We hear the deep pain and turmoil in your heart as you describe the poisonous words and toxic actions of those around you, your neighbor, a friend, and even family members. The Bible warns us clearly about the power of the tongue, for it can bring life or death, blessing or cursing. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit." The chaos, discord, and confusion you are experiencing are not of God, for He is a God of peace, order, and truth. James 3:5-6 reminds us, "So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! The tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna."
The spreading of rumors, false information, and malicious gossip is not only sinful but deeply destructive. It tears down reputations, sows division, and creates an atmosphere of mistrust and fear. We must call this what it is: a work of the enemy, who comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The devil thrives in chaos and delights in using the tongues of others to spread his poison. But we do not fight against flesh and blood, our battle is against spiritual forces of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12). We must stand firm in the truth of God’s Word and resist the enemy’s schemes with the authority we have in Jesus Christ.
It is concerning that you mention these actions are being done "in the name of Jesus Christ," for the Lord’s name is often taken in vain by those who do not truly know Him or walk in His ways. Jesus warned us in Matthew 7:21-23, "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’ Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’" If these individuals are using the name of Jesus to spread lies, discord, or false prophecies, they are not acting in alignment with His will. The name of Jesus is holy, powerful, and should never be used to justify sin or harm.
We must also address the delay in answered prayer you mention. God is not slow to fulfill His promises, but He moves in His perfect timing (2 Peter 3:9). However, unconfessed sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness in our own hearts can hinder our prayers (Psalm 66:18, Matthew 6:14-15). Have you examined your own heart to ensure there is no root of bitterness or resentment toward those who have wronged you? Forgiveness does not mean what they did was right, it means you are releasing them to God and trusting Him to bring justice. Romans 12:19 says, "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’"
Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer, lifting up this situation to Him with authority and faith:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Name above all names, the One through whom we have access to You. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, for we know that You see the pain, the confusion, and the chaos that has been sown through the tongues of others. Father, Your Word declares that the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity, and we ask You to extinguish every flame of gossip, slander, and falsehood that has been spoken against this dear one and their family. We rebuke the enemy’s work in this situation, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7).
Lord Jesus, we ask You to heal the wounds caused by these words. Mend the broken relationships, restore reputations, and bring clarity where there has been confusion. We declare that no weapon formed against this one shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). Father, we pray for those who have spoken these harmful words, whether out of malice, ignorance, or deception. Soften their hearts, Lord. Open their eyes to see the destruction they have caused, and lead them to repentance. If they are acting in Your name without truly knowing You, we ask that You reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way so they may turn from their sin and follow You in truth.
We also ask You to search the heart of this one who has come before You. Reveal any bitterness, unforgiveness, or resentment that may be hindering their prayers. Give them the strength to forgive, just as You have forgiven them (Colossians 3:13). Lord, we declare that the power of the tongue will no longer have dominion over their life. Instead, let their words be seasoned with grace, truth, and love (Colossians 4:6). Teach them to guard their mouth and their heart, for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45).
Father, we stand on Your promise that where there is strife, You will bring peace; where there is confusion, You will bring clarity; and where there is disorder, You will bring order. We declare that the enemy’s plans will not succeed, for You are greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We bind every spirit of division, gossip, and slander in the name of Jesus and command them to flee. We loose the spirit of unity, love, and truth to reign in this situation.
Lord, we ask for Your protection over this one and their family. Surround them with Your angels, and let Your peace guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give them wisdom in how to respond, or not respond, to these attacks. May they be slow to speak and quick to listen, as Your Word instructs (James 1:19). Father, we also pray for divine opportunities for reconciliation and restoration. Soften hearts, Lord, and open doors for healing conversations where words can be used to build up rather than tear down.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would turn this situation for Your glory. Use this trial to draw this one closer to You, to deepen their faith, and to refine their character. Let them emerge from this storm stronger, wiser, and more dependent on You. We trust in Your goodness, Your justice, and Your perfect timing. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Beloved, we encourage you to stand firm in the truth of God’s Word. Do not be discouraged by the schemes of the enemy, for greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Continue to pray without ceasing, and trust that God is working even when you cannot see it. Surround yourself with godly counsel and fellowship, for iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Remember, the battle is not yours, it is the Lord’s (2 Chronicles 20:15). Walk in forgiveness, guard your heart, and let your words be a reflection of God’s love and truth. He will bring justice and restoration in His perfect way.
