Isaiah 49:15Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up the deep sorrow and anguish expressed in this plea, grief over lost unborn children, broken families, abandonment, and the pain of those left behind. The Word of God speaks clearly to the value of every life, from conception to natural death, and we stand firmly on the truth that all human beings are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalm 139:13-16). The loss of innocent life through abortion is a grave sin before the Lord, for He declares, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). Yet even in this darkness, we know that God’s mercy is greater than our sin, and He welcomes the little ones into His eternal care.

We rebuke the spirit of abandonment, betrayal, and despair that has torn apart families and left so many feeling forsaken. The enemy seeks to destroy what God has ordained, but we declare that no weapon formed against God’s people shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We also lift up those who have participated in or been affected by abortion, for there is forgiveness and healing in the name of Jesus. The blood of Christ covers all sin for those who repent and turn to Him (1 John 1:9).

To those who feel alone, without shelter, family, or refuge, we declare that the Lord will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He is a father to the fatherless and a defender of the widow (Psalm 68:5). We pray for provision, comfort, and restoration for every person who has been cast aside or betrayed. For those who have lost children, whether through miscarriage, abortion, or abandonment, we entrust those precious souls into the arms of Jesus, who said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14).

We also address the generational consequences of sin mentioned in this plea. The Bible warns that the iniquities of the fathers can affect the children to the third and fourth generation (Exodus 20:5), but we serve a God who breaks chains and restores what has been lost. Through Christ, we are set free from the curses of the past, and we declare that no weapon formed against this generation shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Heavenly Father, we come before You with weeping hearts, interceding for the unborn who were never given a chance to live, for the mothers and fathers who grieve in silence, and for the families torn apart by abandonment and betrayal. We ask for Your mercy to cover every life lost and for Your healing to restore every broken heart. Comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and draw near to those who feel utterly alone. We rebuke every spirit of death, despair, and destruction in the name of Jesus, and we declare life, hope, and restoration over every situation. May Your people rise up as a refuge for the abandoned, a voice for the voiceless, and a light in the darkness. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to the Father. Amen.

We have read your prayer several times and we hear how deeply you feel the pain of abandonment around you. You are seeing children and families left without a home or anyone to turn to, and you are carrying the grief for unborn little ones who are not welcomed. That is a heavy burden to hold, and we thank you for bringing it to the Lord with such compassion.

It makes sense that you would feel overwhelmed and even like a beggar yourself when there seems to be no refuge nearby for you or for those you are praying for. You are not alone in noticing this need, and God does not overlook those who feel forsaken or without shelter.

When thoughts feel tangled and heavy about the past and about generations before, we find rest in remembering that our security is in Christ today. He is present, He is steady, and He invites us to bring every sorrow to Him and leave it there.

If this weight is sitting on you alone, we encourage you to share it with a trusted pastor or a mature believer in your area who can walk alongside you in prayer and help you find practical support for anyone in need of shelter.

Father, we bring to You every child and every family feeling abandoned, every unborn baby and every parent in distress. Show Your mercy, give comfort and shelter where there is none, and draw each heart to know Your care and nearness. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

Your heavy burden and the cries of the abandoned and the unborn have been heard, and they are laid before the throne of grace where tender mercy reigns.

There is a proof of great tenderness on God's part to think of His sinful creature man at all, and His method of showing mercy is always Divinely tender. It is powerful, yet feminine in its tenderness. Though father and mother forsake, as you have quoted from Psalm 27, the Lord will receive. Though a mother should forget the baby at her breast, yet will not the Lord forget His own, for Isaiah 49 declares that He will have compassion. What man forgets, what man despises and hates, God remembers, and His mercy goeth before us.

We join you in praying for all those who suffer abandonment, for the lonely child left without house or family or friend to refuge them, for the wife forsaken by her husband and the husband forsaken by his wife, for the daughter and the son left alone, for the sister and brother betrayed, for every soul that wanders without shelter and cries for mercy as a beggar. The Lord knows your case and your circumstances, and He calls your name even by the well in the desert. This may be the very season chosen by God for the interposition of His mercy, the night when He meets with the wanderer and asks the home questions of the soul, Whence comest thou and whither wilt thou go.

We pray also for the unborn, for those despised and hated by father or mother, for the innocent whose life is taken before birth. We entrust these little ones to the care of Him who is slow to anger and plenteous in mercy, whose sword of justice still sleeps in its sheath because mercy presses it back and cries, I will have mercy upon sinners and will forgive their transgressions. All God's mercy to a sinner is gratis. He never sells, He always gives. And we ask that He who shed His blood on Calvary, who bore all our waves and billows, would receive these children into His heavenly keeping, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

And we pray for those who have walked in disobedience and disorder, for those whose hands have done this murder, that the same tender mercy which can make a man feel his guilt and upbraid himself with bitter reproach would lead them to repentance. A sound hope in God's mercy first feels its need of mercy, turns its face in the opposite direction, and becomes a new creation. Let none make a false hope of mercy while yet clinging to sin, but let each seek the mercy that is found only through Jesus Christ our Lord, for there is no other name by which we must be saved. His blood cleanses from all sin, and He puts away iniquity in a moment for all who trust Him.

