Disciple of Prayer
My son has just told his wife that he doesn’t want any contact with me or his father. I am very upset about this as he hasn’t given a reason for this. Please pray for me.

We are deeply grieved to hear of the pain and confusion you are experiencing as a result of your son’s sudden decision to cut off contact with you and his father. This is a heavy burden to carry, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s comfort, wisdom, and intervention in this situation. The silence and lack of explanation only add to the heartache, but we know that God sees your tears and hears your cries. Let us turn to Him together in prayer and seek His will for healing and restoration.

Father in Heaven, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this mother who is enduring the pain of estrangement from her son. Lord, You are the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts those who mourn. We ask that You would pour out Your peace upon her, a peace that surpasses all understanding, to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We pray for her son, that Your Holy Spirit would work powerfully in his life, softening his heart and opening his eyes to the truth. Father, we ask that You would remove any lies, bitterness, or unforgiveness that may have taken root in his heart, and replace them with Your love and grace. Restore this family, Lord, according to Your perfect will, and let Your name be glorified in the process. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You. Amen.

The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Even in this painful season, God is near to you, and He is working even when we cannot see it. We also hold fast to the promise in Jeremiah 31:16-17, "Thus says the Lord: ‘Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded,’ says the Lord, ‘and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future,’ says the Lord, ‘that your children shall come back to their own border.’" Though the situation feels hopeless now, we trust that God is able to turn hearts and bring restoration.

We must also address the reality that estrangement within a family is not God’s design. The Bible calls us to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12) and to pursue reconciliation and peace (Matthew 5:23-24). While we do not know the reasons behind your son’s decision, we encourage you to examine your own heart as well. Have there been any words, actions, or unresolved conflicts that may have contributed to this separation? If so, we urge you to seek forgiveness and extend grace, just as Christ has forgiven us. However, if this estrangement is unjust and without biblical cause, we must rebuke the spirit of division and disobedience in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).

It is also important to surrender this situation to the Lord and trust in His timing. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." While it is natural to want answers and resolution immediately, God’s ways are higher than ours, and His timing is perfect. We encourage you to continue praying for your son daily, not just for restoration, but for his spiritual well-being. Pray that he would come to know the Lord more deeply, that he would be surrounded by godly influences, and that he would walk in the truth of God’s Word.

In the meantime, we urge you to guard your heart against bitterness and resentment. Hebrews 12:15 warns, "Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled." Bitterness will only harm you and hinder your relationship with the Lord. Instead, choose to forgive your son, even if he does not ask for it, and release him into God’s hands. This does not mean you condone his actions, but it means you are trusting God to handle the situation in His way and His time.

We also want to gently remind you of the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we have access to the Father, and it is only through faith in Him that we can be reconciled to God. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is a free gift, and it is the foundation upon which we build our lives and our hope.

Lastly, we encourage you to seek support from your local church or a trusted Christian community. You do not have to walk through this alone. Galatians 6:2 tells us, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Allow others to come alongside you in prayer, encouragement, and practical support. God often uses His people to bring comfort and healing in times of trial.

We will continue to stand in the gap for you and your family, believing that God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). May the Lord bless you with His peace, strengthen you with His power, and draw your son back to Himself and to you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We're so sorry for what you're carrying right now. When your son cuts off contact without any explanation, the silence itself can feel deafening. It leaves you in a space where hurt, confusion, and even shame swirl together, and that's genuinely hard to sit with. Please know you're not alone in this.

When someone we love pulls away without a reason, there's often a deep gap between what we long for and the way things are. That gap can easily fill with resentment or self-doubt if we aren't careful. The most important thing you can do right now is guard your own heart. That doesn't mean pretending it doesn't ache, it means refusing to let bitterness take root while you wait. Deciding, even in small, quiet moments, to release him into God's hands can gradually loosen the grip of the hurt.

Practically, don't isolate yourself. Grief like this needs a caring witness. Lean into a trusted friend, a small group, or your pastor. Let them pray with you and simply be present. If you sense it's right, you might also consider sending a brief, low-pressure note to your son, something like, "We love you and we're here whenever you're ready." That keeps the door open without demanding a response, and leaves the rest between him and God.

Please let us pray with you now:

Father, we lift up this mother to You. You see her pain and the unanswered questions. Wrap Your peace around her like a shield. Guard her heart from bitterness and fill the empty spaces with Your comfort. In Your time, soften her son's heart and heal what's broken in their relationship. Until then, help her rest in Your faithful love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

There is a peculiar anguish in a blow that lands without a word, a wound where no reason is given. Your couch is watered with your tears and your bread made bitter with your grief. Well do you compare your sorrow to the pain of broken bones. When a child, your own flesh and bone as it were, severs the bond and builds a wall of silence, it is a fracture that reduces the entire soul to a palpitating mass of pain. You cry out from the dust, and the silence from the other side of that broken hedge echoes back with a hollow ache.

But take every shattered fragment to the Healer of broken hearts. Best of all, God has chosen One whose own heart was broken. It is conclusively proven that Jesus died of a broken heart. He knows the grief of being cut off without cause, of being despised and rejected. He will not break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax. Let your soul leave everything with Him by faith, being made as a weaned child. The weaning child frets with strong desires upon him, but the weaned child is content, his desires lie still. And when sufficient grace has come, the child of God feels no desperate clutching for that which once delighted, but rests quietly upon the Lord alone.

This is not a call to grow callous or indifferent. No, no. David did not pray that his bones might simply grow quiet, but that the bones which God had broken might rejoice. It is those who cost the Lord so much in whom His infinite grace will be displayed. Your present sorrow is the very field where a harvest of joy may yet spring up. Go to your God. Wait upon Him alone, even as you would hear your child if he asked bread of you. He does not dishonor Himself when He binds up our broken hearts. The Lord grant that the wall which has been broken down in your family may yet be repaired, not by your own striving, but by the hand of the One who breaks, and heals if it be, to make you whole.

My heart breaks with you, for such a severing of natural affection is a deep wound. But lift your eyes to Him who was despised and rejected, who suffered even from His own, that by His passion we might find comfort in every sorrow. Do you not see what the Gospel declares? God on earth, man in Heaven, reconciliation where there was enmity, sins purged through the Son, and adoption into His family. Your true kinship is not of blood alone but of the Spirit. What does the Apostle teach? That the children of Abraham are those who walk by faith, not those who merely share his flesh. If your son has broken off fellowship, do not let that destroy your peace; rather, cling to the relationship that cannot be severed, your union with Christ.

Examine your conscience before God. If it is pure, if you have done nothing to provoke this estrangement, then let that testimony be your glorying, even in pain. But even the most innocent must beware of pride; cast your hope wholly on Him. Pray fervently for your son, that the Lord would grant him a spirit of repentance and remembrance of his duty. Yet do not make your comfort depend on his return. Our Father in heaven is gentle to the unthankful and evil; imitate that longsuffering patience. Perhaps this trial is allowed so that you may learn to love more perfectly, to bear wrongs without resentment, to become more fully a child of God through suffering.

Grieve, for nature demands it. But do not despair. He who provided the Lamb for Isaac will provide a path through this wilderness. Trust His timing. In the meanwhile, pour out your tears to Him, and let your own life be blameless and full of meekness. The branches may be broken off for a season, but the root is holy and the power of the Cross can graft them in again.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
