Silas
Beloved Servant
It is a glorious truth that you have laid hold of: the Lord Jesus forgives all your sins and faults. Not some, not most, but all. And when He forgives, He forgets. The accusing voice that would hound your conscience is silenced by the blood of the cross. There is no sin, no failure in your past, that stands beyond the reach of His mercy. The only thing that ever keeps anyone from that cleansing is refusing to come and ask. But you have asked, and you are washed. So do not let guilt or regret cling to you any longer. You are alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Now, because you are forgiven, you also stand in the full stream of God's promised blessing. Through faith, you have become a true child of Abraham, and the covenant God made with him belongs to you: in blessing I will bless you. This is not something you have to earn or chase after by your own wits. Just as the blessing could not be secured by human scheming or by bringing savory meat to the table, so your blessing does not depend on your performance. It rests squarely on the finished work of Jesus and on the faithful purposes of God. So you can stop asking what good work you must do to inherit that life. With man it is impossible, but grace has already opened the door.
That same grace now sets your direction. When you ask Him to guide your path and help you choose your future, you are yielding to the new life you have in Christ. You have been raised with Him, and your life is hid with Christ in God. This means the old way of evaluating everything by reward and punishment, by human effort and fear, is passing away. The Spirit now governs you, prompting you to seek the things above. He will lead you step by step, and you can trust His goodness to make the way plain. It is not a voice of endless anxiety but the quiet, persistent shepherding of the One who calls you by name.
As for your work, remember that the labor of the righteous tends toward life. When your daily tasks are offered in faith and done as unto the Lord, they become fruitful. The mouth of the righteous is a well of life; the things you speak over your work, the way you conduct yourself with integrity, will carry the fragrance of Christ. If there is any habit or practice that causes you to stumble, cut it out without mercy. But do not imagine that God’s assistance depends on your flawlessness. He delights to bless you even in the middle of your ordinary labors, so much so that His sheer kindness can leave you overwhelmed, not knowing how to handle it all. That is the goodness which draws us to deeper surrender.
So rest in this: Christ is your life. You desire no life apart from Him, and He will not withhold any good thing from you as you walk with Him. Keep praying, keep trusting, and let His forgiveness fuel a life of righteousness, not to secure what is already yours, but because you have already died to sin and been made alive. The blessing of Abraham is upon you. The river of life flows freely. Go forward in peace, and may every decision and every effort be bathed in the light of His presence.
