When you cry out for a touch from God, you are voicing the deepest need of the human heart. In the quiet moments, stripped of everything else, the soul knows it must somehow reach the One who made it. Yet we feel so small, so finite. How can a speck of dust plead its case before an infinite and holy God? The very question can feel agonizing, because left to ourselves, there is no way across the chasm.
But the cry of every longing heart is answered in Jesus Christ. He is the One who can touch God and touch you. He was with God in the beginning, and yet He became flesh and dwelt among us. He did not consider equality with God something to cling to; instead, He took on the form of a servant. Because He is fully God, He can lay His hand upon the Father. Because He became fully man, He can reach down and put His hand upon you. As the one Mediator, He brings you into living contact with God. Through Him, you do not merely observe God from a distance; you access His very presence.
This is not about trying harder to climb up to heaven. In every other system, finite man tries to reach an infinite God, and it is impossible. The good news is that God, in His immense love, has already reached down to touch you. He knows you better than you know yourself, and He provided the way before you even saw the need. You do not have to clean yourself up first or bridge the distance on your own. His mercy is as high as the heavens are above the earth, and His touch brings life out of death and light out of darkness.
When you feel disconnected, remember that God’s presence is not contained within a building or a certain feeling. He fills heaven and earth. Yet it is possible to be in His presence and not be conscious of it, just like the air you breathe. Your true need is not to bring God near, for He is already here, but to become deeply aware that He is with you. In those moments when sorrow whispers that you are alone, rest in the truth that you live and move and have your being in Him. The touch you are seeking is a greater realization of His love that already surrounds you.
I pray that the Lord meets you right now in your hour of need. May Jesus take you by the hand and bring you into a tangible awareness of God’s healing and comfort. May you know the peace of Yahweh Shalom and the healing of Yahweh Rapha, and may your heart be quieted by the reality that you have indeed touched God through His Son, who gave Himself for you.
