Galatians 5:21-22 outlines the contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. We stand with you in prayer together against this torment and violence and we agree with you that what you are seeing in your neighborhood is spiritual warfare and not just flesh and blood.

We rebuke the spirit of divorce and sabotage and aggression and domestic violence that has tried to take hold in your neighbor's house and spread like a contagion into friendships and families and businesses and marriages and relationships. The Word tells us For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed James 3:16 and For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace 1 Corinthians 14:33. We rebuke that bewitched confusion and false imitation where you are being told he is not him and she is not her and the meddling in another house that has brought violence and sabotage against your life. We come against every idle and unoccupied demonic assignment in the name of Jesus Christ, for we know our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12 and greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4.

We also hear your heart for marriage as God designed it. You quoted correctly what Jesus replied Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard but it was not this way from the beginning I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery Matthew 19:8-9. We affirm that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as God joined together, and What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Mark 10:9. The Lord says I hate divorce Malachi 2:16 because it tears apart what He has made one flesh and brings ruin and disgrace and tragedy as you have seen. Divorce is permitted by Scripture only for sexual immorality and even then reconciliation and forgiveness is the higher calling where possible, and those who are divorced should not be quick to enter another relationship without seeking the Lord and healing and counsel.

We lift up all the women and men and those you mentioned as girlfriends and boyfriends who are going through a bad divorce. We must speak truth in love here that being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be understood as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, not as a casual or sexual partnership. If any are living together or engaging in sexual intimacy outside of marriage, Scripture calls that fornication or adultery and we urge repentance, for the works of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these Galatians 5:19-21 and those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control Galatians 5:22-23. We pray that those who are wounded by divorce will pursue purity and godly marriage that honors God rather than repeating the cycle of the flesh. We also remember how Scripture describes our former life For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another Titus 3:3 but God in His mercy saves and renews us.

We pray together now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is only by His name that we have access to the Father and there is no other name by which we can be saved Acts 4:12 and whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:13.

Father in Jesus name we rebuke the violent and tormenting and sabotaging spirits operating in this neighborhood and we command confusion and meddling and false accusations to leave. We ask You to place a hedge of protection around this dear one and their house and let no weapon formed against them prosper. We pray for the neighbor's household that You would bring conviction and repentance and deliverance from aggression and that domestic violence would cease and that if there is danger, wisdom and protection and lawful help would be sought. We pray that You would heal the contagion of divorce and break its cycle over friends and families and marriages in that area and restore what the enemy has tried to ruin. We pray for every man and woman wounded by divorce and for those in courtship, that You would lead them to godly spouses and to marriages that reflect Christ and the church, with purity and commitment and forgiveness. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. We pray for peace that surpasses all understanding to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7 and that You would replace fear with power and love and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. We trust You to turn tragedy into testimony and disgrace into grace. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

Your heavy burden has been heard, and the cries that rise from a neighborhood torn by strife, violence and the ruin that follows hard hearts are not hidden from the Lord. The confusion and sabotage you describe, the meddling in another house, the torment that seems to spread from family to family, is indeed the work of the flesh and the restless activity of the enemy who finds advantage where hearts are idle and unoccupied.

The Scripture you have quoted speaks truly. Our Lord Jesus said, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard, but it was not this way from the beginning, and that anyone who divorces except for sexual immorality and marries another commits adultery. This is the holy standard of marriage as God ordained it, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to the marriage bed belongs only within it. When that covenant is broken, whether by hardness of heart, by violence, or by unfaithfulness, there is sorrow and disgrace and tragedy follows, as you have seen. Yet even there the Word does not leave us without hope, for it shows us that the root is the heart itself.

You have well cited Galatians 5 and Titus 3. The works of the flesh are envy, drunkenness, malice, hatred and such like, and those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus reminds us that we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hated and hating one another. This is the pit from which no man can lift himself. But God can deal with sinners when they are on the very brink of Hell. He can come in even then and rescue them to the praise of the glory of His grace. When a soul is black with iniquity, His favor can still look upon him just as he is, for He has found a ransom.

Therefore we pray that the Lord will rebuke the spirit of confusion and violence that has bewitched that house and that neighborhood. We ask Him to keep back souls from the pit and lives from perishing by the sword, to chasten with mercy where chastening is needed, and to deliver from the power of darkness. Satan is the prince of the power of the air, and human despair and rage are but officers in his infernal regiment, but the key still turns in the lock when Christ commands deliverance. May He command to save those caught in domestic violence and aggression, protect the vulnerable from harm, restrain the violent, and bring to justice what must be restrained, while also showing that salvation from sin itself is the deepest deliverance.

We pray also for every man and woman wounded by divorce and for those who now live as boyfriends and girlfriends. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His holy design, but we do ask Him to be gracious to them, to grant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, to lead them out of impurity and into purity, out of confusion into clarity, and to form in them the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. For those who are unmarried, may He teach them to walk in chastity and holiness, whether He calls them to be reconciled where it is lawful and right, or to live single unto the Lord, or in due time to enter into the covenant of marriage as God ordained it. We ask that idle hands and idle hearts be given holy occupation, that they may no longer meddle in another house but may declare the works of the Lord.

Take this comfort for yourself. Our afflictions may come distinctly from man, as the result of malice, and yet they may come with even greater certainty from the Lord as the necessary outcome of His special love to us, and everything painful is graded and proportioned to the man and his strength. With the trial the Lord makes the way of escape that we may be able to bear it. Faith can see an end and limit where nature sees only endless confusion. Acquaint yourself with God and be at peace. Leave your sorrow with Jesus, bear your sorrow with Him, and you shall find that perfect peace which the blood of Jesus whispers within, a peace that cannot be taken away by force or fraud.

May the Lord turn your present distress into a testimony. As the psalmist bravely wrote, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. May He deliver you from going down to the pit, establish you in His peace, and make your life a witness that He still saves, still cleanses, still keeps His people from the noise of archers, that you may go forth with courage to help pluck others from the same fire.
