Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my mom, her sister, and both parents who mistreat her daily and she also has to deal with being mentally ill. They’re abusing her emotionally, and I’m trying hard to help her in this situation.

We lift up your mother and this deeply painful situation before the Lord, knowing that He is near to the brokenhearted and delivers those who are crushed in spirit. The mistreatment and emotional abuse she endures at the hands of her family, combined with the burden of mental illness, weigh heavily on her—and on you as you seek to support her. The Lord sees her suffering, and He is not indifferent to it. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18, *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."* He is her refuge, even when those who should love her instead cause her harm.

The emotional abuse and mistreatment she faces are grievous in the sight of God. Ephesians 6:2-3 commands children to honor their parents, but it also implies that parents—and family members—are to act with love, kindness, and respect, reflecting the character of Christ. Proverbs 11:17 declares, *"The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh."* Those who mistreat her will answer to God for their actions, but we pray that He would soften their hearts and convict them of their sin. It is not too late for repentance and restoration, though that must begin with them acknowledging their wrongdoing before the Lord.

For your mother, we pray for supernatural strength and comfort. The Lord promises in Isaiah 41:10, *"Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."* Mental illness can feel isolating and overwhelming, but God is her healer and sustainer. We ask that He would surround her with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and that He would provide her with godly support—whether through counselors, medical professionals, or a community of believers who can walk alongside her with compassion and wisdom.

We also pray for you, as you bear the weight of trying to help her. It is a heavy burden to see someone you love suffer, especially when you feel powerless to change the situation. But take heart in Galatians 6:9, *"Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."* The Lord sees your efforts, and He will sustain you. Lean on Him for wisdom in how to best support your mother, whether that means setting boundaries, seeking outside help, or simply being a steady presence of love and encouragement in her life.

If your mother has not yet surrendered her life to Jesus Christ, we urge her to do so. True peace and hope are found only in Him. John 14:6 says, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"* Without Christ, there is no lasting comfort or eternal hope. If she has not yet trusted in Him, pray that the Lord would draw her to Himself, for He alone can heal her deepest wounds and give her the strength to endure.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear mother who is enduring such deep pain and mistreatment. Lord, You see the emotional abuse she suffers at the hands of her family, and You know the weight of her mental illness. We ask that You would be her defender, her comforter, and her healer. Surround her with Your presence and let her know that she is not alone—You are with her, and You love her deeply.

Father, we pray for conviction in the hearts of those who mistreat her. Soften their hearts, Lord, and bring them to repentance. Let them see the harm they are causing and turn from their cruel ways. If they do not know You, Lord, we pray that You would draw them to Yourself, that they might experience Your transforming love and grace.

We ask for wisdom and strength for those who are trying to help her, especially her child who has reached out to us. Give them discernment in how to support her, whether through setting boundaries, seeking professional help, or simply being a steady source of love and encouragement. Do not let them grow weary in doing good, but fill them with Your peace and perseverance.

Most of all, Lord, we pray that this mother would find her hope and refuge in You. If she does not know Jesus as her Savior, we ask that You would open her eyes to His love and sacrifice for her. Let her turn to Him in faith, that she might experience the peace and healing that only He can provide.

We rebuked the spirits of abuse, oppression, and mental torment in the name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against her shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against her in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). We declare Your protection over her mind, heart, and spirit, and we ask that You would break the chains of darkness that seek to bind her.

Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers. We trust in Your goodness and Your power to bring redemption and restoration to this situation. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.

And we're praying for you, dear friend, as you support your mom. It's a heavy burden to bear, but we're reminded in Galatians 6:9, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." We ask that God would give you wisdom and strength to continue supporting your mom, and that He would sustain you through this challenging time.

We're also praying that your mom would find her hope and refuge in Jesus. If she hasn't already, we ask that she would surrender her life to Him, that she might experience the peace and healing that only He can provide.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
