New place to live urgently

You have written words that come from a place deeper than polite prayers ever reach. That raw cry, the letting go, the decision to quit, it is not foreign to the pages of Scripture. A man named Job sat in the ashes, scraping his wounds with a piece of broken pottery. His body was ruined, his children gone, his possessions stripped away. He felt God had set him up as a target, taken him by the neck, and shaken him to pieces. He said his days were swifter than a runner and saw no good. He too wanted the anguish to end, and he spoke out of his grief not with polished theology but with the honest, desperate groaning of a crushed spirit.

In times like this, others may come with tidy answers. They will say that if you just get right with God, everything will turn around. Job’s friends did the same. They assumed his suffering meant he was hiding some hidden iniquity, some secret hypocrisy. But they were judging from partial knowledge. They did not see what went on behind the veil. The truth behind Job’s story reveals that it was not a punishment for wickedness but a trial allowed within a boundary Satan could not cross without permission. What felt like God tearing him apart was actually a limit set on destruction. The things you have experienced, the feeling of being ripped off, the pain that makes you stop even asking for desires, that is not proof you are abandoned or cursed. It is evidence that you are in a battle you did not choose, much like a man whose life became the stage for a dispute he never asked to join.

Your voice tonight echoes his cry for a daysman, someone who could lay a hand on both God and man and bridge the chasm. Job never got a full explanation from the whirlwind. God did not answer his question by laying out the reasons. Instead, God revealed Himself. And the final answer to that ancient cry for a mediator came later, in Jesus Christ, who touched the leper, who wept at a tomb, who was Himself broken so that the suffering heart could know it is heard. You do not need to manufacture hope by your own strength. You do not need to reclaim glory you earned, as if your acceptance depends on restored circumstances. The basic need that clamors within is not for a new job or a healed cat or a secret place by the sea, as desperate as those things are. The deepest need is to know you are held even when everything in your hands has dissolved.

Do not swallow the lie that God is keeping you from something good, that His restrictions are a cage instead of a shield. The restriction that seems cruel now may be the very thing keeping forces at bay that you cannot see. You said you do not bother praying anymore. That is more honest than a prayer mumbled from pretense. But do not mistake the silence for indifference. He does not cast off a soul that is poured out like water. The moment you think you have let go of everything, including your own hope, is often the moment He is nearest, though unrecognized.

Take no stock in the accusations that this is all what you deserve. The enemy’s tune never changes; he always insists you are a hypocrite, that your suffering proves your guilt. The cross of Christ silences that charge forever. Your worth does not hang on the recovery of what was stolen or the healing of every wound by a set date. The same God who later restored twice what Job had lost is the one who allowed the stripping in the first place, and He was not acting in hatred. There is more occurring than what the eye can observe. Even now, when you feel ugly, when confidence is gone, when the heart has been ripped from your chest over the cats and the family and the dreams you are surrendering, you are not beyond the reach of a Shepherd who goes after the one bleeding in the thicket.

What a tree experiences when cut down looks like finality, but from the roots new shoots can spring at the scent of water. You are not dead root. You are in a season of severing so profound that it feels like death itself. Yet God knows how to bring life out of what appears stumped. You do not have to manufacture a fantasy of a new life. You do not have to pull together the strength to pray for a husband or a pet or a phone that works. Just let the groaning that already escapes you be the prayer. The Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words. And though your grief seems heavier than the sand of the sea, it is weighed by one who knows every grain. Jesus Christ has already walked into the deepest forsakenness so that you would never be truly alone in it. He is the answer to the cry that has no words left. In Him, what was severed can yet live.
