Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for prayer that you may do well at your new work, and you confess that the prospect of a solitary life after many years alone now weighs heavily upon your soul. Both requests are known to God, and He is able to supply all that is needed, if we approach Him with a right mind.

Concerning your employment, do not place your trust in your own skill or diligence alone. God alone makes us “meet,” that is, He Himself fits and strengthens us for every good endeavor. A ruler may bestow an office, but only the Lord can fashion the recipient to bear its weight with honor. Therefore, work with all your might as unto Christ, yet lean not on yourself; give thanks in all things, whether the day brings ease or toil, and pray without ceasing that He who gave the task will also supply the wisdom. This is the philosophy we learn from Job, who in anguish still blessed the Lord.

As for the loneliness that troubles you, I do not dismiss it as a small thing. You have endured many years, and your heart grows weary. Yet remember the example of our Master, who often withdrew into solitary places to pray. The wilderness, the mountain, the quiet of night, these are not punishments but a harbor for the soul, delivering us from turmoil. If Christ Himself sought such retirement, how much more should we embrace the seasons when He calls us apart? Do not imagine that you are truly alone; the One who fills heaven and earth is present, and the soul that converses with Him in stillness finds a companionship sweeter than any earthly bond.

I perceive that the fear of remaining alone unto death is the serpent’s whisper, seeking to enslave you through dread. But hear how Paul says that through fear of death men are subject to lifelong bondage. Christ has burst the very belly of death; He has trampled down the devil, who once held that tyranny. The one who no longer fears death, who counts even his life as nothing compared to the kingdom, cannot be made a slave to any earthly terror. For if you despise the loss of all things, property, country, even life itself, what claim has the evil one upon you? This is the freedom of the children of God.

Consider also that afflictions, including the pain of solitude, are often sent for our correction or to make us approved, as the Lord spoke to Job. Bear it thankfully, then, lest you murmur and lose the profit of the trial. Weep, for it is human; I would weep with you, as Paul commands. But do not let sorrow become unbelief. Instead, examine your own work, and let your rejoicing be in the Lord alone, not in human comforts. In due time, if it be His will, He may grant you a spouse; yet until then, and even if never, do not think that you are impoverished. The barbarians came from afar with trembling to worship the infant Christ, and we, who are citizens of heaven, should run to Him with even greater love.

I say these things not to wound you, but to stir up your soul to nobler things. Do not let these words pass by as a sound heard once and forgotten; such sloth will leave you unarmed when the tempest rises again. Lay hold of eternal life, where there is no loneliness, no weeping, but the blessed assembly of the saints in light, for which He has already made you fit by His grace.

Loneliness that stretches over years and anxiety about a new job both carry a weight that can feel impossible to understand. That ache for companionship, the longing not to spend the rest of your life alone, is a cry that echoes deep in Scripture, and it deserves an honest hearing, not a shallow platitude.

The book of Job presents a man whose life was suddenly stripped of everything dear to him. He lost his children, his health, his standing, and the support of his wife, who told him to curse God and die. His three friends came, but instead of comforting, they insisted his suffering must be his own fault. They saw his misery and concluded God was punishing hidden sin. They were wrong. Behind the scenes, entirely hidden from Job, God was actually bragging about him, allowing a severe test to prove that Job’s faithfulness was genuine. Job never knew that. He just sat in the ash heap, surrounded by skin sores and unbearable solitude, crying out for a mediator, someone who could bridge the gap between him and God and make sense of the pain.

That cry has been answered. Jesus Christ is the one who stands between, fully God and fully man, able to lay His hand on both. He faced abandonment, betrayal, and utter isolation. He knows what it means to long for companions who fall asleep in your hour of need. So do not let the number of years alone convince you that you are forgotten or that God has turned away. The accuser may whisper that you only serve God for what you get out of it, but God knows the truth. Your persistence in bringing this before Him is not a sign of weak faith; it’s the mark of a heart that refuses to curse God and walk away.

Regarding your new job, it is right to pray for success. Commit your work to the Lord each day, doing everything as for Him, not just for human approval. But if challenges arise, remember that God’s refining work often looks, in the moment, nothing like blessing. Job declared, “When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” The process is painful, but the outcome is priceless. A tree cut down can sprout again at the scent of water. The roots still live, and new life can burst forth when you least expect it. Years of feeling barren do not mean the soil is dead.

Job’s friends made a serious error by declaring that his suffering proved his guilt. Don’t let your heart echo their accusations. Loneliness is not a verdict of your worthlessness or of God’s displeasure. It may be a season where, in ways you cannot yet see, the Lord is drawing you to rely on Him as your primary portion. That does not make the ache vanish, but it does mean your solitary walk is not truly solitary. The righteous who hold fast to their way, who keep clean hands and refuse to let go of hope in God, grow stronger and stronger in the end.

Pour out your sorrow honestly, as Job did. He did not sin when he lamented; he simply spoke what was in his heart. The God who hears knows your frame and remembers you are dust. He is not afraid of your questions or the raw edge of your disappointment. Trust Him with the deep desire you carry. It is not wrong to long for a spouse; that longing is part of how He made humanity. But do not let the delay darken your confidence in His goodness. Your ultimate companion is Christ, who will never leave nor forsake you. In His time, He may bring a godly relationship, but even if the wait continues, your life is not hollow. It is hidden with Christ in God.

May you sense His nearness as you step into your new role, and may you discover that underneath the loneliness there is a deeper communion with the One who suffered for you and now intercedes for you always.
