Disciple of Prayer
Please pray that God will transform my husband's heart. He demonstrates traits of either sociopathy or malignant narcissism. He has no remorse, guilt, or compassion for others when he hurts them. He is obsessed with control and has a cold, unblinking stare he uses to intimidate me. He is extremely calculating, manipulative, and coercive. Please pray that God will deliver him from this evil and give him a heart of flesh that feels compassion and love for others. We have a baby on the way who needs a loving father.

We hear your cry and we join with you in lifting your husband, your marriage, and your precious baby on the way before the throne of grace in Jesus' name. Your burden is heavy and we do not take lightly what you have described, a coldness of heart, a desire for control, intimidation, manipulation and a lack of remorse or compassion. This is not the heart God desires for a husband and father, and we grieve with you over the pain this has caused.

Scripture is clear about what God requires of a husband. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered 1 Peter 3:7. A controlling, coercive, unblinking stare used to intimidate and a calculating heart that feels no guilt when hurting others is sin before God. It must be called what it is and it must be repented of. Love is patient and is kind, love doesn't envy, love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. What you describe is the opposite of love and we rebuke that spirit of hardness and control, and we pray your husband will be convicted by the Holy Spirit and turn from it with godly sorrow that leads to repentance.

We also know with God nothing is impossible and no heart is too hard for Him to transform. We cling to His promise, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires Proverbs 21:1. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. We pray for nothing less than this miraculous new birth for your husband, that God would deliver him from evil, break the chains of pride and manipulation, and fill him with compassion, tenderness, and the love of Christ.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You only through the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, and we lift this wife and mother to You, and her husband and their unborn child. Lord, You see the intimidation and coldness in this home, You see the tears and the fear, and You are near to those who have a broken heart, and save those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We ask You to have mercy. Lord, transform this husband's heart. Remove his heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh that feels, that loves, that shows remorse and compassion. Deliver him from the evil of control and coercion and manipulation. Convict him deeply of his sin and lead him to true repentance and faith in Jesus. Teach him how to love his wife as Christ loves the church and how to cherish and protect his family. We pray for this precious baby, that You would form and protect this child, and provide a loving, godly father who will lead this family in righteousness. Father, be this wife's refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1. Give her wisdom, discernment, and courage, and surround her with godly counsel and protection. Let Your will be done in this marriage and let this home be brought into the light and healing of Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer but also to seek wise and safe help in the body of Christ. Do not walk this path alone. Please bring this matter to a trusted pastor or elder and to mature believing women who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you establish godly boundaries. A husband who uses intimidation and control needs loving but firm accountability, and true change will require humble repentance, ongoing discipleship, and often consistent biblical counseling. If at any time you feel unsafe or threatened, please seek safety immediately and involve trusted family, church leaders, or appropriate help, for God calls husbands to protect, not to frighten their wives. If you ask for wisdom, ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to you James 1:5.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only by His name that we have access to God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. We pray that both you and your husband would put your full trust in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is that saving faith that makes a new heart possible.

We continue to stand with you for the sanctity of your marriage, for God hates the hardness that wounds a marriage, but He loves to restore what is broken when there is humble surrender to Him. We pray your marriage will become a testimony of God's power to redeem, with a husband who loves sacrificially and a wife who is honored and cherished, and a child raised in the security of that love. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2. We are trusting God with you for that transformation.

We are thankful you reached out and shared so honestly. What you described, the cold stare used to intimidate, the control and manipulation, and feeling no remorse or compassion from him, sounds frightening and exhausting, especially with a baby on the way and your deep hope for a loving father for your child. It makes sense you would feel on edge and carry a lot of worry right now.

We join you in praying for your safety and for wisdom for each next decision, and we also pray for your husband that God would work in his heart. You should not have to carry this alone. One steady step we encourage is to reach out soon to one safe, trusted person who can walk with you in person, whether a counselor, a pastor, an advocate experienced in domestic abuse, or your prenatal care provider, and talk through a safety plan for you and your baby. If you have a safe place to keep important papers and a way to reach help quickly, it can help you feel less trapped while you seek ongoing support. We care about both your spiritual and physical wellbeing, so please continue to get care alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this mother and her baby to You and ask for Your protection over them. Give her wisdom, peace, and safe support around her in these months, and guide her to helpers she can trust. We ask You to work in her husband's heart and lead him away from harm and toward what is good. Keep them in Your care, in Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been laid before the throne of grace and we join you in earnest prayer for the transformation you have asked of the Lord.

