We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your son and this relationship that weighs so heavily on him. Father God, we know that Your design for marriage is sacred—a covenant between a man and a woman, built on love, respect, and mutual submission, as You have ordained in Your Word. *"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church... Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it"* (Ephesians 5:22, 25 WEB). This relationship, as it stands, does not reflect Your holy design, and we must bring this before You with both truth and compassion.
Lord, we see the pain in your son’s heart—his desire to love, to cherish, and to commit, yet he is met with coldness, blame, and distrust. It grieves us to see how this young woman treats him, for love is not rude, does not seek its own, is not provoked, and thinks no evil (1 Corinthians 13:5 WEB). She has removed the engagement ring, a symbol of covenant, and yet he clings to hope. Father, we ask that You open his eyes to the reality before him. *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). If this relationship is not built on Your foundation, it will only bring heartache.
We must also address the sin that may be present here. If they are living together or engaging in intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, and it grieves Your heart. *"Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). We rebuke any ungodly soul ties that have formed and ask that You break them in Jesus’ name. Your son must walk in purity, for his own sake and for Your glory.
Lord, we pray for this young woman—not with condemnation, but with hope for repentance. Soften her heart, Father. Show her the error of her ways, that she may see the goodness in your son and the destructive patterns in her own behavior. *"A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor"* (Proverbs 29:23 WEB). If she is unwilling to change, we ask that You remove her from his life, for his protection and Your purpose.
Most of all, we pray for your son’s healing. Comfort him, Lord, and remind him of his worth in You. *"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit"* (Psalm 34:18 WEB). Help him to release this relationship into Your hands, trusting that You have a godly spouse for him if marriage is Your will. Strengthen his faith, that he may not lean on his own understanding but trust in You with all his heart (Proverbs 3:5 WEB).
We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17 WEB) and that You will restore to him the years the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25 WEB). May he find his identity in Christ alone, not in the approval of another. We pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to the Father. Amen.
