Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer to be led by God and not misled or distracted is a good and honest prayer, and God hears it when you call on Him through Jesus.
Scripture says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved and delivered. That promise is for you today. Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, and when you put your trust in Him, God cleanses you of sin, makes you His own, and gives you His Spirit. It is that new covenant that makes the difference. Under the old covenant the promise was, if you keep my commandments I will be your God and I will bless you. But none of us could keep it in our own strength. Through Jesus, God does what we could not do. He forgives, He changes the heart, and He puts His Spirit within you to give you power to walk in His ways. Because it is His work in you and not your own effort, His work will not fail. He is faithful to keep His word.
He also created you with the capacity of choice. You are not a robot. He gave you a will so that your relationship with Him could be real and meaningful. That means every day you have a choice about what will rule your mind. There is a constant struggle within, whether the mind will be governed by the Spirit and the things of the Spirit, or governed by the flesh and its desires. That is very practical in this season of meeting new people and thinking often about someone you have feelings for.
The way forward is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. A shepherd after God's own heart will always point you first to getting right with God, and then the other relationships find their right place. When you seek to get along with God first, He brings clarity to everything else.
So keep bringing this before Him. Ask Him to let His Spirit govern your thoughts when your mind drifts to your crush or when you consider dating someone one on one. Test each relationship by whether it helps you walk more closely with Jesus and whether it aligns with His calling on your life and with His design for marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, with purity and self control before marriage. Do not give place to the flesh, and do not let a distraction pull you away from Jesus Himself.
You can trust that if you keep calling on Him, He will answer and lead you. He has promised to be your God when you walk with Him, and through Jesus He has provided the Spirit to empower you to do so. Pray that His Word would be in your heart so that you may observe His ways, and that it may be well with you. He will guide your steps as you keep your heart open to Him above all else.
