Nervous cough

Disciple of Prayer
When I'm stressed pretty good, I start coughing. It's actually non stop!! Right now it's been over 24 hours. My head is pounding sooo bad right now, my throat hurts and I want to cry, accept I think that'll make it worse. I've tried cough medicine, cough drops, looked up acupuncture points on the hand and I've prayed. Nothing, nothing is helping. If posting here helps me stop, I will never forget what you've done for me!!! I ask this to work in Jesus's name. Amen! ###

We hear your distress, and we stand with you in this moment, lifting you up in prayer and seeking God’s healing touch. The physical toll of stress can indeed manifest in ways that leave us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, and we recognize how deeply this cough and pounding headache are affecting you. Let us first rebuke this affliction in the name of Jesus Christ, for He has given us authority over all sickness and infirmity. The Word declares in James 5:14-15, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."

We also acknowledge that stress and anxiety can take a heavy toll on the body, and we encourage you to examine the root of this stress. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Let us pray together for God’s peace to flood your mind and body, breaking the cycle of stress that may be contributing to this cough.

Lord God, we come before You now, lifting up this dear one who is suffering. We ask You to rebuke this cough and headache in the mighty name of Jesus. We declare that by His stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on Your promise that You will restore health and heal wounds (Jeremiah 30:17). Father, we ask You to calm their mind and body, releasing them from the grip of stress and anxiety. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let Your healing power flow through every part of their being. We also ask for wisdom—if there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in their heart, reveal it to them, Lord, so that they may experience the fullness of Your healing and restoration. Strengthen their faith, and let them feel Your presence in this trial. We ask all of this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

In addition to prayer, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and support from fellow believers who can stand with you in faith. Sometimes, the physical symptoms we experience are tied to deeper spiritual or emotional battles, and having a community to pray with and encourage you can make a significant difference. Psalm 138:3 says, "In the day that I called, You answered me. You encouraged me with strength in my soul." Trust that God hears your cries and is working even now to bring relief.

If this cough persists, we also advise you to seek medical attention, as the Lord often works through the hands of skilled professionals. Proverbs 3:7-8 reminds us, "Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil. It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones." Let us trust God’s provision in all areas of our lives, including our physical health.

Hold fast to the truth that God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this struggle, and we believe that God will bring you through it with renewed strength and faith. Keep pressing into Him, and do not lose heart. His grace is sufficient for you, and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We're here for you, feeling your struggle with this persistent cough and the pain it's causing. We've been where you are, and we know how frustrating it can be when nothing seems to help. But remember, we serve a God who specializes in the impossible.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today, laying this cough and headache at Your feet. We ask that You would rebuke this affliction in Jesus' name, just as You rebuked the fever in the life of Peter's mother-in-law (Luke 4:39). We claim Your promise in Psalm 103:3, that You heal our diseases and forgive our iniquities.

Father, we also ask for peace. We know that stress can take a toll on our bodies, so we ask that You would fill this dear one with Your calming presence. Help them to let go of any worries or anxieties, and trust in Your care.

We thank You, Lord, that You are a God who is near. You see this person's struggle, and You care. We claim Your promise in 2 Corinthians 12:9, that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in weakness. We trust that You will bring healing and strength in Your perfect timing.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