Prayer is the forerunner of mercy, the shadow of the blessing before it comes, and often prayer itself gives the mercy as we weep with those who weep. Therefore we pray:

O God of tender mercy, Thou who goest before us and hast gone before us in days past, look upon the forsaken and the fatherless, upon those without home or family, and be Thou their refuge and shelter. Receive those whom father and mother have forsaken. Have compassion upon the unborn and gather the innocent into Thine everlasting arms. Forgive the guilty who repent and turn to Christ, and make them to know the sweetness of mercy shed abroad in the heart. Give repentance where there has been hardness, give tears where there have been dry eyes, and give faith to lay hold on Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Let Thy mercy overtake those who wander in the wilderness, and bring them home to Thyself. Hear us while we yet speak, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for those who suffer abandonment and for unborn children who are despised and rejected has been heard, and it is right and good to bring such sorrow before God.

You have remembered those who have no house, no family, and no refuge, children left alone, brothers and sisters betrayed by friends, mothers and fathers who have forsaken their own, and little ones still in the womb who have no voice to plead for themselves. Scripture gives you the very words to pray, that though father and mother may forsake us, the Lord will receive us, and that even if a mother could forget the baby at her breast, God will not forget His own. His compassion does not fail when human compassion fails.

We join you in entrusting every innocent child, every child lost through miscarriage and every child taken through abortion, to the mercy and care of God. Only He can receive them, only He can give them rest, and we ask Him in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone salvation comes, to have mercy. We pray also for mercy for mothers and fathers, for families broken by sin and disobedience, that God would bring repentance, healing, and forgiveness where there has been bloodshed and abandonment. What God calls murder He does not bless, but He does show mercy to those who turn to Him with a humble and contrite heart.

This burden you carry is also a call to show mercy yourselves. The Scriptures teach that mercy is like oil that gives light and quenches fire, and that nothing is so characteristic of a Christian as a merciful soul. God has already shown great mercy to us, and He calls us to follow Him by showing mercy to our neighbor. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. If we have mercy on those who are abandoned and have no shelter, God will have mercy on us.

So let us pray that God will provide refuge and shelter for those who are alone, that He will raise up people to be family to the family less, and that He will make our own hearts more merciful. Let us ask Him to comfort those who mourn, to forgive those who need forgiveness, and to receive every little one into His heavenly care.

May the Lord in His great goodness hear these prayers, grant mercy to the suffering, give shelter to the abandoned, and keep us all in His compassion through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your heart for those who are abandoned and for the unborn is precious before the Lord, and your prayer reflects His own compassion. The grief you describe is deep, the loss of a neighbor's child, the pain of children and families left alone without house or refuge, husbands and wives and sons and daughters forsaken, brothers and sisters betrayed, and little ones rejected even by their own mother and father.

Scripture speaks directly to this sorrow. Though my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me, Psalm 27:10. And, Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you, Isaiah 49:15. When every human support fails, God Himself becomes refuge and shelter. He does not forget the child in the womb and He does not forget the one who feels utterly alone.

It is right to entrust these innocent lives, those lost before birth through miscarriage or through the taking of life in the womb, to the mercy and care of God, asking Him to receive them. The taking of life in the womb is sin before God, and it leaves a deep wound of conscience for many. Yet the gospel declares that pardon and forgiveness are offered through Jesus Christ alone. When we come to Him in honest repentance, His blood cleanses and His grace can heal the scar in the heart and mind. That healing is real, whether it comes in a moment or gradually over time, for all true healing is from God who made our bodies and souls.

Jesus showed this heart throughout His ministry. He healed the sick, He touched those no one else would touch, He calmed the storm and He commanded evil spirits, showing His power in the physical and spiritual realm. Much of His work was simply healing the afflicted because He bore our infirmities and our sicknesses, as Isaiah foretold, Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, Isaiah 53:4, which Matthew applies to the healing works of Jesus. He was moved with compassion for grieving parents and for crowds who only sought help, and He never turned them away. He is still Yahweh who heals, and He becomes to us what we need, salvation when we need saving, comfort when we grieve, refuge when we have no home, healing for body and soul.

There is much about healing we do not understand. Not everyone is healed in the way we ask, and when healing does not come it is wrong to say it must be because of hidden sin or lack of faith. God is sovereign and compassionate, and He works in ways we cannot fully trace. But we can be sure that He hears, that He cares, and that He will make all things new. In the new heaven and new earth where God dwells, there is the river of life and the tree of life whose leaves are for the healing of the nations.

So we pray with you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, have mercy. Receive the little ones who were never welcomed on earth and give them place in Your presence. Comfort the neighbor who mourns and every mother and father who grieves. Look upon every abandoned child, every lonely wife and husband, every son and daughter left alone, every friend betrayed, every person without house or family or refuge, and be their refuge and shelter. Heal wounded consciences and broken hearts, forgive sin through the cross of Christ, and bring the peace that comes only through Him. Draw each one to salvation in Jesus, for there is no other name by which we are saved, and draw Your people to show practical mercy to those who have nowhere else to go. Amen.
