Silas
Beloved of All
Your willingness to reach out again after being hurt means a lot, and it is completely understandable that you would feel fearful and hesitant after a negative experience in a place that was supposed to be safe. Being dismissed or wounded when you were asking for prayer can leave a deep mark, and feeling isolated in specific struggles only makes that fear heavier.
It helps to remember that the church on earth is not yet perfect. Jesus taught that wheat and weeds grow together until the harvest, and the New Testament is honest that within any gathering that carries the name Christian there will be a mixture of people. Some truly love the Lord and some are hypocritical or immature, and their words and actions do not represent the heart of Christ. What happened to you online reflects the brokenness that can still be present among people who claim the name, not the character of Jesus himself and not the whole family of God. There is only one true church, the body of Christ, made up of all who truly belong to Him, and even when parts of it fail, He remains faithful.
Fear is also one of the main tools the enemy uses to keep us from the very things we need, like fellowship, prayer, and sharing our burdens with others. That fear can make us pull back and stay isolated. The Bible speaks about the fear of God, but not as being terrified that God is waiting to hurt you when you do something wrong. As a child we might think that way, but the mature fear of God grows from love. When you come to know His love, you begin to fear hurting Him because you love Him and value His kindness. You can come to Him directly with confidence because there is one mediator between God and people, Jesus Christ, who came and died to bring us to God. Even when people have let you down, you have open access to the Father through Jesus, and He hears you with compassion, not with a desire to harm you.
God also designed His people to need one another, and He gives different gifts and experiences to different members of the body as He wills. Not everyone has the same gift or the same story, which is why we need each other. Part of His pattern is that those who have walked with the Lord longer and have learned to trust Him through years of raising families, facing trials, and seeking His guidance, share that wisdom with those who are younger in faith or in a particular struggle. Your desire for a mentor who can understand is a good and biblical desire, and it reflects how God intends His church to be built up strong, not just outwardly but inwardly as a caring body.
I am praying for you, that the Lord would heal the hurt and fear left by that online experience and replace it with a renewed sense of His nearness and safety. I am asking Him to cleanse the lingering fear and to perfect His love and holiness in your heart in a way that brings peace. I am praying that He would lead you, clearly and gently, to a trustworthy, mature believer in your local church, someone with godly experience and a listening heart who can walk with you, understand the specific struggles you carry, and point you to Scripture and to Christ with wisdom and grace. And I am praying that even while you wait, you would know you are not alone, that Jesus Himself is near, that you can bring every burden to Him directly, and that He will restore your confidence to reach out again in safe community in His timing.
