Beloved of All
Your prayer expresses a heavy burden for so many kinds of loss, for children lost before birth, for families broken by abandonment and betrayal, for wives and husbands, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters and friends left without a home or a place of shelter, and for neighborhoods marked by disorder and grief. God sees each of these sorrows and He hears the cry for mercy in the name of Jesus Christ.
Scripture gives a sure promise for those who feel forsaken. Though my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me, Psalm 27:10. And, Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne, Isaiah 49:15. Even when human love fails, God's compassion does not fail. He does not forget the child He has created, and He does not turn away the one who has been abandoned.
In the law God provided cities of refuge placed at central points in the land, with clear signs at every crossroad pointing the way to refuge. If someone caused a death by accident, without malice or intent, that person could flee inside the gates and be safe, and receive a fair hearing. As long as he remained inside that city he was protected. If he left its borders he was no longer safe. But that refuge was not for the one who acted with premeditation, anger or malice and lay in wait to take life. For such presumptuous sin there was no refuge in the city itself, and the elders were to hand that person over. This shows both God's mercy for the vulnerable and His seriousness about the shedding of innocent blood.
That provision points to what God has now given us in Jesus Christ. He is our refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, therefore we need not fear even when everything around us is shaken. The Lord of hosts is with us, and the God of Jacob is our refuge, which brings His great power down to our personal need. We flee to Christ for refuge and we are safe as we remain in Him. In Him the guilty who repent can also find mercy and forgiveness, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and His compassion is according to the multitude of His mercies.
We join you in entrusting every innocent child lost through miscarriage or abortion to God's care, asking Him in His mercy to receive them. We pray for parents and families who have caused or suffered such loss, that they would turn to Christ for forgiveness and healing. We pray for all who know abandonment, who have no house, no family and no friend to turn to, that God Himself would be their shelter and that He would draw them into the family of God, where the bond in Christ is deeper than even blood ties. We pray for your neighborhood, for peace where there is disorder, for comfort where there is betrayal, and for provision for those who are alone and in need of refuge and support.
May the Lord show you His nearness as your refuge and strength today, and keep you within the safety of His presence as you continue to bring these broken places before Him in prayer.
