Nose High Attitude

You recall those days when you traveled at will, but consider: what was the end of such journeying? Often it was for gain, for pleasure, the service of mammon, who drives men across land and sea only to bind them with innumerable cords. Now your steps are hemmed in, not by your own choice, and this feels a heavy sorrow. Yet perhaps God in mercy has confined your body to free your soul for a greater voyage. The one who can live with little, who needs no conveyance or soft resting-place, is far greater than the one who demands many things for the road. Do not think that because you sit within walls your spirit cannot travel. The women of apostolic times were more spirited than lions: they went about not for sightseeing but sharing the apostles’ labors for the Gospel, facing dangers, spending themselves for others. You too can bestow much labor from this very chamber, by prayer, by teaching a seeking soul, by ministering to any who cross your threshold. That is a journey worthy of your remaining years.

The devil’s craft is to make us slumber with vain longings; but we travel the narrow way sober and watchful, with Jesus as guide. Wishing to mount up to heaven is not enough: we must put our hand to the work. And that work needs no long road, no boundless ocean crossed, no expense of money. It requires only a ready will, to cast off inordinate desires, to bridle the tongue, to flee youthful lusts. For the lust of travel, when it becomes a craving for what is past, is such a youthful lust, a wavering of a heart not yet deeply grounded. The space between youth and this present age is small enough, and harrassing cares already wither our feeling. Do not add to them by clinging to shadows.

Lift up your longing to the journey that ends in the royal city of heaven. There, you will never flag near the close, for the hope of our calling is walked out in good works extended to the dying day. Your confinement, borne with thanksgiving, may be the very mercy that delivers you from perils and sets you firmly on that path. So pray not merely to travel as in former days, but to travel as Paul did, in labors, in watchings, in sincere love for the brethren. Then shall your latter journey outshine the first, for it will be undertaken not for mammon but for the kingdom.

That image of a plane crossing the sky, stirring memories of a more mobile season of life, is a powerful one. It speaks to a longing that feels very real right now. When you are confined to the boundaries of your home, seeing that freedom overhead can sharpen the ache. What you are feeling is more than just a desire to change scenery; it is a taste of the groaning that the Scriptures describe, a yearning for a liberty we sense we were made for. The whole creation, and we ourselves, groan under the weight of present limitations, waiting for a fuller redemption.

The beautiful and sometimes difficult truth is that our ultimate freedom was never meant to be found in a plane ticket or the open road. The most profound journey is the one from spiritual death to life. A man can be physically mobile and yet completely bound, or physically still and yet truly free. Real liberty comes from being born again by the Spirit of God. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, who was delivered for our offenses and raised again for our justification, you are given a new kind of life. The old life, dominated by the flesh with its limitations and failures, is put to death. In its place, you become a new creation, a child of God, with a spirit that is alive to Him.

That new life means your standing before God is not based on your ability to travel or your current circumstances. We are justified by faith, and that brings a peace with God that does not need to be broken when our situation changes or when we fail. This peace gives us access into a grace in which we stand. The very same power that raised Christ from the dead is the power by which you are saved and kept. And because He rose again, He lives to make intercession for you right now. He is your mediator, not arguing your perfection, but presenting His own finished work on your behalf. You can rest in that. Jesus paid it all.

This season of confinement does not mean God’s love for you has narrowed. His love is broader than the universe, and His desires for you are only for your good. He may be using these boundaries to deepen your understanding that your life is now hidden with Christ in God. The ultimate travel, the final liberation from every chain, is still ahead when He returns or calls you home. The hope of the believer is not in returning to the days of our youth, but in the promise that we will one day come into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Abraham, when called to sacrifice Isaac, trusted that God could even raise the dead to keep His promise. He believed in a God who provides a way where there seems to be none.

I will pray with you, asking the Lord to lift this limitation if it is His will and to provide a path forward. But more than that, I pray that you would know the peace that passes understanding, a peace that does not depend on your location. May you find your spirit soaring in the freedom that is already yours in Christ, knowing that you are not confined to your home but are seated with Him in heavenly places. The sky will not have the last word. The One who is coming again to establish His kingdom will, and in that day, you will know a freedom that no memory of youth could ever match.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heartfelt request, sharing both the sweet memories of past travels and the longing in your spirit to experience that freedom once more. It touched our hearts to stand with you before the Lord, lifting up your desire to travel again—not as a fleeting wish, but as a deep yearning placed in His hands. We prayed that if it be His will, He would open doors, provide opportunities, and grant you the joy of movement beyond these familiar walls. We also asked Him to comfort you in the waiting, to remind you of His nearness even in stillness, and to fill your days with His peace as you trust in His timing.

If the Lord has already moved in ways large or small—whether through an unexpected invitation, a shift in circumstances, or even a renewed sense of hope—we would love to celebrate with you! Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in His faithfulness. If, however, the answer hasn’t yet come, or if the longing remains unfulfilled, we invite you to post this request again. We are here to continue praying alongside you, believing with you, and trusting that our Heavenly Father hears every word spoken in faith.

May the Lord bless you with His presence in this season, drawing you closer to Him as you seek His face through Jesus Christ. Whether your feet are called to stillness or to journey once more, may you know His love surrounding you, His grace sustaining you, and His goodness guiding your steps. We pray this in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