We hear the heaviness of what you describe, the coldness and hardness of heart, the intimidation and coercive control, and the fear that comes with it, especially as you carry a precious child who will soon need the shelter of a loving home. Such things wound the heart deeply, and the Lord does not look lightly upon them. He sees the sorrow of the oppressed and He is near to those who are brokenhearted.

You have prayed as Scripture itself teaches us to pray, that God would take away the stony heart out of the flesh and give a heart of flesh. This is the very promise of Ezekiel 36:26, A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you. We pray this with you, for only the Lord can do this work. As it has been well said, how can a man put into himself a new heart, for the heart being the motive power of all life, must exert itself before anything can be done. But what is impossible with man is possible with God. The heart which is naturally hard, and in some has become harder than an adamant stone, must be softened and cleansed by His own hand before He writes His law there. No human power can write the law of God upon the heart. He alone can give the new heart and the new spirit.

We pray that the Lord, who is the honored Healer of heart wounds, would work a saving impression that is a prick in the heart. A wound that goes only to the heart and stops there brings no lasting good, but when the sword of the Spirit pricks a man in the heart, it leads to repentance and life. We ask that your husband would be brought under such conviction, that he would see his sin as God sees it, that remorse and godly sorrow would be granted, and that the stony heart would be made flesh, tender to perceive the presence of God, to feel compassion and to love as he ought. We ask that guilt would be taken away through the cleansing blood of Christ, and that with pardon the power of sin would be broken, so that control and manipulation would give way to gentleness, truthfulness, and self denying love.

We also pray for you. May the Lord support you till your heart shall become strong and you shall bravely face the afflictions and conflicts of this trial. May He heal your heart wounds and guard you and your unborn child with His tender care. The Lord who provides for His people as a husband provides for his own will not forsake you.

We urge you, dear soul, not to bear this burden alone. Please bring trusted and godly help around you without delay. Seek the counsel and protection of mature pastors or elders in your church, and let faithful family or friends know of your situation so they may watch over you and help you remain safe. If you are in danger or feel threatened, seek safety at once and reach out for help from those who can intervene and protect you and your child. Coercive and intimidating conduct is grievous before God and must be addressed openly, not hidden. A wise church will walk with you, call sin what it is, require true repentance and its fruits, and provide accountability.

We will continue to pray for you both.

O Lord our God, who alone can take away the stony heart and give a heart of flesh, have mercy upon this husband. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Prick his heart by Thy Spirit, bring him to see his need of Christ, and grant him repentance unto life through faith in Jesus Christ alone, who is the only way of salvation. Let Thy law be written upon his heart that he may walk in love and truth. Protect this wife and her child, surround them with safety and godly counsel, and let this home be transformed by Thy marvelous grace, that bitterness may be turned into sweetness and sorrow into joy, for Christ's sake. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been heard and your sorrow over your husband and your concern for your child to come are taken seriously before the Lord. It is right to bring this burden to God and to ask Him for a true change of heart, and we join you in praying for that.

We pray that God, who alone can take away a heart of stone and give a heart of flesh, would work powerfully in your husband. We ask that He would open his eyes to his sin, grant him deep conviction and repentance, and deliver him from hardness, pride, and the desire to control and intimidate. We pray that instead of a cold and calculating spirit, God would give him a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and longsuffering, a heart that feels godly sorrow when he has hurt others and that learns to love and cherish others as Christ loves. We pray that he would turn to Jesus Christ alone for salvation, for only Christ can forgive sin and make a person new, and that he would walk in that newness with honesty and gentleness.

Scripture teaches that the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, and that Christ is the Savior of the body. That headship is not given for intimidation or coercion, but for saving health, for protection, for forethought and for sacrificial love. A cold stare used to frighten, manipulation and control are contrary to that calling and are not to be excused or blessed. God calls husbands to nourish and cherish their wives, and to bear with and forgive as Christ forgave us. We pray your husband would learn this pattern and turn from all that harms you.

For you, we pray for protection, wisdom, peace and strength in these months as you carry your child. God sees you and your baby and He is your true protector. Do not carry this alone. Please seek wise and godly help quickly. Speak with a faithful pastor or elders in your church, and with trusted family if possible, so they know what is happening in your home. If you are being intimidated or coerced, make a safety plan and seek help from people who can intervene and hold your husband accountable. Where there is a pattern of control and lack of compassion, accountability and clear boundaries are necessary, and professional Christian counseling can be important alongside pastoral care. If you ever feel unsafe, seek safety right away and reach out to trusted help in your area.

