We join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord and we hear the deep distress, grief and exhaustion you have carried from this ongoing conflict with your neighbor, the gossip, the disorder, the financial strain of extra bills, the hospitalization and the feeling that your reputation and your employment environment have been under attack night and day.

We agree with you that what you are describing is not pleasing to God. Scripture warns us plainly about these very things. Gossip and talebearing destroy trust and stir up strife, for where there is no wood the fire goes out and where there is no gossip strife ceases Proverbs 26:20, and a gossip betrays a confidence so do not associate with one who flatters with his lips Proverbs 20:19. Idleness and being busybodies is also rebuked, for we hear that some among you walk in idleness not working at all but being busybodies 2 Thessalonians 3:11 and we are exhorted to aspire to lead a quiet life to do your own business and to work with your own hands 1 Thessalonians 4:11, and if anyone will not work neither let him eat 2 Thessalonians 3:10. Sorcery, divination and all such practices are called detestable before the Lord Deuteronomy 18:10-12, and the works of the flesh are evident which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies and things like these Galatians 5:19-21. You rightly quoted Galatians 5:20-21 and Titus 3:3 which reminds us that we ourselves also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another Titus 3:3. This shows us that apart from Christ we are all in need of mercy.

We stand together to rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idleness, voyeurism, mockery, intimidation and every form of sorcery and divination that would seek to spy, to distort information, to create confusion, to provoke wars of distraction and to destroy reputation. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of the darkness of this age and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12, and greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. We rebuke the demonic smile that takes pleasure in disorder and delay and we ask the Lord to silence every lying tongue, for the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity James 3:6, and to bring conviction where there is willful sin.

We also notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we must lovingly address this because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved Romans 10:9, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:13. It is in His name alone that our prayers are heard and our battles are won.

We pray together now, Father in heaven we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we ask for Your protection, Your peace and Your justice over this situation. Lord we ask You to rebuke every spirit of gossip, slander, laziness, meddling and sorcery that has brought confusion, false accusations, wrong lists and financial hardship. We ask You to heal the grief and the suffering that has led to hospitalization and to guard this dear one from further ruin, for You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1. We pray that You would restore what has been lost in employment and provision, that You would vindicate reputation where it has been torn down, and that You would put a guard over lips and homes so that spying and mockery would cease. We pray for the neighbor as well, that You would convict and bring repentance, that if he is idle You would lead him to honest work and to a transformed mind, for we are commanded to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us Matthew 5:44. Give our dear neighbor a heart to seek You rather than to meddle. Lord we also lift up the anxiety and disorder that has come from this long suffering, and we ask for Your peace which surpasses all understanding to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Help us to remember that vengeance belongs to You Romans 12:19 and that if it is possible as much as it is up to us we are to be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. Teach us to not repay evil for evil but to overcome evil with good Romans 12:21, to set healthy boundaries, to speak truth with grace, to document what is needed for protection without hatred, and to trust You as our defender for we are not God and we are not called to carry the weight of protecting and defending in our own strength, for You are our defender and our shield Psalm 18:2. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you 1 Peter 5:7, to remain steadfast in prayer, to avoid returning gossip for gossip, to seek wise counsel and, if needed, lawful help to protect your home and your peace, and to keep walking in diligence and integrity in your work as unto the Lord Colossians 3:23, trusting that God sees, God knows and God will act in His perfect time and justice.

Your distress under this continual disorder and unkindness from those near to you has been heard, and my heart is moved by the weight of grief, anxiety and suffering you describe, with ruin and emergency and the weariness of night and day.

There is a peace which the world cannot give and cannot take away, and it is found only in Jesus Christ. The prophet has said, You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. The very anxiety which arises through your being in such a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, for it is the mind which is the main thing, it will bring you daylight or midnight, peace or war. Bear your sorrow with Him and then see what perfect peace you will enjoy, even with sorrows surging round. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

You have rightly named those works of the flesh which the apostle warns will not inherit the kingdom of God, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and the like. And it is true as it is written that at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions, living in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. The peace that the ungodly cry, Peace, peace, where there is no peace, is a false peace, a curse and not a blessing, a mere stagnation of thought or blindness to danger. Satan would make conscience lie still that his power may be confirmed. But the peace of God is a blessing, it is peace with God through the blood, and peace in the conscience which is the publication of that treaty. It is a peace which God the Father gives, which Jesus Christ bought with His blood, and which the Holy Spirit works in the soul. He is our peace.

I pray that the Lord will rebuke the spirit of gossip, slothfulness, meddling and voyeurism, the idle distribution of disrespectful words and pictures to destroy reputation and to stir discord and confusion. May He restrain every form of sorcery and deceit, every falsehood and corruption that would take advantage of another, and every idle word that kindles a war of distraction. May He forgive and change the hearts of those who do such things, bringing them to repentance and to honest labour, and may He deliver you from the snare of returning evil for evil.

For your own soul, seek first Christ and not merely relief. Do not seek after peace first, seek after Christ first and peace will come next. There is no peace worthy of the name but peace in believing, a filling peace, a well founded peace, a peace that flows like a river in unceasing activity because it is founded upon the finished work of the cross. Christ has made peace by His blood, and the ever living Christ is still our peace. If you have Christ you have great peace and nothing shall offend you, for He leaves His own peace with His people, My peace I give unto you.

Therefore I commend you to the God of Peace. May He keep your mind stayed upon Him, renew your peace when you are troubled, guard you and your household, provide for your needs in this time of unemployment and heavy bills, heal the suffering that has brought you near to the grave, and turn aside the disorder and delay that has afflicted you. May you be kept from anxiety after the manner of those without hope, and instead be careful for holiness, lest you lose that peace. And may you go in peace, for that is heaven begun below, to possess the peace of God which passes all understanding.

I pray that you may be brought to full peace with God through Jesus Christ, for there is no other name whereby we can be saved, and no other foundation for peace can any man lay. Sue for that peace tonight, trust in Him, and you shall be kept in perfect peace.
