to You and ask for Your nearness and peace over him. Quiet the fear and worry that oppresses him, heal what trauma has wounded, and give him wisdom and strength for each day. Lead him to the right support and help him know he is safe and loved in Christ. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Your cry under this heavy oppression of fear has been heard, and I take your burden to the throne of grace with you. You have spoken truly that we are called to fear God and not man, and that the fear of man brings a snare, yet you find as many of the Lord's people have found that to know the truth is one thing and to walk in the power of it in the midst of past wounds and present trembling is another. Do not think that your struggle has set you outside the love of Christ. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, and our gracious Lord knows how this fear has settled upon your soul like a dark cloud, making the company of others to feel as a terror.

Hear what the Lord says to such as you are. He says, Fear not, I am with thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. We must labor to get rid of fear as much as possible, for fear is weakening and fear dishonors God. Do you think that the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth shall ever be palsied toward you. He who has loved you will not forsake them that fear Him, and He never will do so. If you are drawn to the mercy seat even with a trembling heart, God is there too, for He loves the mercy seat better than you do.

Your hope is not in your own power to cast off this fear, for deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. In order to our sanctification and our deliverance we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone. The good news is that He is gracious and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance through a ransom if God had not thought of it, and He has found it in His own dear Son. It is Christ who says, Fear not, I am the first and the last, I am He that liveth and was dead, and behold I am alive for evermore. His wounds are the cure for your wounds, and His perfect love casteth out fear.

Therefore I pray for you that the Lord will fulfill His own word to you, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

O Lord our God, look upon this trembling one who is oppressed by fear and social anxiety and the memory of past trauma. Thou seest how the fear of man would swallow up thy servant, and how unbridled tongues and old sorrows have cut to the quick. Be gracious unto him and deliver him from going down to the pit. Thou hast found a ransom in the blood of Jesus, let that ransom be his peace. Give power where there is weakness, give love where fear has tormented, give a sound mind where worry has spun its web. Teach him to fear Thee alone, who after Thou hast killed hast power to cast into hell, and to rest in that holy fear which drives out all other fear. Send from heaven and save him from the reproach of him that would swallow him up. Make him to know that he is delivered from the power of darkness and that Thou wilt certainly help him in his daily troubles. Let him live and declare the works of the Lord, and find that when Thou chastenest, it is with a Father's hand, never to cast away. Keep back his soul from the pit and his life from perishing, and let him be free indeed, for whom the Son makes free is free indeed. In the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our help and our keeper, Amen.
