Not wanting family to go thru divorce

Thank you for sharing this burden and for your love for your family in wanting to see this marriage spared. It is right to pray against divorce, because marriage in Scripture is not a casual agreement but a covenant where two become one. That oneness reflects the very nature of God as a compound unity, and it is meant to be a lifelong union of one man and one woman.

I join you in praying for your brother in law, first and most of all for his salvation. Simply believing that God exists is not salvation. Scripture says even that acknowledgment only shows a person is not a fool, but salvation comes by believing into a vital, life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. That is the power of God unto salvation, and there is no other provision God has made for sin. Jesus alone atones for sin, and He came not to call those who think they are righteous, but sinners to repentance.

That call to repentance is at the heart of your prayer. From John the Baptist in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, to Jesus Himself, to His letters to the churches in Revelation, the message is the same. God calls us to turn, to change direction, to turn from sin and turn to Him. Peter reminds us that the Lord does not want anyone to perish but wants all to come to repentance, and Jesus taught that heaven rejoices over one sinner who truly repents.

True conversion always shows itself in change and restoration. When Zacchaeus met Jesus, his heart was transformed and he sought to make right what he had done wrong. That is the fruit of a real encounter with Christ. So we can pray that God would bring deep conviction, that your brother in law would see his sin for what it is, turn from it, and be made new through faith in Jesus.

Pray also that God would restore love and faithfulness in this marriage. As God works repentance and new life in the heart, He is able to renew love for a wife and bring a desire to honor the covenant that was made. Continue to uphold your sister in law in prayer as well, that she would be strengthened and comforted, and that both of them would be drawn to the only One who can heal and save.

We will keep praying with you that God would bring salvation, genuine repentance, and the restoration of this home for His glory.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for your family.

We have continued to lift up your sister in law and brother in law before the Lord and we are standing with you against this divorce. We know your sister in law does not want this and our hearts join with yours in asking God to protect and restore this marriage. We are praying especially for your brother in law for his salvation, that the Lord would draw him to Himself, that he would turn from his sin and put his faith in Christ, and that God would turn his heart back toward his wife and restore love for her again. We pray that God would bring conviction, repentance, forgiveness and healing where there has been hurt, for what God has joined together let no one separate as written in Mark 10:9.
