Disciple of Prayer
My brother tried to kill himself: Please pray for my teenage brother. He has been struggling with depression and recently attempted suicide. He didn't manage to do any serious physical damage to himself, but he is in the teen psychiatric ward at the hospital. He wants to go home but they aren't sure if he's ready. The insurance isn't going to cover any more time in the in-patient program, so he will have to come home before he's actually ready. Please pray that he will recognize that he has friends and possibly make new friends, and that none of his friends will judge him. Please pray for him regarding faith, as his scientist brain is having trouble with the idea of God. Please pray for my family as well, because everyone has been affected by this. He does not want to return to his old school, and my mom doesn't think he will be ready even after the out-patient treatment is over. My parents hate the idea of sending him away, but they are looking into boarding schools for kids who are struggling with depression. Please pray that God will guide them in the right direction about schools, and that if a boarding school is the right choice that they will find one that is affordable. Finally, please pray for my sister (younger than my brother) as this has terrified her (she was home when it happened) and is struggling with the idea that her brother could have died. She tried cutting as a response to this, so please pray that she'll overcome this hurdle as well. Thank you for the prayers! It means a lot.
Update: Since this post, my brother has not attempted suicide again but he has cut several times and was back in the in-patient program once. He is still having trouble with friendships and faith is still an issue for him. He is participating in school a little more (he's gone on field trips and to a dance but the dance was a recommendation from his therapist and he hated it) but he's still in the out-patient program all school day, so he isn't actually back yet. My parents have been told that if he can't get cutting under control, he may need to go to a residential treatment place for a month. Insurance would cover this, and it might be a great help to him. My sister is doing a lot better. She has made friends at school and hasn't tried cutting again. Thank you to everyone who has prayed and everyone who will continue to pray for my family. I wish I could be with them right now, but I'm at a sort-of boarding school thing (I'm in high school) in a different state and my parents already paid for it, not to mention that it's a great school.
