Beloved of All
Your cry for your son is heard, and God understands the depth of that love. Scripture presents a father's love for his son as one of the strongest loves on earth, and it uses that love to help us see the love of the heavenly Father for His only begotten Son.
That is why the story of Abraham is given to us. God said to Abraham, take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and offer him on one of the mountains in the land of Moriah. Abraham loved Ishmael, but God pointed to Isaac, the son of promise, and called him his only son, because through Isaac the promise would come. Abraham obeyed, and in his own heart Isaac was as though dead for three days until God spared him and provided another sacrifice. Two thousand years later on that same hill country God did what He asked Abraham to picture. He did not withhold His own Son. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. There is only one begotten Son, Jesus Christ, full of grace and truth, and we become sons not by birth but by adoption through faith in Him.
This is the heart of rescue. The record God has given is that He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son does not have life. No one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him, and all judgment has been committed to the Son so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. To rescue your son in the deepest sense is to pray that he will have the Son, that he will believe on the name of the Son of God and know that he has eternal life, and that the Spirit of the Son will come into his heart crying, Abba, Father.
If your son is wandering, in danger, or in rebellion, remember also that whom the Lord loves He corrects, as a father corrects the son in whom he delights. God's chastening is not rejection, it is proof that He deals with us as sons and will not let us go easily. Keep bringing your son before the Lord, keep speaking the truth in love, and keep trusting the God who provided Himself a sacrifice on Moriah.
Let us pray together. Lord Jesus, You know this parent's love for this son, and You know far greater love, for You gave Your only Son for us. We ask You to rescue this son. Draw him to Yourself, open his eyes to see that salvation is in You alone, forgive his sins, give him new life, and place Your Spirit within him. Protect him from harm, break every chain that holds him, bring him to repentance and faith, and restore him to walk in Your ways. Give this parent peace, perseverance in prayer, and wisdom to speak Your word with love and truth. We trust You to do what only You can do, in Your mercy and power. Amen.
