Peace, perfect peace, is not wrought by repeating words or by claiming verses as charms, but by a mind stayed upon God through trust in Jesus Christ, for it is written, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.
There is a false peace which the enemy gives, a lull of stupefaction where conscience is made to lie still, and men cry Peace, peace, where there is no peace. That peace is a curse. The true peace is a blessing, purchased with blood, for He is our peace who made peace through the blood of His cross. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, not as an incantation to secure houses or fortunes, but as the publication in the conscience of a treaty already made with God through atonement. Do not seek after peace first. Seek after Christ first, and peace will come next, for being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
You speak of flipping what the enemy means for evil into good, and indeed God in His sovereignty did so with Joseph, yet this is His prerogative and not a formula to be commanded for our enterprises. Your entrance to your work, your garage studio salon, is a place of thronging duties, and there the Lord would have you know that to do the will of Jesus, this is rest. Commit that labour to Him in honesty, diligence and purity of witness. If you have adorned it with Halloween tape, consider what fellowship light has with darkness. The Christian is to be clear in testimony, not to make alliance with the emblems of darkness and death, even in jest, for we are called to be children of light. Let your entrance speak of cleanliness, modesty and welcome, that those who enter may see Christ honoured there.
You plead for a home for yourself and your two cats, and for a normal and quiet life. This care is not hidden from your Father, who feeds the sparrows and knows your need of shelter. It is right to ask Him for a place to dwell and to be a faithful steward of the creatures entrusted to you. Yet favour with God is not obtained by much repeating, nor by loosening a verse over a situation. When Moses declared, The Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail, in Deuteronomy 28, he spoke a covenant promise conditioned upon hearkening diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God to observe and to do His commandments. It is not a spell to be claimed for personal advancement, but a call to walk in obedience, humility and dependence upon grace. The highly favoured soul is not the one who gains all he demands, but the one who is reconciled to God, whose sins are forgiven, whose heart is renewed, and who is kept by the peace of God which passeth all understanding.
You speak also of happiness and of going to the casino once in a while, and of finding happiness greatly there. Here I must speak plainly in love. The Scriptures teach us to be stewards of what God provides, to labour with contentment, and to keep ourselves from covetousness, which is idolatry. The casino is built upon the hope of gain without labour, upon chance and coveting, and it has brought many a household to sorrow. Happiness is not found there, and God will not bless a path which nurtures greed and wastes what He has entrusted to us for bread, for debt, for mercy to others, and for His work. If you would be happy, find your happiness in Christ, in communion with Him, in a quiet walk of obedience, in usefulness to your children and neighbours, and in a conscience void of offence. The Lord has endless, boundless peace within Himself, and when you have long enjoyed peace with Him you may go to Him again and say, Lord, renew my peace, for I am troubled but Thou art unmoved.
Your life, your mother, your offspring, your household, are indeed your own stewardship under God, and it is right to desire privacy and order in your own home. Yet let that home be ordered by the Word, with Christ as Head there, where sin is not excused but mortified, and where grace is sought daily.
May the Lord grant you not a peace that stupefies, but a filling peace, a well founded peace, peace in believing. Cast your burden of housing upon Him. Ask Him for a suitable dwelling according to His wisdom and provision, and submit your will to His. Ask Him to prosper the work of your hands so far as it may be done to His glory and for the good of others. Turn from trusting in charms, in much speaking, or in games of chance, and trust wholly in the Person, name and work of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name whereby we must be saved, and no other foundation for peace can any man lay.
Let us pray together. O God of all peace, who hast made peace by the blood of the cross, forgive all sin and reconcile this soul to Thyself through Jesus Christ Thy Son. Keep the mind stayed on Thee and keep it in perfect peace. Provide in Thy fatherly care what is needed for daily life and shelter, and teach contentment with Thy provision. Purge from us all love of darkness and all covetous desire, and make our homes and our callings to shine as lights for Christ. Fill the heart with peace in believing, that abounding in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost, we may rest in Thy will and do Thy will, until Thou callest us home. Amen.