We also pray that God would sustain you, give you discernment in every step, comfort you with His presence, and guard your health and the life of your baby. There is hope that God can reclaim and change a hard heart when a person truly repents, and we pray your husband would be willing to hear counsel, confess his wrong, and submit to the help and correction he needs.

We will continue to pray for you, for your husband to be transformed and to become a loving and faithful husband and father, and for your child to be welcomed into a home marked by safety and love. Keep looking to the Lord who loves you more than any person can, and keep bringing every fear and need to Him.

Thank you for sharing something so painful and so personal. What you are describing, being controlled and intimidated by the coldness and calculation of the one who should be protecting and cherishing you, especially now as you carry a child, is deeply grievous. God sees it. He sees the fear you carry and the love you already have for your baby, and He hears your cry for a new heart for your husband.

Scripture is clear that God looks on the heart. The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked on its own, and out of it flow the issues of life. No one can change his own heart by willpower, and no wife can change her husband's heart by trying harder. Only God can do that work. He promises to take away a heart of stone and give a heart of flesh, a heart that can feel, that can love, that can know remorse and compassion. He does that when a person comes with a broken and contrite heart, asking Him to search and know the heart, to forgive and to cleanse, to create a clean heart and renew a right spirit. That is what we will ask Him to do for your husband, that God would work in him both to will and to do what pleases Him, placing His own desires within him and giving him the power to walk in them. True change is not surface behavior only, but a deep work inside that only Jesus Christ can do, for salvation is through Him alone.

God's design for marriage helps to see how far this behavior is from His will. In the simplest terms He gives one calling to the wife and one to the husband. The wife is called to submit to her own husband as unto the Lord, and the husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. Those two callings belong together. A wife can hardly submit in trust when she doubts whether she is truly and supremely loved, and a husband's love is meant to make that trust possible. The husband is never called to lord over his wife or to rule through fear, intimidation, or coercion. He himself is to be under the authority of Christ, and his headship is to look like Christ, sacrificial, gentle, protective, and kind. The true beauty and strength God values in a person is not outward power or control, but the hidden person of the heart, a character formed by God that is incorruptible and gracious.

Because of that, submission never means submitting to sin or to harm. If a husband requires something that would wound your conscience before God, or that would harm you or your child, you are not called to submit to that. Love as Christ loves does not manipulate or coerce, and it does not use a stare or threats to control. God calls that kind of hardness evil, and He does not ask you to pretend it is love or to enable it. Keeping your heart with all diligence in this season means guarding what God has entrusted to you, hiding His word in your heart for strength, and using the powerful weapon of prayer while also seeking wise, safe help in person.

Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant, that a wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives, and that even when one spouse does not believe, the believing spouse has a sanctifying influence in the home and the children are regarded as holy in that sense. It also teaches that if a wife does separate, she is to remain unmarried or be reconciled, which shows God's heart for reconciliation where it is possible. Separation for safety is not the same as abandoning the covenant. When there is a pattern of control, lack of remorse, and intimidation, love for you and for your unborn child requires protection and accountability. Please do not walk through this alone. Reach out quickly to a trusted pastor who holds to Scripture, to a wise and safe family member or friend, and to your medical provider who can help you with both physical safety and care for your pregnancy. If you ever feel unsafe or threatened, seek immediate protection and let those who can help you know what is happening. Keep a record of what occurs, and make a safety plan with people you trust.

We will pray for you and your child, and we will pray for your husband that God would deliver him from evil and grant him repentance. We ask that God would convict him of his need for Christ, break his stony heart, and give him a heart of flesh that knows godly sorrow, compassion, and love, that he would turn to Jesus with his whole heart and learn to love as Christ loves. We pray that God would sanctify the Lord in your heart in this trial, that He would give you wisdom, courage, and peace that guards your heart, that He would surround you with safe, godly support, and that He would protect and provide for you and your baby in every way.

You are not forgotten. God knows your heart toward Him, He hears when you seek Him with your whole heart, and He is able to do what no person can do. Continue to seek Him, to pray, and to let His word dwell in you, and let faithful, in person help come alongside you for the steps ahead.
