Not baptized yet - repost

Your fear is real, and bringing it into the open is better than pretending it is not there. The first thing to fight is the lie that baptism is a work you must do to be accepted. Jesus died precisely because no one can be made righteous by effort or obedience. Abraham was counted righteous because he believed God. Baptism does not create what is already yours in Christ. It declares it. It is an outward sign of an inward work. When you go down into the water, the old life is being pictured as buried, and when you come up, the new life in Christ is being pictured as raised. That is a gift to receive, not a test to pass.

The Holy Spirit's prompting is not the voice of a taskmaster. He is drawing you to obedience because you already belong to God, not to make you belong. So do not let the thought that baptism is works keep you from it. Works say you must earn something. Baptism says Jesus has already done everything, and you are simply telling the truth about that.

Fear and faith cannot rule at the same time. Peter walked on the water while he looked at Jesus, but when he looked at the wind and waves, fear took over. Your wind and waves are the size of the pool, the depth, and the loss of control. The remedy is not to pretend those things are nothing, but to look at the Lord who is leading you. The command to be baptized is not a command to be baptized in a large pool. A smaller setting where you can sit and be lowered under the water is a perfectly fitting way to obey. If that is what you need, say so plainly.

Clothing should not keep you from obedience. Ask what is normally worn and whether a robe or dark modest clothing is provided. Jesus taught His people not to be anxious about what they will wear. That detail can be solved practically. The deeper battle is whether you will let fear keep you from the good confession.

A failed email is not a closed door. You already spoke with a pastor, which took courage. Follow up by phone or in person. If the only usual option is a neighbor's large pool and that brings this much dread, ask for what is already on your heart: a small, seated immersion. If the church cannot provide that right away, you are not required to force yourself into a setting that overwhelms you. Waiting with a clear request before God is not the same as refusing Him. But do not let waiting become a hiding place. Take the next concrete step.

I will pray that God opens the way for you to be baptized in a place where you can sit and be immersed, with modest clothing, and with growing peace in your spirit. The sacredness of baptism is not in the size of the water. It is in what it says: you have died to the old life and are alive in Jesus Christ. Keep your confidence there. You are not earning God's approval. You are answering His call, and He is able to provide both the opportunity and the courage.
