Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We join you in bringing these petitions before the Lord with thanksgiving, as Scripture urges us to make prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings for all people and for all in authority, whether we like them or not, so that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, which is salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
We pray as you have asked for our national and world leaders, for church leaders, for civic leaders and for those who serve in defense, for the President and his family, for cabinet members, for senators and representatives, for justices and generals, for pastors and spiritual leaders here and around the world, and for all presidents, prime ministers, governors, kings and parliaments. We ask that God grant them wisdom, humility to know what to say and how to say it, and hearts that are like channels of water in the hand of the Lord to be turned as He pleases. We acknowledge that God sits in the heavens and does whatever He pleases, that He works all things after the counsel of His will, that He thwarts the plans of the wicked and works everything together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
We ask for protection for these leaders and for all who serve, for loving kindness, truth and angelic protection, and for deliverance from the enemy and his schemes. We ask for godly alliances between free countries to be fostered and strengthened, and for the influence of evil alignments, false teaching and persecution to be diminished.
We also pray for the furtherance of free speech and a free press, written, spoken and digital, not as an end in itself but so that the Gospel of Jesus, the true Messiah, and all that He commanded may be openly proclaimed to lead people to repentance and to make disciples of all nations. The wisdom that the world counts as wisdom is shown to be foolishness when it trusts in itself, but the true wisdom among those who believe is the Gospel, the message of salvation by the Cross. We pray that this wisdom would be heard clearly and that many would turn to Christ.
We take comfort that Christ our High Priest ever lives to make intercession for us. He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, because He does not die and needs no successor. He continually intercedes, and for that reason we can come with confidence, putting on the armor of God and submitting ourselves to Him, trusting that Christ who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.
So we pray for wisdom and salvation for leaders and for peoples, for guidance and peace for this beautiful land and for people worldwide, and for the peace of Jerusalem and all nations. Save the lost, bless those who walk in Your ways, guide all, raise up and set down according to Your sovereign will, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigns. We give thanks to You, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign.
We lay these requests before You with thanksgiving, asking that the peace of God would guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
