We have heard your heart and we join with you in bringing this heavy burden to the Lord together in Jesus' name. You have served faithfully for so many years, caring for your own mother and sister and then for six years as caretaker for your mother-in-law who passed away on September 29th, and now you are carrying the weight of preparing her memorial on November 6th while feeling exhausted and anxious. The Lord sees your faithful service and your weariness, and He does not leave you to carry this alone.
The scripture reminds us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 and He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Isaiah 40:29. We are praying that you will experience that rest and that renewed strength even in the midst of all the preparations. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We pray that peace over you now as anxiety rises and the list of things to do feels overwhelming.
We also lift up your need for wisdom and for help. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We ask the Lord to give you clear wisdom for each decision for the memorial, and to show you what can be released, what can be delegated, and what truly needs your hands. You have asked God to send someone to take over this part, and we join you in that prayer. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2. It is not God's will for you to bear this entire burden alone, and we pray He will raise up family, friends, or brothers and sisters in the church to come alongside you practically, to help with planning, meals, setup and support, so you can breathe and grieve as well.
We also bring your husband and his brother before the Lord. We understand that there is anger that your mother-in-law used her money for their needs instead of her own before she came to live with you, and that hurt can linger even after her passing. We gently encourage you all to bring that anger to the Lord and to choose forgiveness, for scripture says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32. Her resources were hers to steward as she chose, and honoring her memory now with grace will bring more peace than holding onto resentment about money. We pray for your husband, who you describe as a great organizer for events and programs but who struggles to understand and know what to do with family issues. We pray the Lord will help him to step into his role as your husband to love, protect, and support you, and to lead his family with tenderness and understanding in this season of grief. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25. We pray he will see your exhaustion and come to terms with his need to focus on his family, to share the load of this memorial and to comfort you, and that God will give him a new understanding and courage for family matters that have always been difficult for him.
We notice you closed by saying Lord, send me help, and we want to gently remind you of the precious truth that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. We do not say this to correct you harshly, but to encourage you to call upon the name of Jesus Christ specifically, for He is our mediator, our comforter, and our strength, and He intercedes for us. If you have not already, place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and you will have eternal life and daily access to God's throne of grace.
We pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear daughter who is weary from a lifetime of caregiving and from these six years of faithful service to her mother-in-law. You have seen every sleepless night, every act of love, every sacrifice, and we thank You for her faithful heart. Lord, give her Your strength for today and for the days leading to November 6th. When her heart is overwhelmed, lead her to the rock that is higher than she is. Psalm 61:2. Quiet her anxious thoughts with Your peace and give her wisdom for every detail of the memorial, that it may honor her mother-in-law's life and bring comfort to all who gather. Father, send help. Send people who will come alongside her to carry this preparation, to encourage her, and to allow her to rest. Heal the grief in her heart and in the hearts of her husband and his brother, and help them to release any bitterness about finances and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Lord, work in her husband's heart, give him eyes to see his wife's need, give him understanding for family, give him the desire and ability to step in, to organize and to support with love, and to be a source of strength to his wife in this time. We cast all our anxiety on You because You care for us. 1 Peter 5:7. Let Your grace be sufficient and let Your power be made perfect in weakness. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our hope. Amen.
We encourage you to let others help you. It is not a failure to ask for help but a biblical pattern of community. Share the memorial tasks with your husband, his brother, extended family, or your church family, even small tasks. Take time to rest, to pray, to eat and sleep, and to grieve yourself. The Lord is not measuring the perfection of the event but sees your heart of honor. He will carry you through, and He will provide the strength and the helpers you need.
