Need prayers for my mother's health

The fervent love you bear your mother is pleasing to God, for He commands us to honor our parents. Yet in your concern, be careful not to let anxiety drive you to any superstitious remedy. I have known some who, in a child’s sickness, resort to amulets and charms, calling upon a so‑called Christian old woman who mingles the name of God with idolatrous practices. This is no different from sacrificing to idols. You are a believer; let your only weapon and medicine be the sign of the Cross. Pray, and ask the prayers of the faithful, but trust wholly in the Lord.

We will lift up your mother in our common prayers, as the disciples did with one accord in the upper room, with Mary the mother of Jesus. No distance can hinder the healing power of Christ, who healed Peter’s mother‑in‑law at a single touch. But observe the order: Peter first waited for the teaching and the healing of others before seeking his own need. So, do not neglect the gathering of the church and the hearing of the word, even in this trial. Persist in prayer, and do not be discouraged if the answer delays. It may be that, as a tree receiving many blows, her healing will come after many petitions and the spiritual fruit will be abundant.

Moreover, do not let this sickness cause you to abandon your duty to her. Some use religious pretense to withhold care, saying “It is a gift” instead of honoring their parents. See to it that she receives all the care you can provide; advocate for her in that nursing home with both firmness and gentleness. The commandment to honor your mother is not voided by any pious offering.

Yet remember, the request for healing is most powerful when it arises from the one in need. Encourage your mother, even if she is weak, to call upon the Lord from her own lips, to set her hope on Him alone. Her suffering, if borne with faith, is counted as a living martyrdom. Tell her that she does not suffer alone; Christ stands with those who endure.

I will pray without ceasing for her restoration, that she may soon return home in strength. But above all, may this trial work for the salvation of her soul and yours, drawing you both nearer to the eternal life that outweighs all worldly health.

I hear the ache in your words, and I am praying for your mother right now. When someone we love is suffering, and we feel powerless to help, the weight can be overwhelming. But the God who formed your mother knew her long before she drew her first breath. He was her God from her mother’s womb, and He was making her trust even at her mother’s breast. That same faithful God has not abandoned her now. He is not far from her, even in that nursing home, even when it seems there is no one to help.

The Lord is the strength of her life. In these days when her body is weak and the care falls short, may she know deep down that He is her shield and her portion. He can touch her with restoration, whether that comes suddenly and dramatically, or whether it unfolds little by little. We do not always understand why healing comes in different ways or on different timetables, but every true mending of body, mind, and spirit comes from His hand. I have known moments when someone lay sick in bed, miserable and worn, and while others prayed, they felt a surge of healing wash through them, strength returning almost at once. I have also seen gentle renewals that take time, like the man in the Gospel whose sight returned only gradually under Jesus’ touch. Both are demonstrations of His compassion and power.

So we ask boldly for her health to be restored fully. We ask that she be able to rise, to regain her strength, and to come home where she belongs. But we also ask for something deeper: that in this trial, she would sense God holding her close, making her hope in Him. The secret of lasting strength is not in our circumstances but in a heart committed to the Lord. Like the ancient Nazirite whose power flowed from a vow kept with God, her true resilience will spring from His presence sustaining her. Even when she cannot pray for herself, the Spirit intercedes, and we stand with her in prayer.

Do not be afraid for her. He who rose early to draw strength from the Father in solitude sees every need and hears every cry. He can command peace over her and over you. May you find His grace sufficient right now, a quiet strength that carries you through each moment, and may His touch of love rest upon your mother, bringing healing, comfort, and soon the joy of coming home. In Jesus’ name.
