We hear your heart, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we join you in lifting this burden before the Lord. It is heavy to carry the weight of others' negativity, especially when you are trying to encourage them with truth and gratitude. You are right to point them toward God’s blessings, even in difficulty, and to remind them that every breath is a gift from Him. But it is also understandable that their persistent sadness and ingratitude would begin to wear on your own spirit.

Scripture tells us in Proverbs 13:20, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." While we are called to love and bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), we must also guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23) and recognize when constant negativity is draining our own joy and faith. You are not wrong to feel this way, it is a natural response to being surrounded by discouragement.

We must also gently examine whether these individuals are open to truth. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:6, "Don’t give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." This does not mean we withhold love, but it does mean we must be wise in how much we invest in those who continually reject encouragement and choose despair over gratitude.

Let us pray for you and for those you are trying to help:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one who is carrying the weight of others' negativity while trying to point them to Your goodness. Lord, You see their heart, their desire to encourage, their patience, and their love for those around them. But You also see how this burden is beginning to weigh on them. Father, we ask that You would strengthen them with Your joy, which is their strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Fill them afresh with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), so that they may not be overcome by the discouragement around them.

Lord, we also pray for those who are trapped in negativity and sadness. Soften their hearts to receive Your truth. Open their eyes to see the blessings You have given them, even in the midst of trials. Help them to remember that You are their hope and that joy is found in You alone (Psalm 16:11). If there is unrepentant sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness in their hearts, convict them by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to repentance.

Father, give this dear one wisdom in how to minister to these individuals. Show them when to speak, when to listen, and when to step back to protect their own heart. Help them to set healthy boundaries, not out of selfishness, but out of a desire to remain steadfast in You. Surround them with fellow believers who will uplift and encourage them, so they do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9).

We rebuke the spirit of negativity and despair that seeks to steal joy and faith. In the name of Jesus, we command it to flee! We declare that this one will not be overcome by the darkness around them but will shine as a light in this world (Matthew 5:14). Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may overflow with hope and encouragement to others (Romans 15:13).

Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust that You are working in this situation, and we choose to fix our eyes on You, the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord for wisdom in this situation. It may be helpful to spend time in prayer and fasting, asking God to reveal whether there are specific steps He wants you to take, whether that means continuing to minister to these individuals in a different way or trusting Him to bring others alongside them. Remember, you cannot change their hearts; only God can. Your role is to love them, speak truth in love, and trust Him with the outcome.

Also, consider whether you are receiving the encouragement you need. Are you part of a local body of believers where you can be refreshed and strengthened? Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching." You need fellowship just as much as those you are trying to help.

Lastly, we want to gently remind you that your prayers are powerful and effective (James 5:16). Even if you do not see immediate change in those around you, do not grow weary. God is using your faithfulness, and He sees your heart. Keep your eyes on Him, and He will sustain you.

We hear the weight in your words, the way you’ve been steadily pouring out encouragement, hoping it would lift others out of their sadness, only to feel that heaviness settle back onto you. That kind of weariness is real, and it doesn’t mean you’ve failed or your prayers are hollow. It simply means you’re human, and your own heart needs room to breathe.

There’s a kind of holy wisdom in learning when to step back just enough to protect the space within you. Not out of unkindness, but because we can’t give what we no longer carry. When a conversation turns into a steady drain, it’s not unloving to gently redirect or shorten it, then go and pray for them from a quieter place. You are not responsible for fixing their outlook, only God can reshape a heart, but you can guard your own emotional energy so you don’t end up so drained that you dread the very people you want to help.

Maybe the next time you sense that familiar pull, you can ask yourself: “What am I truly able to offer here without losing my own peace right now?” And then give yourself permission to offer only that, even if it’s just a silent prayer and a kind, brief word.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the faithful, aching care of this dear one. Please renew their strength right now, and give them clear, gentle wisdom about when to come close and when to step back. Guard their heart and mind from absorbing burdens that aren’t theirs to carry, and do your deep work in those they’ve been praying for. In your name we ask, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Compassion for souls, the temptation it must resist presses hard upon you now. These people disquiet earnest laborers and make heavy demands upon their compassion. You have told them to be grateful, yet they will not be grateful as hungry men. You see them not in bed, not in a wheelchair, not in a nursing home, and your spirit is crushed because they refuse to see the mercy. I know this weariness. It is the very sight true compassion dreads. It is easier to pull away, to cease going round about them, yet you do well to keep praying, for the whole ruin and spirit of the gospel influences us to compassion. You were debtors, what were you if compassion had not come to your rescue?

Consider Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself. Our Lord was moved with compassion when He saw the multitude. He saw their sickness, their ignorance, their fainting, and compassion, as it were, did eat Him up. He did not send them away, though His disciples thought it the next best thing. He took what little there was, blessed it, and gave it to the people. So now, the little strength you have left is not your own to hoard. The world’s salvation is given instrumentally into your hands. Pull up the sluices of your soul and let your heart pour itself out in rivers of compassion, even when those around you seem like India rubber-souled people who repel every grateful thought. Have pity, or you will become wearied and leave them to their fate. You must have compassion to insure your own perseverance.

You say this negative tide is starting to make you not want to be around them. I point you to a deeper gratitude, one that I have tasted. I feel more grateful to God for the bodily pain I have suffered, and for all the trials I have endured of many sorts, than I do for anything else except the gift of His dear Son. This trial of ingratitude around you is Himself humbling you, feeding you with the hunger that makes mercy sweet. If fed, a man will not be grateful as a hungry man. God is working His miracle in your famishing, showing you that divine compassion, all undeserved and free, is what redeems you from vain conversation. Are you not proving that you are not so base as to be ungrateful to undeserved mercy? Let that gratitude, born in the furnace, be your shield.

As for those who trouble you, remember the preacher’s heart must be like Moffat among the Bechuanas, preferring them to all others as objects of care, even when they seem to have nothing to say back but negativity. Happy are the people who enjoy the high privilege of being sought! You are praying for them, and wherever there is a genuine prayer, God gave it. Wherever there is a seeker, God made him seek. Your prayer is not a discouragement, it is the sign that He is calling them His people. They are just the people in whom the grace of God triumphs over all sin. To you and to them, may God say, “I will call them My people, which were not My people.” When the Lord says this, their sin is put away.

Do not say in the anguish of your spirit that you are lost in this heavy air. He has compassion on you. Do not give up. Consider the dignity of Him who endured, who sits at the right hand of the Father to represent His people, and you are one of them. He holds you. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you have eternal life, and the darkness around you cannot swallow up the light He has kindled in your heart. Go again, with the bread He breaks for you, and give it to the people.
